Another joiner to the Xperia P gang. Was targetting an AP set of the Xperia U ( came with the livesound headset) but ended up with P as i wanted the bigger screen.

xperia P can upgrade to andriod 4.1 jellybean or icecream version?.

can use it for 3G video call?

should i choose xperia P or S?

how is xperia P phone so far?

or samsung S2 is better?

any idea of all phone?samsung S2, xperia p or xperia S?which 1 to choose?in terms of quality, design and etc
*
so far no upgrades for Xperia P to ICS or JellyBean.

However, it runs perfectly smooth and fine on GB imho. Had xperia ray running on ICS but had lots of issues (fc, battery drain, sluggish).

Have not tried 3G video call - think it can only do those skype/gtalk ones

P or S , is purely up to u imho. I prefered the 4 inch screen compared to the 4.3 and the button layout of the P better.

So far the phone has been great. Superb display, great camera. The weight and size are just nice for me ( i have average sized hands). only con i can think of atm is in comparison to the Ray, the audio quality isn't so good ( in terms of volume).

call quality however is superior, and i have not had call drops and/or hissing which i did with the ray.

in comparison to SGS2, i think now you can only find the G version, which as attested by 3 of my colleagues have the same similar problems :
- camera crashes , esp front camera
- usb connection doesn't detect phone all the time.
- phone occasionally crashes, requires restart.

these issues were on GB, on ICS they faced the same problem, with additional battery drain issue.

Hi guys, I'm interested with Xperia P for its design, camera, and white magic display, but somehow I'm worried about the loudness level of the loudspeaker for this phone as what I've seen in GSM arena its rated Below average score. I don't want to own another low volume phone again as my current phone is Vivaz which I always missed a call due to the ringing volume is too low...

Any Xperia P User kindly tell me how is the ringing volume for this phone?
*
comparing the Xperia P and Xperia Ray, for me the Ray seems to have a louder sound. However, the P itself is already quite loud.

Important is to choose a proper ring tone so you can hear it clearly.

b4 update the phone is snappy in everything. after update there is visible lag when switching home screen, like _ 0.5 sec lag. and not everytime animation will run smooth.
contact took 1 sec to appear
some apps also took longer to respond
*
hmm.. my update was good. everything snappy and smooth. Then again i tend to switch off the animation effects lar.

I'm not too sure about the restart... Just a suggestion from Sony forumer  that Android takes some time to optimize Battery...
Here for your references.
Sony forum about battery life
*
what i did was basically full charge, then let it drain to 0% then full single charge to 100% again for about 3 times.

Seems does improve batt life. buy may just be placebo effect

guys i need some advice here...

planning to get XP,but since my budget quite tight,i only afford to get AP set...

any XP user here bought AP instead ORI set?are they giving you the same box content as ORI set?with original usb charging adapter, usb cable and headphone or cap ayam stuff?

what about mini hdmi cable and nfc tags?

thanks..
*
mine is AP set. Taiwan firmware.

box contents are ori greenheart charger, ori usb cable, in ear headphones ( ori ones). No hdmi cable and no nfc tag.

But to be safe, ask them to open up the box for you to check.

I've seen a xperia U model that was provided with the livesound headset worth RM200+ which is a good bargain.

Hey guys, after ICS update, did you guys try the Extended Standby mode? Just simply go Settings – Power Management – Activate Extended Standby Mode. I heard this helps improve battery life even thou it sounds more like a function that disable data after 15 minutes...
Extended Standby Mode
*
Im using SmartConnect instead. It was previously known as LiveWare Manager.

basically, it will use specified times to enable/disable settings.

e.g. 6am enable wifi, off data.
6pm, off wifi, enable data.

Does help to extend the battery life.

in other words "don't buy this phone"???

i think need to evaluate it in terms of a a few areas:

Pros:
Superb display. WhiteMagic is really bright.
Design is unique.
Screen is wonderful. esp with BraviaEngine+whitemagic. Your movies/pictures look really stunning.
Good UI. Sony's timescape UI is simple, fast and easy to use.

Cons:
As always, ppl say battery life. This however, is mitigated by the fact that Xperia P has fastcharge. Just plug in for 10mins can achieve 80% charge.

16gb memory. This is split into 2gb system memory, 2gb apps memory. So means you have 12 gb for photos, music, etc etc.
IMHO, this is sufficient. Wouldn't want to cram my phone with up to 64gb of stuff and slow it down completely. Worse, if lose the phone, lose 64 gb of pictures, music etc too..
Mitigation: Backup ur stuff regularly! and seriously, will u actually look through/listen to that much music/movie/photo on a weekly basis? a bit of housekeeping goes a long way.

Speaker crackling when xloud is on and volume on full. Known issue.. but then every speaker u put to full volume is sure to crack. So pls don't put all the way to full. Maybe a notch down from full is sufficient.

Some have complained that the whitemagic screen is the biggest battery drain. Bear in mind on full settings, whitemagic is approx 4 times brighter than a SGS2 on full setting..
So, unless absolutely necessary.. don't put ur brightness so high. 1/4 on the Xperia P will alredy equal to 100% on most other phones.

Note: These are my personal opinions.

went to Sony Centre. Wanted to get the Livesound headset for the phone.

Tested the unit ( apparently it was the SMARTheadset unit cos it was from the Xperia S) it worked.

however, upon opening the packaging, found out it cannot be used!!

luckily, the ppl at the store were kind enough to assist and even allow me to exchange for something else ( Xba-1).

So guys, be VERY CAREFUL!! Live headset sold in the shops are not compatible.(u will see a sony ericsson logo). it must be Smart Headset.

besides that have u guys tried with the Extended Standby mode before? How long can it last?
Let's say the usage will be roughly around:
10sms/day
30minutes of Call a day
30minutes of wifi connect
10minutes of photo snapping
30minutes gaming
1 hour of song listening

I just want a preparation to accept the fact of the battery life on my usage...
*
Sorry man. never tested that cos i need my data on at all times.

Hi everyone..

I want to buy xperia p..Does it come with mini hdmi cable and nfc tags..? Or have to buy it seperately..?

And I see some forumer sell with the Livesound headset..Does it really work with XP..?

I read at the sony website that the livesound only work with SE smartphone..Not Sony smartphone..It say only Smart headset can work with Sony smartphone..
*
ori set comes with 2 tags if im not mistaken. don't know about hdmi cable.

AP set doesn't come with nfc tags/cable. You can get them from sony centre. think 4 tags around rm75

livesound headset DOES NOT WORK WITH XPERIA P[cool.gif

smart headset works with xperia S and P. Doesnt work with U as tested by our bro nordingh.

i think if its bundled with XP then it should be with the Smart Headset not Livesound. Note tho that they look exactly the same.

This question has been in my mind for quite some time as well... So those phone seller usually will have the cutter to cut my Sim  to micro sim?

Added on September 23, 2012, 11:20 am
What difference between those headset? got different function? Sound Quality??
Besides that i don't understand what u mean by LiveSound is not supported with XP... is it plugged in 3.5mm jack but no sound? I got no idea about this...  sweat.gif
*
difference is :

Livesound Headset works with Sony Ericsson phones ( e.g. Xperia Ray, Xperia Arc)

Smart Headset works with Sony phones ( Xperia S, Xperia P).

what that means is that if u plug in the unsupported version, nothing will work at all ( no sound, no mic ) and even prompts you a message "headset not supported".

This is Smartheadset:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/produc.../smart-headset/
Perfect Partners: Xperia S, Xperia P, Xperia Sola , Xperia U ( although one of the guys here tested it was not working)

this is Livesound:

XBA-1 ? O.O The sale man is very generous! The Balanced Armature will give you true audiophile experience! I'm now thinking of investing another pair of Sony EX310 Monitor which is equally priced but utilized dynamic drivers instead.  rclxms.gif
*
to be exact, it's XBA-1 VP (RM229) http://www.sony.com.my/product/xba-1vp

it's actually cheaper than the livesound (RM245) so top up other things.

oooh..310 looks nice too! Tbh the included one with Xperia P is quite good - only complaint was it tangles often hence wanted to find a flat cable type.

I own a pair of XBA-S65 which is a sport type. Wanted to get the XBA-VP but couldn't find any since it was just launched.

EX310 is totally different from XBA-1/ip/vp from the aspect of drivers, being dynamic driven and balanced armature driven respectively. If you want crystal clarity, details, good treble and good layering, go for XBA series; if you want punchy and deep bass then go for EX series.  rclxms.gif

But if I recall correctly, only XBA-1 feature a mic-equipped variant which is the XBA-1VP you own. So if you want audiophile quality sound but don't want to lose the function to talk with headphones, XBA-1VP is the only choice.

Sony Xperia's sounds aren't as good as their professional line of headphones, except for MW600 & Smart Headset Pro. :smile.gif
*
cool! learn something new. My usual listening to music headset is a senheiser px100 II. so yea, i guess you could say i prefer the bassy/punchy types. smile.gif will take note of dynamic driven next time im looking for headphones.

with normal 3.5mm headphone/earphone sure will work....  just need to be careful when buying the one with mic.

there is 3 type of 3.5mm jack for stereo phone (should be more if mention mono).

user posted image

new Sony Xperia (2012) line phones use CTIA 3.5mm standard (basically same as Apple's iPhone)

if want to use omtp in ctia jack or vice versa... get the converter like LU2

i do find however that some that's listed as iPhone compatible, doesn't really work with Xperia P. Tried out the skullcandy ink'd 2 which is iphone compatible.

However, mic doesn't work, buttons don't work. Got sound tho..

btw as well, these ones im referring to are in-ear headphones with mic. Noted the beyerdynamic you mentioned doesn't have a mic so should not have these type of issues.

Since u alr saved up for it.. i'd say GO FOR IT! thumbup.gif
