To be honest laptop is not for gaming. I suggest you to get a gaming desktop instead.

Lets say if you really need the mobility and the portability of having a laptop, and you really want to buy a laptop, you can consider this one:

Asus N55Sf-S1515v [black], i5-2450M + Nvidia GT555m (2GB) + 1920x1080@2899[Bang & Olufsen]; 750GB (7200rpm), USB3.0, Sonic Master subwoofer

HP dv6-6c19TX, i7-2670QM + AMD HD7690M XT@RM3099[Beats], 4GB, 750GB (5400rpm)

HP Dv6-6114TX, i7-2630QM + AMD HD6770M + BluRay@RM3799 [Beats][2.63kg], [4GB RAM] Beats headphones, HP optical mouse, HP 500GB external HDD

For the Asus laptop, it comes with Full HD 1920x1080 screen. But you can't run Battlefield 3 on that Full HD 1080p resolution. Even with the lowest settings, it will lag. The Nvidia GT555M can only support up to 1366x768 at low medium settings, to get 30++ fps..

Thats why laptop is not really awesome for gaming.

If you want to get a desktop with RM3000 budget, you can easily play Battlefield 3 at any settings with a smooth gameplay without having garbage looks.

Really? I would think for gaming it would be :

1. Sager (comes with 580M/ 6990M card)
2. MSI GT series (570M card)
3. Alienware (SLI 580M cards)
4. Asus G series. (560M cards)

This are the top 4 gaming laptops in the market. If 3K then i suggest keep a bit more and get a better desktop

If you don't mind playing games on low then there's lots of option. If you're thinking battlefield 3 then it's going to be a problem though. I'm using an MSI GT683 with 560M card and playing 1376 x 768 low setting. Have to play this setting for smooth gameplay. If lower cards, I'm not sure if they can handle the graphics. Maybe possible to play at 1376 but with lag.

GTX560M is equivalent to a desktop GTS450, slower by 2% than GTS450. Shud be able to play at high settings at 1366x768? whats ur frame rate when running at high settings?

The laptop MSI GT683 is around RM5000 - RM6000? quite expensive...can build crossfire HD7970 or even GTX580SLi

Yep. My desktop is SLI580. For the lappy, according to a lot of sites, it can run but the framerate drops to 20+ if ur playing on 64 conquest map.. it can only cope at medium max. I have a built in turbo overclock
button on my laptop when my framerate drops but still, it doesn't take too well on high setting. The heat factor on laptop will be the next reason why framerate's drop as well.

uhm,

BF3 resource hunger
for desktop you already need:
at least Quad Cores (2.0ghz above)
at least 4GB or above
at least GTX 560 (for low->medium and smooth enough gameplay)
these spec consider as the minimum requirement for desktop

so for laptops, mobile versions spec, you need much stronger than these
mostly high end laptops that gonna cost you at least rm 4k above

Why do you need a gaming laptop when you have a gaming desktop already? Like you going to 'game' whenever you go right?

Anyways TS, save the hassle and just get a gaming desktop. Laptop for gaming generally is a waste of money (speaking based from my previous experience)

Thumbs up for that.

Look at how Battlefield 3 runs on Alienware M11x, Alienware M14x, with Nvidia GT540M and Nvidia GT555M respectively. You can't really run Battlefield 3 on high settings, probably low settings to get minimum fps. Same goes to the overpriced peace of shit Razer Blade laptop with Nvidia GT555M.

What about M18x, MSI, Sager, Asus Republic of Gamer? I know these laptops either support GTX560M, GTX460M, GTX570M, GTX580M, HD6990M, HD5870M, but by the end of this year, try running the upcoming games at ultra settings. They will suffer. EXcept if these laptops are MXM GPU powered, then u can upgrade the graphics card, going to cost a lot.

Desktop for the win, i have experience with real gaming laptops also (Asus Lamborghini GTX560M)

I think in the end of the day, it's a personal choice. Some ppl would like to have a laptop for gaming some prefer desktop. We could argue all day about it but it's still boils down to a person having that extra $$$ and being outdoors most of the time. I have a good desktop setup but I'm out most of the time so I got a gaming laptop so that I could bring it to work with me but it's not all gaming on a gaming laptop, It's powerful enough to handle a lot of things especially media and design. Ppl may argue that you could get a cheaper laptop but in the end of the day, It's all about working and earning that $$$ and owning a gaming laptop and bringing it with you. Gaming laptops are a beauty. Yep. You can't upgrade most of it but hell, owning one is exeptionally satisfying.

Yes, it's all about personal preference and hence i justified that by saying 'based from my previous experience'. I owned Asus G1s before (Link Here) where i bought it back in late 2006 and costs me AUD 3500 back then.

Wanted to try mobile gaming and totally regretted it. One thing for sure i need a laptop for its mobility and not for its heaviness and i had the same thinking as you bring it to work and game at the same time though that didnt turn out pretty well. Heavy, battery lasted max 3 hours.

Yes we can argue all day all night throughout the year cause at the end of the day it's your money from your own hard work and your own personal preference. Im just saying having owned one before was a mistake and will never get one again. I just don't believe in 'mobile gaming' (my own humble opinion)

So TS, decide for yourself after all its your money

Guys thx for all the informative replies. appreciate to the max !!
I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15 right now. anyone can give sone feedback on it ? Saw some videos on youtube and am impressed .my budget has been raised to 3-3.5k btw. And will the i5 processor on it lose out to the i7 model by a huge margin ? Because if it doesnt make a huge difference to gaming i could save around 300 ringgit.
