I had the opportunity to work in Bangkok for 1 year and I totally loved it. Yes you do need a work permit. Learning their local language will certainly help alot. Thais are impress with foreigners who made the effort to learn their local language. You will get to enjoy nice local street food and good bargains. Maybe one day I will go back there to work.
