I work in Bangkok on & off

What do you have in hand to discuss?

Unless you have a specific question, there is no way I can tell you from A to Z from my side

As a foreigner in Thailand you can be like a god to them.

I'm Thai but working here in Malaysia before that I used to work in the Duty Free Shop in our International Airport, Suvannabhumi.

Working environment among all Thai is quite stress for me because of the senior-junior thing. If you are younger and get higher position -you'll face all sarcastic everyday and as well gossip. sad.gif

I prefer to work here with multi-nation people, more fun and practice my English as well tongue.gif

I had the opportunity to work in Bangkok for 1 year and I totally loved it. Yes you do need a work permit. Learning their local language will certainly help alot. Thais are impress with foreigners who made the effort to learn their local language. You will get to enjoy nice local street food and good bargains. Maybe one day I will go back there to work.

I'm currently working in Bangkok as an expat. Everything is well taken care off.

If you want to work in BKK, as an expat, should not be any problem but if you are just here as non-expat then prepare to deal with bureaucratic nonsense.

I've been working here for last 10 months and I can say BKK is the place where you can literally live like a beggar or a king. The reason i say that is because there are many cheap places for food/entertaiment and super expensive places too. So it's up to you.

For example, their street food prices are like ours (assuming RM1 = 10 THB). So if you eat out 3 meals a day, probably cost around 150 THB. Transportation (Taxi, trains) are cheap too. But in the long run, car is also cheaper than us. Food at shops like 7-11 is around 30-40 baht or MaxValue supermart (50% off all food after 9pm).

Room rentals are heavily depending on area. Sukhumvit areas are super high priced as compared to areas like Ratchada, Ladphrao which you can get a basic 20-30sqm apartments for less than 10000 baht a month. And yea, you would need basic thai to live in those places as most of them don't speak english.

Hi, I was wondering if your company send you there or you just apply for work there? Because I am planning to apply for work there and I am kinda worried about the working permit. Because I read somewhere I need to register permit with 3 million baht (RM300k??) Doesnt sound possible..

sounds interesting. how's the safety and security in thailand? any discrimination for muslims in BKK?
i've worked in Indonesia, Brunei and Qatar before (currently back in Qatar). But I only had some work visits to BKK but never on a permanent/long term basis. Being closer to home is a big factor for me, since I mostly work on single status.

I've been living and staying in Bkk for 2 years already. Well to be honest I worked and stay all over the place. Worked in Samutprakarn amd Chonburi province amd weekends go back my gf's place in Pathumthani.

My experience is Thailand has it's good and bad points. For me as someone who is not into nightlife or shopping there is not much difference between Malaysia and Thailand.

Oh btw I will be changing job soon... will be going to my 3rd company in Thailand soon

I will be having an phone interview with a MNC located in Chon Buri, Thailand.

I have no idea what to fill up for the expected salary and leave.

Please can you tell us what should be covered by the company in thailand (e.g. medical, insurance...?) and what should we beware of (e.g tax, housing...)

Many thanks!!

Hope you dont mind if i PM u later.

First of all ask if you are getting an expat package. Some company hire foreigners but give them local benefits which you do not want. Locals have very less annual leave and no provisions for flight return back to home.

Well normally MNC should prepare your work permit and visa, but better to ask them that.

As for tax ask them if your salary is after tax (nett pay) or before tax. If before tax you may need to file your own tax returns.

My company provide almost everything - annual leave 25 days a year plus 3 times flight back, food, lodging, salary after tax.

As for medical all legal foreigners working in Thailand receives something like a medical card from government but the coverage is very low and is restricted only to be used at certain hospitals where you work. If your company can provide additional medical card that would be great although not necessary.
*
Thanks for the feedback.

It was stated the candidate will need to manage own personnel income tax, accommodation and transportation.

Is there any rule of thumb for estimating the expected salary? for example + 50% of Malaysia salary to account for the tax, accommodation and transportation in Thailand?

btw if dont mind we can pm.

I really love the language and the people there. Having a siamese gf, she too encourage me to work in thailand.

But coming from a banking background, guess it would be hard to get into bank coz language is a must there right.

Any Malaysian expat in bangkok which I can seek your opinion

1. What is the cost of living in Bangkok compare to KL? Getting mix feedback from Google but majority stated Bangkok cost of living is 20% to 30% higher then KL

2. What is the job prospect for someone with general degree, don't speak thai and limited management experience?

3. Is their quality of education in international school (primary) good?
