been doing a lot of reading in rooting and such, and i feel its all really overwhelming. i cant seem to understand it.

im now on 2.3.6 dzkl3. i read the 1st post on about rooting for G model, and i also did some reading on custom rom like superatmos 2.1.

i was going to do the superatmos 2.1, so i downloaded the file, and the odin, and the stock dzkl3.

when attempting to root my phone, it ask to input the .tar file, the file i got was Zimage.i try googling the way to get the .tar file, and the instructions and methods was just too much for me to absorb. im beginning to really regret getting the S2. the phone is awful in this stock mode, the battery is just bad, crashing, hangs, camera issues.

is there any good simple guide for noobs like me?

No pirated apps right? After factory reset still same issues? My S2 never have this issue, most of us here dont have these issues also. Yours seems like a isolated case.
*
no pirtaed apps. just angry birds, and some other games. and thats it. isolated case? relly? i read online seems like so many ppl have battery issues, crashes and also camera bug issue.

so i thought to get my phone rooted with custom rom and this too seems so tedious.

No problem bro, glad i helped smile.gif since ur on custom kernel now, maybe u can try out superrom, lots of g users here using it. If have superuser icon means its properly rooted
*
v1.0:

Download rom from the link below.
Extract the zip. You will find a folder.
Copy the folder to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/
Go to CWM recovery
Go to backup/restore option
Select SuperROM_v1.0_I9100G

do i need an external SD card to have SuperRom?

Now that im on superatmos 2.1, if i would like to try out superROM 2.0.

Do i need to download and install V1.0 first?
Or can straight go to V2.0?

Then next, i need to download CWM(clock work mod) by :
-instaling ROM manager from Market, tap ‘Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

-then, Copy the file to the root of sdcard (internal). Don’t uncompress the file as usually it will be in zip form (superROM 2.0).

-Boot into the CWM recovery

-Choose zip from sdcard and select the file.

is this the correct process guys?

superROM is a custom ROM not kernel. Thunderbolt scripts are scripts made by our very own pikachu01 that will give the phone performance + battery boosts. If ur daring, u can go ahead and try superrom and thunderbolt. Instructions are on their xda pages

doh.gif the the superROM should have been a clear give away that it was a ROM.

ill google up and do more research on kernels and scripts.

is superROM also those one of the MUST have on an S2.?

do you guys get random shutdowns on your S2? its happened twice when i was unrooted and stock rom. once today after rooting.

Stock ROM is good. I'm on custom rom coz...well I personally don't know.

Custom ROMs are good for theme-ing really (I hardly do, which begs the question why I'm on custom ROM). And also, for certain custom features e.g. swipe to wipe notification ala ICS is available on latest turkbey and checkrom, which are both actually GB (maybe that's why I'm on custom rom laugh.gif)

Apart from that, as pikachu would say, you can gain the performance/battery improvements via kernels and scripts. Which come in much smaller packages laugh.gif
*
thanks for explanation bro..that pretty much clears it up for me icon_rolleyes.gif

well i might just go with supeROM la..cause i saw the screenshots.looks yummy. hehe gives the phone some life.

but im a affraid of the custom scirpt, after laptopdude saying " IF YOU DARE" hehe

the randowm switch off issue, seems like many ppl having this prob too, normally when its in their the pockets, it might be the battery connection. im going to inspect the phone tonight when i meet my GF.

Yeah, new look will make you feel like you have a new device also laugh.gif

Don't worry too much about the "if you dare" part. Like everyone would say, these kinda flashing things are "do at your own risk", that's why he said that.

But if you follow instructions on the pages to the dot, you have like virtually non existent chance of screwing it up
*
thanks bro for the re-assurance.

what are the gains for the thunderbolts script

if yes do you do it via *#9900# which will automatically be re-enabled when phone restarted

ive read somewhere for rooted phones it cna be switched off permanently?

Never auto enabled for me, restarted phone plenty of times.

ohhh cool. yours is rooted? maybe thats what they meant, for rooted phones, if we disable it, when we restart it wont automatically switch back on.

so most of you guys disable this right? any drawbacks or cons?
