QUOTE(HxiiiK @ Apr 30 2012, 12:49 AM) if you've just started.. get a feel for the hobby with a HG (high grade) or SD (super deformed) kit first.. so you can learn how to cut parts off the tree and properly clean nub marks, snap fit the kit and panel line after.. just to get a feel for the basics before jumping into bigger kits like MG (master grade) or eventually PG u can check there for more info.. good luck and most importantly, have fun QUOTE(destiny_scefer @ Apr 30 2012, 12:54 AM) Try SD or HG first...i'm also just started this hobby about 2 month ago...so welcome to gunpla... Thanks bro HxiiiK for your encouragement for tools...only get a pocket knife and sidecutter...that should be enough... Another thing. Where do you guys get the kits from normally? I've seen some at the shopping mall. |

QUOTE(HxiiiK @ Apr 30 2012, 01:18 AM) MG is not difficult, it just requires more time and attention compared to a HG kit Ohh okay understood bro you can start out with a MG no problem, of course.. but it would be better to get a hang of it using HGs or SDs first.. so if you damage the kit you won't feel too much of a pinch since MGs are much more expensive where are you from? if KL, you can check bukit bintang area.. Berjaya Times Square has a shop on the 5th and the 7th floor selling gundam kits.. lowyat also has one on the 1st floor but its a bit more expensive there.. i recommend the 7th floor 'Gamers Arena' in BTS Actually i'm from PJ. So nearer places would be the curve, one utama. If I get from shopping mall would it be very more expensive? I'm free tomorrow... hands are itchy already Added on April 30, 2012, 1:33 am QUOTE(Khai62 @ Apr 30 2012, 01:23 AM) Well MG will be difficult for you on your first try and took alot of time but HG is a good place to practice or you will regret later, when i restart gunpla hobby i took MG first but now i regret about it because it full of noobness. Also your wallet will burn on this hobby and no turning back since you always want more. Hmm... okay good point. Btw is MG very much more exp than HG? Any price range for reference so I get an idea. I saw this set in shopping mall selling for ard 250 for MG.... how much overprice isit? For tools i first started with sandokugen(?) tool set that have cutter, screwdriver, twizzer and file if you want to. Also don't buy it in shooping mall because those are overprice. Oh no no turning back? Where can i get this sandokugen tool set? This post has been edited by flowerhorn: Apr 30 2012, 01:33 AM |

QUOTE(Khai62 @ Apr 30 2012, 01:42 AM) Yeah MG is much more expensive, normally the price around 120-200, over RM250 like the Hin-nu, sinanju, sazabi are normally at this price range. HG was normally RM40-80 but smaller than its MG counterpart barring the super massive X Expensive Dendrobium Thanks Bro, erm actually i'm seriously new and suddently feel like building a model. Don't know about "Hin-nu, sinanju, sazabi" are they the characters? I'l try to google and read what you typed in And for just a reference for that set: http://www.gundam.my/detail.php?productid=812 QUOTE(nazrul90 @ Apr 30 2012, 01:43 AM) any local hobby shop should sell this *about RM30-40 set contain: cutter, file sanding, tweezer and part seperator wops wrong quote... QUOTE(destiny_scefer @ Apr 30 2012, 08:05 PM) Thanks QUOTE(TheAdmiral @ Apr 30 2012, 08:14 PM) Gratz on getting ur 1st kit and welcome to gunpla. Thanks for your great advice. I might try those models you suggested... See how this one goes. Problem is can't always find the model you want. I'll try look out for them since I got this to occupy me for now. Not a bad choice for ur 1st kit but i'll recommend something else instead. Zaku II 2.0 or RX78 2.0 or Strike would be a better starter kit. Sandrock doesn't have too much of a weight and balance issues. Try not to pose with the blades attach end to end or attach it together with the shield, it'll be abit unbalance if you do so. Other then that Sandrock is solid. Sandrock also need abit of lining to look good, be patient when doing lining. If ur using gundam marker, u can erase the ink with eraser. If u decide to use the decals, its easier to do it b4 assembling it. Some area is abit difficult to put decals properly after fixing the parts up. If u make mistake, dont worry bout it. Everyone does, especially their 1st ever kit. If you broke some parts ask around here for some advice, 99% of the time mistakes can be fix with a combination of some glue, plastic cement, putty and sandpaper. But at the end of the day, no matter what happens just enjoy building it. Cheers. Ohh never really gave the decals much thought before this.. Thx for the tip. Erm can I assemble it before then after that snap open the parts and do the decals? You all rock! Thanks for helping me start up. |

QUOTE(HxiiiK @ Apr 30 2012, 09:57 PM) it's not advisable to snap open the parts to do decals.. but if you just pull off like, the entire arm and the entire body part.. it would be safer Okay bro, I'll do the decals as I build. Hope my hands are steady. Will post my updates.as long as plastic snap on plastic, it's not advisable to open up again since you risk damaging the pegs.. if it is plastic snap on PC part (these are the black softer plastic on the plate labelled 'PC') then you can easily take it off to do decals.. but i think sandrock, you'd better study the parts properly before snapping.. and putting on the decal first may save you a lot of trouble later.. good luck! most of all, have fun with your first kit |

QUOTE(HxiiiK @ May 1 2012, 08:09 PM) patience is required during snap fitting Yes this hobby gonna train on my patience. But I can't wait to see the finished product. Hehe. Will be more careful anyway these type of flat surfaces you can easily use super glue to fix, don't worry about it and try to be more careful too |

How do you pros cut out the nubs and avoid scratches? When i use the blade there would be scratches around it. Is there something to make it smooth? Sometimes I think use the cutter and trim got better results for a noob like me. Hehe

QUOTE(HxiiiK @ May 5 2012, 12:35 PM) just use the side cutter to take it off the runner, then use a hobby knife to trim.. just cut carefully and there shouldn't be any scratches.. do not use sand paper though if you do not intend to paint QUOTE(General_Nic @ May 5 2012, 12:39 PM) Thanks for the tips guys |
