Added on February 22, 2012, 6:44 pm Hi MYWifeCar, have you ever come across (i think you know my rides yah If you ask me, I think component or coaxial do have their difference but will need to setup properly to hear the difference. Component get my vote, but since I still have coaxial to clear.... coaxial also get my vote too. |

gettin a good 4" comp for the front is more ideal than installing at the rear.
meaning alwiz provide the best for the front(spent more money for the front and rear much less or use back OEM) reason being we are not trying to setup a surround sound like home AV systems. its a car hifi. the rear does help the front, by providing more ambience and bigger imaging feel. but ur not suppose to hear any vocal comin from the rear.this is done by tuning. the right way but costly affair : front and rear shd have same speakers component why? cause each speaker has its own character, hence having a same comps for front + rear will blend easily. hope it answer ur question |

But you did ask 4" or 6.5" is better, definitely 6.5" for the front. ... . Just that you will need to sacrifice the front door, but to me, definitely worth it. |

ok, but how about something quite near to yours both (& also another sifu's sound advice) but still adamant to keep my door as virgin as new which i know I musn't have rear sound distortion
Front - 4" component (am looking for just a pair of 4" midbass/driver, as I already have a new unused DEI 6.5" component set which can be used as the 6.5 midbass for the rear door whereas the tweeter & crossover for driving the front 4" midbass/driver...save cost a bit!) Rear door - 6.5 midbass (oem speaker place which is just consider right behind the front seat, using my above new 6.5 DEI midbass) = due refuse to cut the front door ler Booth - Boston Ascoustic subwoofer Existingly ady have 1 2-channel Macrom amp & will have to look for another 4-channel amp if i am going ahead with the above, provided can get an odd 4" midbass/driver This post has been edited by superdeemon: Feb 24 2012, 08:24 AM |

My car stock speaker placement is beneath the dash, somehow facing the leg.
Size is pretty limited too... 4". Will I still benefit getting a good set of 4" components to replace the stock ones? |

And what's worse, mine does not even have a removable grill like the one in the pic. Thinking of some workaround to improve the situation without involving cutting and modding. A set of 4" component with midbass in the factory location and twitters on the dash, good? Just want some decent upgrade rather than ultimate SQ. Or maybe some Focal/DLS/JBL 4" coaxial? But then again, does the speakers facing downwards matters? This post has been edited by soulfly: Feb 27 2012, 07:36 PM |

But then again, does the speakers facing downwards matters? 1) ignore that panel, either fader to soften it after you get new component sets, or just unplug it and forget about it 2) fit the 6.5" mid/mid bass to your door panel, of course, that involves cutting and modding. (if you dont plan to sell the car in the short term period, why not?) 3) component set will still be much better, less headache, and better bang for buck 4) speakers facing downwards do matter. while it may not affect that much on mid bass, your mid (which is still run by the 4"/6.5" unit instead of the tweeters unless you got a 3way setup) will definitely be affected. and if i may say, wasted, more so if you're getting reputable brands that should be worth every money you paid for. |

how about 6.5" in the kick panel instead of door panel? i think it will have more 'stealth' look which i kinda prefer. |

u can customized the door panel to fit 6.5" but will cost a fair bit due to fibre + re-wrap
to make it look good on door panel, u need to re-wrap the whole door panel wif OEM material(so it looks like 1 pc). thickness material only 2mm. material can range from BMW, Merc to japanese like vios and etc.. it will look like brand new door after dat...and it wont peel or material deteriorate in short period of time. kick panel dun have enuf space for 6.5" magnet depth. u can max it in, but most probably be blocking ur accelerator pedal. 4" is the only ideal on kick panel another alternative: tweeter on a-pillar or dash, Kick panel 4" midrange, sealed enclosure for midbass located under the seat in front of it. meaning u have less legroom. but it will sound awesome!!! its a 3-way setup. i did this for Scans revelator(premium drivers) on a wish..nice |
