i'm using Asus A45V. after i start my laptop, i need to wait to 2 or 3 minutes before i can launch any application like google chrome or open a video. if i dont wait, my pc will hang. not sure if this is due to virus?
*
start>msconfig>enter

check startup programs & services

Startup
untick all updates, unwanted programs but not Anti-viruses

Services
hide all microsoft services and untick all related to
adobe/google/bluetooth etc junk

reboot computer.
shutdown
turn on computer. if still slow like 2-3 mins then u got a problem.

btw, OEM startup's are usually slower esp if u dun remove
-junks like the games, and camera tools, fancy pancy stuff.
-didnt clean registry after uninstall junk.
-or overall ur computer is full of junk/hhd close to full adi

hi, my u46sv has a broken hinge and after a few bsods, I checked the ram with memtest and it showed errors, how do i claim warranty? I remember something from the seller that asus will send courier to pick up the laptop, is that still true? Or do i just go back to the shop? Thanks.
*
If still under warranty

go straight to yowyat plaza top floor, asus sc, because
-going back to shop or 3rd party may take ur parts and swap them
-itz easier to track ur laptop repairs

hinge broken <1 yr should be able to claim, memory too cuz faulty.

Asus N53SN

recently i dual boot DVD caddy sata2 win8 and main hhd bay sata3 win 7
(2 separate installation, on 2 hhd; while installing, other hhd is removed)
it gave me hell, after updating win8 drivers.

after win8 is all setup with drivers for 1 week, microsoft updated my win 8.
upon reboot, my win 7 1st went corrupted, forcing for repair no matter what i tried (safe/chkdisk/recboot/etc)
then because win7 was corrupted, win 8 states that there is a disk failure and just reboots itself upon startup
managed to pull everything, reformatted both drives to all 000's and reinstalled win7

now i realised that the light switch (Intel/blue to nvidia/white) stays on white.

if anyone here happen to have the lights switching thing,
question is
1) if u are happen to run the latest nvidia (14nov2013) does ur light switches?
-HD3000 is not the cause, i just updated from old to latest no fix
2) is it related to ATK drivers? (also installed the latest from old still no fix)
-is this trustable? anyone used it be4? http://n53svwindows8.altervista.org/
3) any clues on whats broke it?
-don't want to reinstall fresh win7 factory, worse of i have to uninstall nvidia/rollback

I suspect my touch pad got problem already. When you touch the touchpad, the mouse will move around crazily and sometimes automatically left and right click. No problem using mouse. Anyone know how's Asus's after sales service now? Still need to wait long time?
*
try reducing ur touchpad sensitivity and ur touchpad palm tracking technology
and also remove/disable panning/rotating and shortcut startup.

works for me.

Look into the asus G series or a
Gigabyte AORUS X3 Plus or an
Alienware or a
Illegear
or get a desktop
laptops will never be as stable as a desktop class processor

The last one in particular looks like a good deal no? 17 inch, 6GB RAM, less than RM 2.5k.

Any thoughts people?
*
dun bother getting i7 processors.
hardly any software uses it. (only few games and illustration/rendering software)
Excel will not utilize it and i5 is preety capable for everyday work these days.

my choice, Asus A555LJ-XX032H – 15.6 / I5-5200 / 4GB / 1TB / GT920M 2GB / W8.1 : RM2040/-
why? (based on work use/portability/battery life) (not based on gaming, rendering, no budget)
- i5 latest gen, graphics latest gen 2gb sommore.
- 15 inch is more portable. unless this will sit at home table never move.
- Full hd is not useful for 15 inch screen as the icons will become smaller.
- w 8.1 can upgrade to 10 for free (T&C applies)

QUOTE(spikey2506 @ Mar 29 2015, 02:47 AM)
Where did you get the quotes? Coz I myself is trying to find an Asus system with fifth gen i5. The top one.  And my local pc stores dont seem to carry any stocks. I guess waiting till after GST
*
all the seller all building up stock to sell with gst doh.gif
all cheating the buyers, this world people cheat people, then blame govt.

Btw, the top 1 is carrying last year GPU, for the same price as the one i mentioned. whistling.gif
battery life will be significantly different.

Thanks man. I think the screens for Asus are the glossy kind? Since my dad will be taking it out I think a matte screen would be better. Anyway I'll head to Lowyat to have a look.
*
matt i think only a few models have them (like the U series)
U series are very thin and only for work, main game jadi panas 1

or u can be like me and take a matt plastic and tape it on the frame
that way no dust enter and easy to clean while have some matt reflection benefits.

With most laptop aging slowly and not able to run newer games,

have anyone ever tried this product?
http://www.banggood.com/EXP-GDC-Laptop-Ext...d-p-934367.html

just curious.

interesting idea to mount a full size GPU for a laptop.

Since few of us are using i7 in laptops with 16g ram and ssd config,

the only drawback now is the GPU

anyone heard of this before?

*inb4, mod/TS if this is wrong section, u can help move.

Can the Asus Ux305 be upgraded like the ram and hdd ssd?
*
if it comes with 8gb ram and 256 ssd, why u want to upgrade it further?

8gb ram is alot to use for a normal laptop. dun tell me u want 16gb for gaming as without a fan it will not look good.

256gb ssd not enuf im sure can change but need the ultra thin spec ssd.
which has a drive space limitation.

recently my colleague using I5-4200,4GB...sometimes too much email, not responding...

any suggestion for i5

define alot alot of email 1st.
2500 emails per hour all opening at the same time?

i think ur colleague computer too much junk and HHD failing that's y not responding.
check his startup entries and other bloatwares?

also if you want, you could also convert ur HHD to 250GB SSD while ur comp is new, (if your not saving a lot of things)
4GB should be enough.

Need help. using a 2 yrs+ old Asus Vivobook S400CA.

the keyboard is going haywire where the key is not properly aligned and some key is not usable.

eg. 1 = x, 2 = q, 3 & 4 = no effect and etc.

whole kb is a mess.
USB kb is working fine but not the lappie kb.

any advise? warranty  is over i believe
*
if u can make a bootable usb with ubuntu OS, then boot into ubuntu.
if ur keyboard works normally in ubuntu,
then it is windows update that screwed ur computer up.

or if u are totally lazy, restart, spam F8 button,
select repair ur computer, then with the sign in part test ur keyboard.
if it types ur login name or password correctly then is windows screwing up in the previous update.

i had this with another laptop be4, whole keyboard malfunction and works in other os.
something to do with asus atk drivers and windows keyboard/update.
bloody annoying to solve.

Hi all,

Need some advise as well.
I'm looking at Asus A555lj model.

Thinking to:
1. Increase to 8GB RAM
2. Add-in 120GB SSD

Needs to sacrifice DVD-rom for SSD.

Will these void the warranty? And cloning the OS to SSD will still remains your OS genuine?

Thanks!
*
put ssd in hhd place, hhd in dvd rom space better.

then perform clean os install for ur ssd with ur hhd out of laptop.

non of this will void warranty. (unless to access to access hhd/ram need remove total back cover)

when claiming warrenty, just remove ssd, put back hhd in place and dvd rom back then can adi.

QUOTE(padi @ Nov 19 2015, 04:54 PM)
Sorry to barge in this specific asus model thread.

Just to ask for opinion from you guys. I owned an Asus S56CM ultrabook for about 2 years when lately my laptop starts to behave weirdly. It can't shut down properly. The screen went black/blank as it was shutting down but the LED lights/cooling fan still running and will running till the battery exhausted or i push the power button for 3 seconds (force shutdown). Moreover, all the USB port cannot be used unless i insert the USB drive/external HD right before i switch on the laptop.

I received error message from windows "Windows detected a hard disk problem. The following hard disks are reporting failure: SanDisk SSD i1200 24GB" which when i tried to access in the device manager will just made the explorer/windows not responding. From what i read, the SSD is not for storage but rather some speed-up technology/express cache or something like that for faster boot and shutdown.

Is the SSD failure is the root of all my problems? Is there any chance for it to be fixed as i am aware the SSD was not manufactured anymore. Thank in advance.
*
1st thing 1st, start backing up your files. ASAP.
(hard disk problem being reported is very very bad for hybrid ssd/SSD, as u may not boot into the hhd ever)

then u can start the diagnostics below.

try shutting down and booting up without battery inserted.
if things are normal, then your battery failure; just replace.

if u boot up and get any error such as memdump or temp related,
and the battery removal did not work,
time to change to full SSD perhaps.
truth be told, 24GB cache is not a lot and who know if it's mlc or slc type or worse tlc type.
if TLC then i guess the error is prone to come very soon.
If you download a lot of ' 'content' ' for the last 2 years, then this is highly likely the case.
i suggest getting a 250gb ssd or at least 500gb ssd if so.

I would say the hybrid ssd is most likely the cause as when shutting down, the memory cannot dump and keeps trying hence not shutting down. moreover, u forcing it to shut could cause some corruption within the drive system files. so more and more error will prompt up.

If changing hhd/ssd did not work, then it could be bios update needed.
maybe some update u recently got can't match the current bios.
proceed with caution as flashing wrong bios will rekt ur motherboard and your whole laptop.

QUOTE(padi @ Nov 19 2015, 07:46 PM)
a) Though the SSD is the one which corrupt, will it infect/starts giving problem to the normal HDD?

you will never know, better be safe than sorry.
worse case is ssd hardware fail and the whole drive refuses to boot.

b) Will try to shutdown and boot without the battery. The boot is fine BTW but takes around 3-5 minutes. hehe

c) i have never stumble upon any error as you mentioned. However, i did download a lot. How is this can contribute to the SSD failure? I already updated the bios to the latest (BIOS 209 for this model).

if u know how p2p works, ' ' downloading' ' has quite a lot of caching involved.
combined with temp allocation while booting/shutting down, and commonly opened files, and hardware design,
putting this into perspective that ssd has limited Read/write levels before failure,
and heavily dependent on the each cell usage.

lets say u have a range of A,B,C,D. part A,B is always used for system and hardly moves around,
the remaining C,D (12GB) which is used for caching, will then be heavily used for programs, downloads, etc continuously and the wear (writes) is not distributed evenly to A,B.  therefore C,D will have premature wear and fail earlier. and when 1 sector fail, the fail rate will increase exponentially.

Thanks for your advice sir.
*
correct me if i'm wrong.
i did all this research long when i was choosing hybrid and ssd.
SSD sill best esp MLC/slc hardware.
newer hybrid is much better than your older hybrids.

I have Asus notebook model A43SJ with Win 7 64bit, 2 gb ram
Recently, my operating system runs slow then it should be and checked by my fren (who know more about computer more than me) said that the hard disk cluster has been damaged.
So, i change it with Intel SSD 520 series 480gb and add 4gb ram non low voltage memory card 1600mhz.
Actually its blend well with my 2gb ram 1333mhz in the begining. After few days using it without any problems, now the operating system is acting slow again where if i click program icons, its runs so slow.
Maybe you guys might figure something missing in what happens with my situation.
*
1st is the ssd os a direct clone from the hhd (as in all ur programs are already preloaded when switched?)
if so u need reformat clean, as the junk is carried over. if not:

check processes (task manager) for spikes in usage.
check average temp (coretemp) for cpu throttle (if runs high 88'c+)
check background services (anti viruses, etc)
check if slowdown occurs while using chrome (chrome is a big hog)
check unwanted startup programs (windows key + r > msconfig > startup)

Daily workhorse still,
renders everything fine,

just no more 'high' gaming anymore since im now pushing dual setup with 1980'
keyboard is the most trashed component since now the wasd buttons have latency issues.
basic workload temps at 60-62'c, stock hhd no errors, so yeah healthy.
