Where shall I wait for the bus after I am done with the immigration? Is it very hard to locate since I suppose there will be a lot of vehicles going in and out.
*
Pay attention to what the other passengers in the bus look like. Follow them. Most of them should be seasoned.

Also pay attention to what your bus looks like and its registration plate number. On Sg side, there's a waiting/parking area for buses to wait for passengers to reboard. On the Malaysia side, there's a waiting area at 2nd Link but it's a free for all at Woodlands.

If you're a guy... seriously... don't cry in public especially not at work. Unless someone very, very close to you is dying... or you are dying (in which case you can do whatever the heck you want).

Anyway it's never wise to go to extremes in the office. Don't be extremely sad, emotional, angry, happy, comfortable, free wheeling, reserved, excited, honest, dishonest, passionate, indifferent etc. Keep everything in moderation and within reason. Your reputation and credibility will thank you for it.

Female... the stigma is of course not as bad. But still you'll be labelled to be anything from emotional, to having a lack of self control, to being unable to manage pressure, to being mentally unstable. All of which are good reasons to drop you from any senior mgt sponsor's (ie. Godfather) list of people they want support. Nobody wants to be associated with an unpromotable person.

Btw, ahchak seems to be a funny name for a girl, no?

QUOTE(ham_revilo @ Apr 9 2012, 01:18 AM)
I kinda dont understand why there will be higher chance of me securing a job in SG if i stay in SG. i know its easier to response to calls and interviews but then i already stated in my resume that im available for interview with 2 days notice. to me, MY and SG is not too far apart and with me staying in KL area is even closer to SG, so i think it does not make much diff besides not having a SG number. please do correct me if im wrong.
The fact that you "need" 2 days notice means that interviewing you entails pre-scheduling everyone involved with your interview at least 3-4 days ahead. The initial interview should be easy to set but if changes are needed (one of the interviewers need to travel etc), the rescheduling can more painful than anyone wants to deal with.

Just last week, my office had a candidate come in for interview. Apparently his uni told him they had scheduled it with us. But there was nobody to interview him. People had already left for The long weekend. Obviously there was a screw up somewhere along the line. So one of us simply took him to the Starbucks nearby, bought him a coffee and chatted a while etc etc. luckily he was a local, so no huge problem. Imagine of he was from KL or worse Penang or Ipoh and had to take 2-3 unpaid days leave to come to Sg... it would have really sucked to be him.

even how good are you with bunch of exp and cert, you will still expect lower salary compare to local candidate, even you got PR. smile.gif (better than Non-PR, but still can't beat local
I honestly do not see this in MNCs or local listed companies, especially with regards to graduate positions.

I see it not as an issue with discrimation, but an issue with some foreigners being more desperate and willing to accept a lower pay compared with locals.

In my company, everybody gets the same salary scale. How do I know? Because I can see every emplyee's job level and salary.

But the real fact is, its existed. Your company is really good as salary scales are same, but some companies out there are not. Even bunch of my friends who are Singaporean citizen can't believe this as well after what his colleague who is a PR has faced throughout the problem. I hate to say this though but this is really true. sad.gif I do believe there is discrimination within some companies. Maybe the reason you all don't feel it is because the company kept this problem really well and its a well reputation companies as well. Foreigners being more desperate, yes i truly agree, but the case i've seen, its not due to lower pay, in fact is really somehow like discrimination.
You can only be discriminated if you agree with it. If you don't want to be paid less than your local peers, then don't take the offer. If you accept the offer, you agree to be discriminated.

15K RM or SGD ? smile.gif

15K RM is like 6250 SGD ~ around a manager/ senior manager post in SG ?
For quite a few pharma/petrochemical MNCs, the first manager pay level starts at about S$10K.

Job titles don't have much meaning. We recently had a Director from a Jap MNC join us as an Exec (ie. <10K).

im currently earning 6.5k in msia (incl allowances of 1.8k). n was offered a new job in sg with 5.5k (incl allowance of 1k). it's a sales job n required me to own a sg car. by the way, there's 13mth bonus given.

just wondering whether this pay looks ok? dun wan to b shortchanged la..talked to hr, they said this is the market rate...as my healthcare industry experiences r not much..just 3yrs plus....as i joined in a bit late..

any thoughts guys?
S$5.5K is approximately the salary + car allowance for a salesperson with maybe one or two years experiece in a MNC in the pharma/petrochem industry.

My company's fresh graduate salary for 2012 is $3.9K (But we are still offering 3.3-3.5 just in case we need to counter offer). Tool of trade car allowance is $1.5K for fresh salespeople.

Hi seantang, think ur company offering quite high. Heard from a Fren of mine in Pharma w 6 yrs experience fetching 3.8k for basic only. Plus another 1.1k as car allowance (exclude toll/erp & parking), hp is claimable too.
That's definitely not Pfizer, Merck, RP etc. Or your friend is really underperforming.

Hi seantang, how much do u think I shld negotiate to justify a move there?

Thx. Was informed by hr 1 to 1 is not possible
That depends lah... on your qualifications, experiences and scope of the new job.

But my company used to have automatic promotions for sales. 7 promotions in 7 years whereby by the end of 7 years in the company (avg ~30 years old) - the salesman would be drawing around $9K (at today's salary scale for that job level #7).

We are now on merit promotions, but most of our sellers by 10 years in the company will be drawing $10K.

NB. Not including car allowance btw. By the time they draw 10K, their car allowance will be 2K+.

Chemical industry. But you hit the nail on the head. Our sellers do not receive incentives or commissions. Hence the high fixed remuneration.

A Linkedin contact sent this to me looking for candidates. Not a bad paying position in a fairly interesting industry (esp if you're a car enthusiast). If anybody's interested, PM me your Linkedin profile and I'll put you in contact with the recruiter. The chap mentioned that it was urgent,.. so chances to get at least a call to chat should be high.

any openings for supply chain line ?

This is a senior exec/junior manager role.

It only reports to the controller, so the business unit won't be huge. But the beauty of business partnering jobs is the involvement with and exposure to people who actually run the business.

No supply chain. Not my area.

QUOTE(newaisa @ Apr 22 2012, 11:50 AM)
Hi guys,

Got a question with the mobile plan here. I saw starhub has this "Caller Number Display" which is $5+ a month. Is this normal? I have never seen charges like this before...so we basically have to pay $5 a month in order to see the caller's number?

So if I don't pay the fee does that mean i won't be able to see the caller's number
There's a few things they tend to itemize in Sg where we are used to it being packaged by default in Malaysia. One if it is Caller ID, another one is roaming (although you can now choose pay-as-you-roam). Years ago, it was still possible to get charged for incoming calls. Even today they list "all day free incoming calls" as a feature.

But I see it as something positive as you can actually reduce your bill if you don't want to pay for it. Just that in My, it's already part of the monthly subscription and you can't take it out. So they tell you it's free.

On the flip side, the handset subsidies are really high, free minutes and free SMS is quite generous even with the cheap plans and some value added services like Multi-SIM are a steal. Data is also damn cheap compared to My.

To be honest, I've never seen anyone get his credit card application rejected before. If you meet the minimum 80K income criteria, then your credit standing/history must be the issue.

Yeah, cuz I told the officer my application rejected once when he asked me to apply.
Who told you that the minimum income requirement is just a figure?

The officer? His commission is based on the number of applications. The applications don't need to be successful.
