I've already stated, for me personally I'm unable to do that. If you are in the situation, you should ask yourself, why can't you get a better pay? what's lacking for you to get a better pay?
*
I am not in that situation, i cant answer it. But for many, if you ask them that question, they may ask you back, Do i have a choice?....especially the banggala labors. There may be someone with a diploma or just a form 6 cert and also want to come here to work but getting less than 2k paid. What choices they have? Work as admin clerk, ask them to improve further? I guess it is easy to say.

Expenditure is relative mah. Earn $2k of course got no choice but to share room, but if you're earning $10k will you still feel like sharing room to save $300?
*
different people different choice.....some may say yes....but majority may say no.....but i dont see whats wrong with it......sometimes is to help people.....for example.....before that, i live alone in a whole house and got 3 extra rooms.....and many of my colleagues ask me to sub set one room to them and i relucant but at the end let go because see them without a proper place to stay also "susah".....end up each room i just collect 100 and 50 for the smallest room as a token and that includes water and eletricity....and this is in KL lar.....

But when one by one of them resigning, i take back all the rooms.

And yes earning 2k, is no choice but many still want to rent a room for him/herself lar... doh.gif

Just chipping in to give some additional info. Moving from KL to SG, you have to give up certain ... comforts. Ringgit-to-Dollar, rm2.5k/mth you can have a nice comfy gated condo with swimming pool, and drive everywhere in a local car. sgd2.5k/mth you can only get a <1000sqft hdb (i.e. public housing) flat with no facilities, and have to take public transport everywhere.

In addition, the first-month relocation & settling-in money you need to cough up can be quite an eye-opener - when moving in to my current place (rented) I had to cough up over $12k for agent fee, first month rental, 2 months security deposit and furnishing. If your company doesn't cover your relocation then you have to further factor in the costs of packing and shipping all the contents of your KL place to SG as well.

Other than housing & owning a car though, everything else is less than a sgd1:myr1 ratio. quick & dirty example, marutama ramen in MY is like rm20 a bowl; in SG it's $14. Also, just commenting on river's $5k estimation, that's about the average basic monthly expenses for myself + my fiancee without kids - and not including all those "miscellaneous" stuff that every month also sure got - things like birthdays, needing to fly back to M'sia for whatever purpose, holidays, shopping, savings, etc etc.
*
hmm.gif Deo is an elite here....good income - good life...

my income almost 95% (after deduction of basic expenses like food, transport and rental) goes back to RM to pay off loans.....hope after 3 more years can go back and affordable to take a lower income job and relax more.....

eh where got? $5k is for two ppl leh. take out the housing rental and it's $1.2k/pax/month that's hardly what I would call "luxurious" hmm.gif
*
for 5k = 2.5k per person/mth and that can be easily more than one whole month salary of a lot of malaysians cari makan here. My landlord's wife, his sister, brother-in-law and sis-in-law, all drawing between 1.5k - 2.5k salary per month only. I saw it when they do the online tax declaration.....So, this doesnt mean this people cannot enjoy as all also having the latest iphone..... laugh.gif

And which place should i stay in JB near to tuas checkpoint..??  anywhere that is safe & gt lotsa fooods ?? Is getang patah okay?? heard  from fren jb is very dangerous..lolx
*
inside JB polis station is most safe......

your requirement...want near to tuas, safest, lots of food.... doh.gif may be employed 2 personal security guards better.

Timing to go to work, as so many have pointed out, it depends on the jam which is sometimes unpredictable, but i guess you never read the earlier posts as well. Then i suggest you start at 5am and guarantee you wont be late to work. whistling.gif

ah soon bak kut teh at taman sentosa, jalan wong ah fook curry fish head.
u can go for bukit indah, gelang patah is a bit ulu and not very convenient. i stil don't get it, why u wanna choose Tuas over causeway? causeway is always cheaper and more convenient if u work at paya lebar.
talking about safety, i would advice u to go for more new area. Austin, Tebrau, Setia Tropika, Bukit Indah area. most of those place more atas compare to other places. hence the property there are more expensive.
those bangla and indon cannot afford it hence making the place more secure and organized.
*
more atas area also mean a target place to the buglars as well. And the robbers knows that many houses are empty as people staying there are working in singapore and some are weekend house. Just another point thinking from different angle.

if I decided to convert it to cash, is it higher than Clear card ? but Clear card a lot of dining perks, which i use quite often  smile.gif

Mine is still 2X monthly salary limits after so long. Never offer to increase also. Maybe spending power not there coz this is my secondary card.

Added on April 26, 2012, 11:10 am

I'm also confused on those minimum requirement set by banks. Shouldn't it be regulate by the central bank, like the MAS ?
*
i received citibank letter to ask to fill up the form to increase my limit to 4x salary...but with current limit, i also enuff use, so, no bother about it. not that i am a big spender, i only use it for grocery and overseas hotel and food.......otherwise, hardly use the card.....

You think it's too high or too low? Anyway two points. The figures you quoted are household income, not per person; and average and Median are two different things entirely.

"As reported in the news, median monthly household income from work has increased by 11% from S$6,342 in 2010 to S$7,037 in 2011"

To me I don't see much wrong with these figures. One family one household, mother and father both work and earn ~$3k each also around there already what (the figures quoted in the article are inclusive of employer CPF).
*
if in a house, got the husband and wife working, and their siblings also staying together, will their income count into the couples income as a household income?
