There are plenty of roms in XDA Developers. u can try it all. Prefer Original Development Android ROM. U can use SAMI OS. JellyMod n etc for JB Version. Also u can try Jetmod if u wan to stay with GB.

Or u can simply tweaks by ur self.
Example for my self.
S Advance I9070
Jelly Bean 4.1.2 I9070DXAMD1 (Malaysia JB) - By SamMobile
Rooted
Cocore 8.2 Kernel
Debloated
Deodexed + Zipalign
Operation Killjoy - Binaries Modification

So far so good.
Perfomance + Battery Life.
Better than before.

Perhaps you exposed your phone screen to some magnetic thingy. Go for repair if you STILL love S Advance. If not get a new phone.

Better to buy a new phone instead of repair. New set of s advance today can got around RM 6xx- RM7XX.

Original battery around rm20+ to rm50+.. need to search...

Try open setting> battery... look what really consume the battery...
If the chart didn't really go to 0%, but suddenly off, maybe its ur phone..

How long ur battery last after fully charged?
U on official stock rom or using custom rom?
*
no, original SAMSUNG battery costs u around RM100. Don't trust those "samsung" battery at normal shop with price of 50.

You mean you want to upgrade your brother's S Advance from GB to JB ?

OK, here is the tutorial :

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxy-s-advance-...ellybean-457641

http://www.pcnexus.net/2013/04/how-to-upda...bean-xxlq4.html

( Ignore the XXLQB and XXLG4, replace it with the latest official ROM )

ROM can download from this website : http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9070
The latest ROM is UBLPK ( ARO = Argentina region ).
Usually, the newer the the build date, the better the experience.

If you don't want foreign country ROM, you always can download Malaysia punya ROM from that given website.

NOTE : I advise you to stay on GB because JB for S Advance is not stable. S Advance users had complaint a lot about JB being sluggish, freeze, hanging. I do experience my S Advance got hanged a lot myself. But the new Argentina ROM might have fix all those problems.

WARNING : DO AT YOUR OWN RISK. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEED. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE ON YOUR BRO'S S ADVANCE.

Sorry, that's all I can help. My S Advance had been stolen last year.
