Actually rubber is enough. It can last for few years until you change the tyre, then you should change the valve together when change the tyre. If you use steel valve when you change tyre you still have to change the valve to prevent the risk of the rubber harden.

use steel too, rubber tends to crack n the pressure inside tyre lost.. rm10 each for steel type.. (but still there's a rubber even at steel valve)

last month changed rubber valve that is cracked. Age of the rubber? I think 6 years or so. sweat.gif

I changed tyres today and the shop is asking if I want to change the tubeless valves, rubber one rm6 each and rm12 for steel one.

Is this necessary to change in the first place?

Why need to change also? Doesn’t new tyre comes with this thing already? Or it is something sold separately?

If dun change, meaning that the existing one will be used?

The shop is not cheating you by asking if you want to change the tubeless valves ...

I'd no problem using back used old tubeless valves those days with 50k-60k tyre life.

BUT with XM2 at 110k km or thereabout tyre usage, I do tag along the shop and get them replaced.

so these tubeless valves are components that do not come along with new tyres? so everytime u change tyres, the shop will just use back the existing tubeless valves? andthe tubeless valves may potentially turn bad over time and cause leaking of air?

i do not understand this part.

did u replace the rubber one or steel one? how much does it cost normally?

I usually nego with them to throw in these rubber valves for free. I nego on the tyre price first, including balancing (and alignment if you need one), then ask them to throw in these rubber valves FOC. I walk away if they don't agree.

Steel ones do have rubber seals inside too. I have had leaking steel valves too, probably because the ex-owner used them for a long time. In addition, steel valves need to be capped with steel caps to look nice, and we all know steel caps attract thieves. So I go for rubber valves now.

icic. ok thanks a lot for the clarification.

i was really puzzled about what are tubeless valves before this.

in the past, everytime i change new tyres, the shop also asked me if i want to change. i never opt to change.
so this round i opted for rm6 rubber one each. quite ok also la. since long time never change. biggrin.gif

Yeah, peace of mind is priceless. They can probably last for at least 2 sets of tyre changes, but not worth the savings if they leak.

true. since the rubber one is rm6 each while steel one is rm12 each.

if change rubber now can change again during the next tyre change. total cost also same but can change twice. tongue.gif

But some rims really look better with steel valves... I'd probably go for steel valves just for the aesthetics if I was 20 years younger, where looks matters more than practicality or cost laugh.gif

true. indeed. steel will look nicer.

ya. my car is also super old car now. dun bother any more on its look. importantly the practicality and CP value now. tongue.gif

besides, did u fix dented rim before? i was quoted rm90 to fix one but i reduced to rm80. seems like still expensive rite?
i dun intend to change rim since it is a old car. if can fix i will continue to fix it.

Never dented any rims to the point of having to fix them, so can't comment on the price.
