Nobody mentioned about the new 4TB RE drives from WD?
7200rpm, 800GB/platter, 24/7 1.2 Million hours MTBF and 64MB cache for the SATA (1.4 Million hours MTBF and 32MB cache for SAS).
Still no 1TB/platter for the Raid Edition drives. The 800GB/platter is a sure give away clue that they rely on Hitachi's design. Perhaps from their more reliable Ultrastar Enterprise drives.
Haha, most of us here just normal petty consumer with budget minded so RE drives is expensive unless data critical mission.7200rpm, 800GB/platter, 24/7 1.2 Million hours MTBF and 64MB cache for the SATA (1.4 Million hours MTBF and 32MB cache for SAS).

For the 1TB/platter on RE drives, perhaps they have yet to find a reliable solution to store data on a higher density platter? I know technology is everything but does higher density platter also require much sensitive control on the read/write arm? IMHO.
