hmm.... like that is almost dealbreaker already (at least to me)....  doh.gif
hmmm.... guess I will have to go to Seagate for my future ext hdd....  cry.gif
currently have 4 WD Passports in my backup....  sweat.gif

Currently the only model that has been dissect (confirmed on Youtube) is Seagate Expansion of which is the cheapest among all the series.
I'm not too sure about the Slim series and beyond though so keep an eye on.
Seagate Expansion has 2TB model... 2TB on laptop anyone? brows.gif

Youtubed a bit and found this...

Really learnt alot from sifus of hdd here, now will be more picky about getting ext hdd already, although warranty is still a priority, now there is another factor to consider, which is ease of data retrieval juuuuuuuuuuuust in case something happens  sweat.gif

Edit: Just simply checked in garage sales, Seagate Backup Plus 2.5" ext hdd max capacity only 1TB? no 2TB models?  cry.gif  cry.gif

2TB still new in market, and price probably will be pretty high.
You can always import from Amazon or Ebay? But of course as you're concern about warranty, it's not worth the while even it's cheaper to buy through them. sweat.gif

a chance to win yourself a drive!

6TB RED would be great!

btw I'm using 6TB now but Windows 7 64bit refuse to allow me to allocate more space than that. Can't even partition the additional space.

quite stump on search terms to put on Google either.

Allow more space than 2TB? hmm.gif
Latest Intel storage chipset driver?
GPT formatted?
Erm, what's more need to be considered? hmm.gif

Probably due to newly release drive, there's not much info on the web other than DOA and bad sectors drives appearing. sweat.gif

Bought a WD Purple internal 3TB SATA HDD.

But when view in Disk Management or other software eg paragon partition manager from Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit on different computers, i can only see 2TB, the other 1TB is missing. I see from google there should be 1TB unallocated, but I don't see it at all. I tried using various partition and data recovery software but nothing fixed.

Anyone knows solution?

hmm.gif Erm, my Windows 7 has no issue on several 3TBs, perhaps you should check if your BIOS able to locate the 3000 GB or not?
Disk Management should able to see 27xx GB unallocated, should use GPT when initialize. wink.gif

FYI I also has the 3TB purple.

Hi guys,

My WD 2TB is having some issues lately. When I am trying to copy some files over (PC to Harddisk), it just keep getting stuck half way.

I tried cancelling the process and ended up became not responding  sad.gif

Searching on the web on this, some say it needs to set the enable caching in Windows, but the issue still persist.

Anyone has idea how I can fix this problem?

Check the health of your hard disk, use HDDScan or any other software that can extract SMART info from your hard disk, then look at few of these attributes with keyword "sector", such as "Reallocated sector count" (worst possible case), "Pending sector count".
If there's any number other than "0" then backup all files from that hard disk to other hard disk. Look for software that can wipe your hard disk, usually format won't be enough to clear the "Pending sector count" flag, if the "Reallocated sector count" flag is increasing after you do wiping, proceed to RMA your hard disk, you can't rescue such severe damage.
This is an usual sign of failing hard disk, your case may be different, but you may try out those method as I faced this quite few times from my own hard disk and my time as technical support.

I downloaded HDDScan and saw a red with "x" mark status on "Reallocated Sector Count" there are a bunch of number on that line. I'm not sure what it means.

What kind of software would you suggest to wipe the harddisk?
I tried copying the files to a different location and there were no issue.

I followed your instructions to run Scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box on my external harddisk and the scan is still running this morning from last night. Is the scan supposed to be that long?

What are the scenario I should be seeing after the scan is complete?

Ah... doh.gif I think I've mentioned to backup anything from the hard disk before you going to wipe but well, do try to backup as many as possible since the Chkdsk may have destroyed most of the data by now; worst options ever to attempt to recover a bad sectors hard disk (from many experiences).
Lets assume the numbers at the "Reallocated Sector Count" is higher than 10 or 20 (Ex. 0x00000010), it's confirmed to be able to claim RMA, no need the hassle of performing any wipe unless you have sensitive data inside.

Wipe software,
1) WDC HDD support software has the option to do so, but I didn't use it for long time so not sure how to access the feature.
2) http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-LLF-Low-Level-Format-Tool/ 50MB/s limit for free version, suggested for 1TB and below HDD, took 1 night to finish, 3TB may takes up to 1 day sweat.gif .

Good luck icon_rolleyes.gif
