No written rule that SSDs should only be used as a boot drive. It can be used for storage, just that it is still too expensive to consider it as a form of storage and we have yet to reach 1TB SSD that is affordable for mainstream users.

Yeah, but average user won't go for that.

Actually there's some company that handles RMA of HDD. It's better to hand over to them to RMA for you if the RMA location is out of Malaysia.

seagate 1tb (internal) selling for RM319 at jb pc fair. ok to buy? any seagate models that should be avoided/known to be problematic?

cant decide between internal or external. i just want to store movies only. thinking external better, cause can unplug when not using, rather than letting it spin 24/7. what say you guys?
*
Don't know about Seagate, but WD's 2.5 external quite durable.

My HDD is okay now. I used HD Tune Pro to erase (zero fill) it, Current Pending Sector count back to 0.

Guys recommend me some HDD data migration software. Because I wanna migrate data (including OS) on current HDD to a new drive and use that drive as boot disk.

There's so many failing cases for WD Green, you're better off with WD Blue.

I'm not aware of any. And even if the warranty is longer, it still won't guarantee that you won't lose your media archive. RAID or manual backups to two or more HDDs will be a good idea. There is also cloud storage, but only if you don't mind storing your media files on other people's servers - not a good idea for private and confidential files.

I'm even considering a RAID setup on my upcoming rig to secure my data. I've many HDD failing in the past years.

hey guys. i just received by WD HDD from warranty claim. But when I check the WD website, they only give 1 year warrenty for the new HDD. The old HDD which I send in only left 1 year last time also... is this normal or should have the new replacement HDD been 2 years warranty also? (WD green btw)
*
My RMA-ed green drives also left 1 year warranty. Normal I guess?

tumpang thread, does anyone know if the RAID configuration of HDD will increase the lifespan of any harddisk? What is the lifespan difference between RAID 0,RAID 1, RAID 2, RAID 3, RAID 4,RAID 5, RAID 6...? Is it possible a 5 years warranty harddisk can last 10 years lifespan in Raid setup?
*
RAID doesn't improve the lifespan of your HDD bro. It just prevent you from data loss.

I read some reviews as they (RAID) are shortening the lifespan of HDD in return, so I think to further secure any data, DVD-ROM still an indispensable option.

Not sure about that. But how much in total are your files?
