May I ask what advantage does this give??    hmm.gif

Cause NEX already has a tripod mount at the bottom and  even cheap tripods can allow the camera to switch between a horizontal and vertical orientation by just a push of a lever.
*
Did you notice you enjoy shooting in Landscape mode more than in Portrait mode when using your tripod? Do you notice when you shoot in portrait mode you ended up need to do a lot of adjustment to your ballhead and sometimes even the leg? And then your knob position is changed and you find it hard to align your shot properly? L plate is something after you use it, you always want one (so it is poison, be warned!).

Guys, pls help. my nex-3 sensor and lens are full of dust, due to i always change lens in the wild... i use blower but not helping, so should i send my camera to Sony centre or normal camera shop for cleaning? how much roughly?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

*
Dust will always get into sensor, you just need to just the blower to blow it occasionally.

The reason why dust is so visible in this shot it with f13 which has a massive depth of field equivalent to 20 in full frame.

For NEX system, you get the peak sharpness at f5.6 and try not to go over f5.6 unless you are trying to do starburst. So if you shoot the above pic with f5.6, not only the dust is not visible, but your picture will be a lot sharper.

agree with you bro... i want the bokeh, but dont loss too much of sharpness on the main item as well...
i still prefer DMF on nex...
so far SEL50F18 is really a good choice...
would like to see a new package bundle with the nex7 replacement in the future    thumbup.gif

oh by the way, is all E-mount lens capable to satisfy the 24MP full picture quality of nex7?  hmm.gif
*
It will be sharp if you willing to stop down to f2.8
http://www.photozone.de/sony_nex/720-sony50f18nex?start=1

If you shoot lower than that, make sure your subject and important elements are not at border and corner

Hi bros, I bought my nex-5 + 16mm 1.5yrs ago, and I'm really disappoint and frustrated with the performance, I have dslr, and the quality from this camera is... Very bad, white balance is all off during auto (usually appeared colder) image quality is mushy, very soft.

After gone thru here maybe it's due to the inferior 16mm lens ? Ok I'm considering the 19mm sigma, any brother used this before ? And is it a lot better then the 16mm? Color wise compared to 16mm? And where is the best bargain?
*
The 16mm sucks big time especially at the corner. It didn't improve even if you stop down. The kit lens is so much better!

I have a different experience on white balance, sony sensors (and in Nikon cameras) tend to be more orangy.

What is the point of 19mm f2.8 while the kit lens can do 18mm at f3.5 (2/3 stop less only)?

The only thing that keep bothering with the NEX is the tendency to underexpose your shot when low light/in door so u need to dial in compensation a lot.

Hi Noobiba and samsungfreak,

I'm not sure if this can be used to convince you guys otherwise regarding your sentiments on the 16.. f/2.8 lens, but I don't seem to have any issues with it even with a very basic NEX3. Furthermore, as you know attaching anything to the front of any lens will definitely degrade the image quality by a fair bit however little it may be.

But do consider looking through these images in my blog and give your opinion on my so-so images... taken with NEX3 with 16mm f/2.8 lens with fisheye adapter in front.

Nice shot bro. The 16 is sharp at the center but very bad at the corner. The photo you show does not have corner details on right but some on the left. See how the bridge details fall off dramatically near the border. If you shoot wide open or use it with the 23mp Nex 7, it will be even worst.

This lens has no corner resolution according to Photozone.

http://www.photozone.de/sony_nex/728-sony16f28nex7?start=1 Test on 23mp
I have not seen anything as bad.

http://slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/1346 state the same with blur index up to 7 units, something you don't see with other lenses.

The kit lens do a lot better. But still almost all Nex lenses are not very good at corner due to larger APS-C sensor, but the 16mm is simply the worst.

So basically, what you're saying is that you've only read about it and have not tested it personally? 16mm vignettes badly? Sorry, I don't see it. Just taken out my 16mm and tested at all apertures. Doesn't seem to affect much even when shooting on a white wall. Stopped down, yes, it does sharpen the image up.
*
16mm indeed vignettes badly. Photozone state it to 3EV, making it #1 in all lenses! It is the reason why the corner is not sharp because the corner don't receive much light and require vignetting correction and perceptive correction that blur it even more. I am sure you have turn on "vignetting correction" in your camera where the camera will brightened the corner for you post captured. I heard online that this setting will affect the RAW file but I cannot confirm it.

QUOTE(lwliam @ Aug 12 2012, 09:47 PM)
If I may ask, what is the largest size photo you will be printing to? My largest is 8R/A4 size. All my images from the 16mm have no visible issue at that size. I don't mean to disrespect, but if you come up with that decision due to pixel peeping, then I really think you should deeply reconsider this issue.

Added on August 12, 2012, 9:50 pm@samsungfreak

To my defence, the photo above was shot with the fisheye adapter, and as mentioned, filters will degrade an image, what more its at the extreme edges in the mentioned image above. And it's focused at infinity, the bridge is a few meters from where I was standing, with f/5.6, the foreground will not be in full focus.

The NEX3 does not have vignette reduction in camera, and even in my post process workflow, I do not do any vignette correction. In fact, I add vignette to images more instead of taking them out. So far for the Alpha line, only the A77 has this function, and even that, only compatible lenses can utilise this function.

Added on August 12, 2012, 9:54 pm@noobiba

The 17-50 is a very sharp lens. Pancake lenses like the 16mm has its compromises to make it achieve the compact size as it is, which is by compromising maximum optical performance. Else, for an f/2.8 lens, one would expect the lens element to be huge if it to be able to perform excellent optically.
*
Haha, don't worry William, if you think it is good and it serve you well, do enjoy it. At the end it is a hobby is about enjoyment. rclxms.gif

Just curious asking, what is the max ISO can go for with low noise? 1600 or 3200?
*
Depending on how big you want to print. I guess 800 is very good for A3. Maybe 1,600 at A4. Just shoot at whatever ISO is required with the shutter speed and aperture your require lor.

I also buy from HK last time because Malaysia don't have yet. There is no Sony Malaysia warranty for it.

Please note that AP got PAL and NTSC, buy from HK and you get PAL which is same as Malaysia. Buy from Taiwan or Japan you get NTSC.

Hi bros, because of my complaint of vignetting on 16mm, I got to see so much nice photos from this 16mm, hehe, kira untung.

Ok, cut the complaint, the fisheye adapter seems not bad, kind of missing my sold Samyang 8mm, not really know how to control, too wide. Might consider to buy UWA adapter if this lens not sold within 2 months, continue to explore it.

Some real-life not in-room photos of my 16mm.

featured the function I love the most, sweep panorama !

Ya but Nex 5N unable to fit into my pocket... And rx100 possible, 1 of the Reason why I shooted only 2000+ photos with my nex-5 after 1.5yrs is its still bulky, comparing to my iPhone 4 haha.

Example is Ramadan bazaar, last 2 yrs I went there with my dslr, last yr with my film rangefinder, last week I was there with my iPhone + instagram, reason cos it shoot decent photo, and with the right mood, IQ doesn't really matter for street photography.

iPhone 4, for sale also, give me your offer, set is 1yr old.

Haha, you really got lots of stuff for sale!!!

i am soooo angry now !!!!! Join a competition by Sony, prize is Sony F3, judging criteria is based on judges, will have 3 prizes, theme Most Stylish, Most Photogenic, and most creative.

my friend and i took part in it, and we can see the gallery online and we though we will win for sure (at least 1 prize), but we get nothing at all !!!

All image is taken by Sony F3, so its ok to put here tongue.gif

That's why if one win a competition doesn't mean he is good, just mean the judges like his photos.

I see, cause my d700 is heavy for daily use... btw, i thought the new adaptor got auto focus?
Thinking to use with nikkor 12-24 n 70-300vr...

Adaptor no auto focus. It will be very front heavy also. Controls of D700 score 10 points. Control on NEX (except Nex 7) score 2 points only. Please don't simply sell before you play well with the NEX!!! There is also no wide angle options on NEX.

Huh, i thought LA-EA2 from sony can auto focus? Nikkor on it still manual focus?  blush.gif
LA-EA2 must use A mount lens to AF. It can't even take a Nikkor lens.

So far I guess it's only the Sony E-mount to canon EOS EF-mount, and Sony E-mount to Sony Amount adapters which are electronically connected. I haven't heard of an electronic one for Nikkor yet, so it's manual focus/manual aperture but i'm also hoping for an electronic one haha.
The electronic adapter only support the change of aperture. All lenses still need to be focused manually. Have not seen any adapter that can AF. I guess probably won't have one due to the difficulties.
