QUOTE(ojtee @ Jan 27 2012, 04:51 PM) What's the recomended FL for portrait, group photos for DX cameras? I'm undecided between 85mm f1.8D and 50mm f1.4G I would basically be taking pix from about 10 feet/3m or so any advise? Portraiture length for FX is 85mm ~ 135mm. Do the maths for DX. For group photo, it depends on the number and what "kind" of group photos to be produced, I personally prefer 50mm on FX but that would be half-body only.

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Feb 8 2012, 11:40 AM) Doesn't seems to have IS on the 24-70mm version II. But on the other hand, Tamron recently announce their 24-70mm equivalent/alternative which comes with VC. My bad. Seeing it wrongly. Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II doesn't has IS except for the 24mm and 28mm wide lenses

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 8 2012, 03:23 PM) I wonder why go for the 24mm f/2.8 IS prime when you can go for the 24mm f/1.4? For handheld landscaping? o_O No idea. The later wide lenses not L lens though. BTW, what's the different between D800 and D800E? What's the purpose of taking down the AA filter? Care to enlighten me with details?

QUOTE(0168257061 @ Feb 8 2012, 03:41 PM) low pass filter/AA filter is to remove the moire pattern where there is no-AA it is a layer of filter before the sensor. drawback is it will result in less sharp. less by how many % I don't know. in order to fully maximise such large amount of megapix AA filter is removed, and result in better sharpness. those are theoretical, in practical I think it's hard to differentiate. or in purist view, D800E is better to them. Hence, what's the definite pros & cons between D800 and D800E? If I'm not mistaken based on your explanation and what I read earlier, D800E without AA is more suitable for studio or "still" photography and not suitable for movement?

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 8 2012, 03:51 PM) 24mm f/1.4 is a L lens right? Removing AA filter always improves the 'sharpness'. Not just on high MP sensors, even on the 12MP D700 sensor. Their price for 24mm f/1.4L should be sky high, isn't? Perhaps the 24mm and 28mm to cater for lower class. Anyway, D700 has the AA filter removed as well? If indeed having the AA will decrease the sharpness, what's to do putting there in the first place? What's the cons of having AA filter?

QUOTE(Everdying @ Feb 8 2012, 06:20 PM) i'll wait for D3s price to drop further instead More to wonder who'll be using D800/D800E to shot actual day wedding. Oh my... just imagine shooting at the bombastic megapixels... 1TB HDD can contain how many days of shooting?

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 8 2012, 06:36 PM) Shooting 36MP Jpeg is like shooting uncompressed RAW of the 12MP D700 LOL... Cham lo... those laptops when editing sure kinda gg ._. I like Everdying's idea of getting D3s when the price dropped. However, D800E able to muscle out every details you need and that only come with "passion" for photography. Do you have it? I wonder what Canon has under their shelves now...

QUOTE(b0r1nG @ Feb 8 2012, 06:48 PM) I have a few photographer friends who is using 5D MK II to shoot actual day and they did not use 21MP size, they normally shoot at 11MP only because the total file size is going to kill the customers! LOL Usually I compress and resize the photos to the customer after edited. Unless sending for album printing, then the selected photos for printing will be at maximum details possible.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 9 2012, 01:40 PM) A friend of mine attended the launch, and mentioned pricing estimated about RM10k-12k in Msia. That should be the right estimation for RRP. Since seather mentioned his regular shop putting approx RM7.5K++. Should the street price approximately RM8.5K ~ RM9K upon launching? Damn... far from my reach

QUOTE(ifer @ Feb 9 2012, 03:54 PM) Prolly because Nikon gave him a good deal. I am thinking of switching to Canon because they give me an offer I cant refuse. Jerry Ghionis got his D3s + 24-70 f/2.8 for free. He won it. Perhaps Nikon gave him a good deal just to post that up? LOL !!!

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 10 2012, 01:49 PM) So it has to be those Chase Jarvis, Louis Pang etc level is required? Then no choice lor, jump to the bright side then. I often read this that Louis Pang mentioned he bought every single Nikon's products with his own wallet and not being sponsored. And that usually come when there's debate happening between Canon vs Nikon thingy. Probably one of their procedure that we may not know, but I hardly see Louis promoting Nikon or showing off himself with Nikon. Unlike so photographer at his level, one of their introduction is their camera history which bear the big logo of Canon

QUOTE(0163119779 @ Feb 10 2012, 03:04 PM) Wan to ask sifu sifu.....I plan to buy a 1.8f lens in may..which 1 i should choose??? 50mm f1.8 G or 35mm f1.8G???? This is a very common answer and yet the answer that only the person that using it can tell. It depends on what you want to shoot and how you want to shoot it. At certain condition or style, a 50mm may be more preferable than 35mm and vice versa. Given asking about opinion, I'll pick the 50mm at anytime than the 35mm. If to go wide, I'll go wider than 35mm.

QUOTE(goldfries @ Feb 10 2012, 05:34 PM) ehh, Louis is NPS member #1. Even that, you think Nikon give him the Nikon gears ah? Nope, he doesn't get them. Then you are member # ? QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 10 2012, 05:41 PM) Well if that's the case then I guess he likes Nikon a lot... or Canon doesn't offer him? (unlikely???) BTW, I have known some of the pro photogs prefer Nikon over Canon. Not to mention some Canon pro photogs do mention they love Nikon's system more. But why they didn't migrate, didn't shared

QUOTE(0168257061 @ Feb 10 2012, 07:14 PM) If migrate due to "X camera produce better skin tone" that is really laughable Well, the pro photog that using Canon shared that he likes Nikon system, did not mention color tone or white balance. Instead, the sharpness, ISO performance and AF system of Nikon that being mentioned. Added on February 10, 2012, 7:19 pmQUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 10 2012, 07:18 PM) Because they have contract with Canon perhaps? Canon probably tie them down for a certain period then sponsoring some of their gears perhaps. High likelihood perhaps This post has been edited by vearn27: Feb 10 2012, 07:19 PM
