Ways to protect padlock from scratching, Main gate, grille etc

Guys, Please share how you prevent/minimize padlock from scratching/peeling off paint from your grille. I just repainted my grille. tennis racket grip tape? black tape? cellophane tape? double sided tape? Please share... This post has been edited by six66: Jan 12 2012, 07:38 PM

ok.. thats one way of protecting it. but what about the spot where you hang the padlock once you have opened it? the horizontal part of the grille? thanks for sharing.

Basically, just place some plastic material (hose, etc) at the location where you intend to place the unlocked padlock.

It is good idea to cover the lock rather stick something on the gate. Look ugly. To protect more to the gate ear side, probably can cover the lock U side with the shringe tube which can get it from electronic or electrical shop. It sell in meter and can cut it, sleeve inside and use heat to shringe it. You can cover few layer on it.

To me i don't really mind some chipping, is part of house wear and tear. At least the house look occupant.

Another is teflon tube or latex tube which can get it at ACE. It expandable to certain diameter when sleeve on it.
