![]() Build quality seems pretty decent. I wont go as far as to say it looks superb, but for that price, I am not complaining at all! Out of the box, the ESC was hanging loose. No idea how could the double sided tape came off. But that was the only “defect” the car came with. Also, there is a lot of slop in the steering. In comparison to my Turnigy DB’s steering, the slop on the Trooper is far more noticeable. I’ll have to look further into that issue. Also, I’ve moved the shocks’ position, and also stiffened it a bit. At stock height, the rear end of the body will rub onto the wheels at full compression. I’ve raised the bodyshell quite a bit, but it still rubs. I’ll proceed to trim off the fenders and see how would that help. Speaking of the bodyshell, it is very flimsy and flexible, and thin. Also the bodyposts were bend from the factory. From what I predict, in a nasty roll-over, the bodyshell might crack, and the bodyposts will break. Moving on to the wheels, they feel great, with hard foam. Wait. ONE has hard foam, while the rest feels like just regular softer foams in them. Yes, so much for consistency. But on the bright side, the rims are not as stupidly flexible as the DB. I’ll update more of what I can come across over the weekend, when I’ll have some time to drive it around. But as far as initial impressions go, that’s about what you get. And do be warned, for stuff from HobbyKing, your results may vary. Some may be luckier, while others may not. Did some offroad driving. Surface offered little traction, was quite dusty. Truck handled decently with stock tires. But the tires do not have much side bite, but forward bite was pretty good. Acceleration was a bit sluggish, but once it gets to speeds, handling is still good, as the 4WD system keeps traction in place. In jumps, if flies very nicely. Jump properly, it'll reward you with beautiful landings. Jump badly, it'll crash into the jump, tumbling everywhere. Speaking of crashes, I'm very pleased with my Trooper. No A-Arms broke. No hinge-pin broke. No body post broke. Front bumper did not break. That was after repeated amount of tumbling and crashing offroad. One of the shock's popped out, but that was a very small issue. The only thing that gave way (as per my prediction) was the uber flexible bodyshell. Small update : Here's some pro and con of this truck. Pros - Comes with alu hex. Has a nice solid alu chassis. Has steel pinion and spur. Beefy 3.5mm turnbuckles. Handles offroad stuff decently out of the box. Cons - Crappy electronics, albeit being faster out of the box than the DB. Crappy shocks (works fine for now, I wont be replacing these soon). VERY thin and flexible bodyshell. Front and rear diffs are not properly sealed, and are leaking very slowly. Steering has more slop than the DB, although (to me) it's not noticeable while driving. ![]() ![]() Would that be considered a breakage? To me, this is the least of my worry. The driveline, chassis, suspension is holding up fine. Also, I'll have to look into the servo as it seems to have lost its power turning right, but it turns left fine. I should be able to do some speedruns over the weekend and let you guys know how the speed is like, in stock form. |
