Hi guys, looking to join the club. Those of you who have one, how did you get a hold of your Samsung 830?

Hi guys hope you can help.

I got a Samsung 830 off Shufflerz, and having some problems. The first drive I could not initialize, so I sent it back to him. Now he's sent me another drive but it has the same problem. However he assures me the first drive I sent back is working and has sold it someone already.

So I'm hoping you guys can tell me if I'm doing something wrong. My BIOS is set to IDE. Windows detects the drive, and says it installs it successfully. I got to Disk Management, it detects the drive and asks if I want to init it. I pick MBR and then it goes to the hourglass icon BUT then an error msg that says there is a problem cause of an I/O device error.

What do you guys think is wrong?

Updated my BIOS to the bleeding edge, set my BIOS to AHCI, detects the drive fine. The drive is also detected fine in Windows, however if I go to Disk Management and try to initialise it it tells me there is an I/O Device Error. The only thing I've found concerning this drive is that the controller is dead. Anyone care to hazard a guess what else it could be?

Otherwise what's the best SSD you can get in Malaysia now?

From my research online, sometimes you just have bad luck with the controller. But no worries I got a full refund anyway.

He's saying that no need to simply follow benchmarks. Get what you can afford.

However from my research I would avoid Sandforce. No point to be fast if you keep having problems with your drive.

Added on April 2, 2012, 11:33 amIMHO better to pay a bit more to avoid the sakit hati.

Speaking from my experience over the past week or so, it's been great. Game very heavily and not one problem so far.

Don't forget that Singapore has a GST of 7%. You can recoup 5.5% if you fly, but if you're driving it's not an option.

You're absolutely right but do you know what's the tax rate in Malaysia and how many different taxes are there? Singapore only charges 7% GST (even if you import something) for most items except those in the list which requires a bit more.

What's the MY tax on SSDs?

Even with SATA 2 it should make a difference. Any other drive installed?
