I'm looking for a performance type SSD to run my process on daily bases.

Mostly for gaming purpose only and I do record FRAPS very often, Having thoughts on getting a Intel 520 (120gb) or a Intel 320 (120gb) SSD.

Intel 520 120gb = RM580
Intel 320 120gb = RM540

Main question, do I really need a SSD for my usage as a gamer? if so, any SSD out there that are highly recommended for gamer? Because as far as I see, Intel SSD are quite expensive.

Btw, I have plans to get a WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD as well.

Most SSDs have only 3 years warranty. But prices are also dropping quite rapidly, so they should be a lot more affordable in three to five years time.
As a gamer, SSDs are only useful in installing games, loading games and loading maps.

As a FRAPs user, it would be useful for writing the huge video files to the drive.

But both the 520 and 320 prices are a bit expensive for my taste as there are cheaper options. Like Intel's 330 120GB which goes at RM449 at most retail places. You should be able to find better offers through the online traders that we have here as well.

Thank you for your advice, the truth is...I don't have much knowledge about SSD, but somehow people highly recommended the Intel 520 or the Intel 320 for gamer. As far as I survey, it has nearly the same Read and Write speed as any other cheaper SSD out there.

I think I'll stick with a 1TB HDD for now and save some money for SSD in the future updates. But I'm just wondering, if I already installed my OS in my HDD...will it be difficult for me to move all of those data into my SSD on the future updates?

Looking to purchase a SSD within this month, which one is highly recommended?

1.OCZ Vertex 4
2.Kingston HyperX 3K
3.Crucial M4
4.Intel 520 / 320
* Preferably 64GB~120GB only.*

Planning store OS (Windows 7, 64bit) and some light application into it to insure smooth loading and restart time, other application such as games etc will go into my HDD.

My Casing has 9 3.5" HDD docks and 6 SDD 2.5" docks, so cooling and locating is not an issue for me.

Appreciate your help, Thanks.

will do bro smile.gif
Crucial M4 or Intel 330 is the best choice for now i think.
*

I think so too, the price for those tow are nearly the same as well.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Jun 16 2012, 05:51 PM)
The best SSD on that list is the Vertex 4, and it is also the second most expensive in terms of price per gigabyte.
I do however think the price is fairly reasonable, unlike the Intel 520 which is alot more expensive than it should ever have been.

Same goes for the Kingston HyperX 3K, while it is a fast drive the price you pay for just doesn't justify your wallet.
For less money you can get the Crucial M4 which is just as fast (faster on overall terms in fact).

If you have the money, by all means get the Vertex 4.
If you're a little tight, the Crucial M4 or an Intel 330.
*

Since my only purpose for SSD is to store my OS and some application, do you think is a waste to grap the Vertex 4?

QUOTE(Mr.Lonely @ Jun 17 2012, 02:25 AM)
why limit yourself with only these choices? y not consider latest toggle NAND + Micron = Corsair Force series?
yes definitely speed up, because the overall random read is improved and sequential read is way way way faster den HDD
bro, windows with upgrade & updates will cost u around 28GB atleast ( prepared for future ), so for future proof a 128GB is recommended for long run
*
Don't know much about SSD bro, just brought up some brand that are quite famous among all of the SSD.

Corsair Foce, is it expensive? Cause I'm using my SSD to store my OS and other light applications only. sweat.gif

It would be a waste if you have better things to do with your money. Just taking the cheaper M4 or 330 will do just fine.
*
Yeah nod.gif I think it would be enough for me, even if I used it on gaming purpose. It would be enough (Since I only play 1 game, which is BF3)

Btw, how much budget do I need to expect for M4 Crucial?

is RM420 for Crucial M4 120gb consider a reasonable price sweat.gif ?

RM420 is very reasonable.
It's damn hard to get it below RM400 anyways, any 128/120GB under the price of RM450 is considered good value.

Don't forget, this time last year the same drives were still RM700-RM800. doh.gif

All also say kena effect by the "Thailand flood"...but as far as I read the news.

Thailand already recovered from the flood like 3 or 4 months ago, idk why they still using the "flood" issue as an excuse.

But I think I will go with it gua...all of his price are very reasonable as well. "ling loong"

QUOTE(Lacus @ Jun 18 2012, 12:32 PM)
so if these 3 models are @ the same pricing, which one will you guys recommend?

1. OCZ Vertex 4 128GB
2. Intel 330 120GB
3. Crucial M4 120GB
*
Of course I would go for OCZ Vertex 4.

But how much does it cost actually?

M4 Crucial is around RM420, if OCZ Vertex 4 is around RM450~500...i would consider to get those since is not much of a difference. Above RM500+ is a no,no sweat.gif

If reliability and stability is a major concern, then Samsung is the right choice. Samsung was awarded contracts to supply Dell, Sony, Lenovo, Apple and other off the shelf brands with OEM versions of their 470. Eventually the 470's were released for retail sale to consumers. There have been no major issues reported. The 470 has an absolutely stellar record.

Then 830 released their 830 as successors to the 470. The first ones were OEM versions for Dell and the other off the shelf brands followed by release of retail versions for consumers. The SSD's are Samsung's own design with their own components and firmware. It looks like Samsung got it right again.

The Vertex4 was just released not long ago so it's too early to determine its reliability. Wait a few months until the Vertex4 establishes a good track record.

SSD Database

btw, price drop for Vertex4
64GB = RM319
128GB = RM519
256GB = RM935

512GB = RM2629

it think one of member here bought it, a few pages behind this thread.

Well, I found out bettle_larvae from him as well (he posted the link) and I try to contact bettle_larvae myself. He (Bettle_larvae) told me that stocks are arriving within 10 days (the day I PM he is on 18th June 2012).
