Erm, still need credit card info when registering 1 month trial with netflix?
I just registered one last week using atv2 and I just linked the itunes account, don't think they requested credit card info, although I do have some giftcard points left in my account.

Btw, how can you force set the quality for netlix?
I'm aware there's a quality setting in the netflix page, I've already set the best quality but sometimes the movies came out looking like 56k stream(probably not 56k..but too much artifacts and looking blurry)
Even video streaming on Hulu has better quality than netflix.
Using apple tv2, latest firmware and on 4mbps streamyx.

Yes there is, but certain movies/tv don't have subs.
Also, sometimes the subtitles goes out of sync for some weird reason.

After registering using itunes, you should get an email from netflix to set up your account. Then you can start netflix on other devices.

Also, has anyone updated atv to the latest firmware?
How is it so far? I'll probably wait until there's a jailbreak for that firmware version.

Presently only apple tv 2 can be jailbroken, apple tv 3 not yet.

All you need is just to configure dns in the network settings to start using the vpn, no jailbreak required.

Like aceedburn said, only the latest one is sold in apple store which is the atv 3, I even got my atv2 second hand from a guy in sarawak.

No la, with jailbreak you can install other apps like XBMC, Plex or atv Flash that allows atv to play almost all types of media files. Like mkv and not just limited to mp4 only, plus XBMC UI is really nice.

With airplay, you can display anything from your ipad. It doesn't matter if yours is jailbroken or not.

Last time I tried free trial for netflix and hulu on my 4mbps, video quality on Hulu is better compared to netflix. Netflix can check your connection and adjust the quality of the video based on that, for me mostly I get SD quality or worse. Enabling the best quality on the netflix settings doesn't seem to improve much for me

Recently I've just upgraded to 8mbps and and now can stream HD trailers directly from Trailers
I'm probably gonna give netflix a second try, with 10mbps I don't think you'll have any problems streaming videos much.

I rarely stream videos on the net actually, I mostly use xbmc on atv2 to play movies shared on my home network. On XBMC you can add a bunch of other video streaming plugins and not limited by what atv offers.

There's this app called Spark Player that allows you to stream mkv from your pc to your ipad.
You can also set the streaming quality if playback stutters

I'm sure there's other video players similar to this one but I've only tested Spark Player and it works fine so far.

Yes, it works the same on other OS and platforms.

It can be used anywhere really, you're not limited with the region like a locked iphone.

Depends on what you plan to use it for, if you wanna just use xbmc, there's a cheaper alternative like the raspberry pi.

It's basically a mini pc that runs on linux
There's 3 variants of XBMC that you can install on it
It doesn't come with IR receiver, so you'll need to get MCE remote or just use wireless keyboard to navigate thru XBMC.

If you still want atv2, I suggest you try finding it locally if anyone's still selling it. The price at ebay is just ridiculously high

You should be able to mirror anything from your ipad.
But you might as well just use the netflix app that's already available on apple tv.

Maybe can try setting up dns on the apple tv
