How is the ATV4 ? Any field reports ?
*
Hi! I just received by ATV4 yesterday and been playing with it for a short while. Here is my review based on a short time playing with it

1. App store works like it would in iOS. For example, if you downloaded an app, it will remain on your device regardless of which itunes (country) store you downloaded it from. In previous generation of ATV, Apps corresponded to the itunes country so if you switch from US Store to Malaysian store, you lose all the US Itunes Store apps. You can have multiple itunes account like in ATV3.

2. All the apps opens up much faster compared to ATV3

3. Siri remote works even with Malaysia set if you have US Itunes account. I managed to ask Siri "What did he say" and playback when back several seconds. This feature is only available is several countries as of now but it seems to work on my ATV4 set.

4. BT keyboards does not yet work with ATV4 so entering username and passwords is quite time consuming and cumbersome.

5. There is an APP on app store called NAStify which allows you to connect to NAS drive to playback video files. I managed to use that app to connect to my time capsule but could not make it playback MP4 or MKV files. I need time to investigate this issue.

6. The Siri remote works great. Its like Wii controller with a touchpad. It can control my TV volume and shut it off too and I didn't even need to program it to do so. Using siri remote will take some getting use to.
If you have universal remote, it works with ATV3 just like it did with ATV3

7. I suspect that you can manually enter DNS too although I have not done it yet.

8. There is a free PLEX app although I don't use PLEX.

9. Once an app is open, it remains open and you need to swipe to close it just like in iOS 9

10. All the apps (netflix, hbo etc) that you are familiar with previous gen of ATV looks and feel different in ATV4. Most of them have been completely redesigned for TVOS

I hope you enjoy your ATV4.

Thank you for sharing your experience on ATV4
I just order mine and will be in this Friday.
Meantime, I have installed Plex Media Sever on my PC running Win10 Pro.and streamyx 4mbps.
Installed movie trailer channel and try out streaming a few popular movie trailers.
Encountered buffering problem with msg " This server is not powerful enough to convert this video for smooth playback"
My system " Intel i5-4460 3.2 Ghz, Gigabyte H97-Gaming 3 with 8 GB RAM" should be powerful enough to transcode the video. Is it my streamyx at 4mbps is causing the problem or settings/configuration on PMS?
I foresee that I will have same problem running Plex on my ATV4 streaming video from my PC.
Any work around and advise would be most appreciated.
Thank You.

I don't use PLEX so I can't comment on it. But I think eventually, there will be apps that can natively play back other formats on ATV4 itself like VLC. As far as I know, reputable apps like Infuse and VLC will be available on TVOS sometime soon. There is already an $1.99 app (can't remember the name) that claims to be able to play back a variety of format on ATV4 with files stored on a NAS.

I am using Filebrowser app to access MP4s stored on my NAS.

If anybody is looking for a video player app for ATV4 that plays many formats then you can download VIDEO PLAYER FOR MANY FORMATS which is free for today only.

Interface is crude but it works.

this apple tv can read external hard disk? hihihi just asking..

If you are asking is the Apple TV is able to read USB drives (like Thumbdrives, Portable HDD), then no but then you can already plug these drives directly to TV.

However, Apple TV can read from Network drive (from your PC, MAC, network drive like Synology or Time Capsule) using apps like Filebrowser and infuse.

You can also transfer video, music, photo files directly to Apple TV for storage with apps like OneVideo.
