GT540M is still a strong card for most uses. Hell, even my older GT335M can take on anything thrown at it. laugh.gif

Not as hot as my Asus A42Jv yeah? Reach 98 celsius when playing Mass Effect 3  shocking.gif
Vacuumed the fan, have yet to replace thermal paste because I still got 3 month of global warranty left.

How odd... mine won't reach more than 80C shocking.gif

M3's main weakness is the poor position of the power button and build quality.

hi! i want to play battlefield with max-ed out settings. saw my friend's G53sx with gt570m , the graphics is awesome!
but i could only get either MSI's ge620dx FHD (gt635m) or ge 60 (gt650m).
i was wondering to get which one. if the gt635m can handle the ultra settings, i could save up alot than to get the more expensive ge60.
advice please? thanks!
*
G53SX only has a GTX560M.

The MSI GE60 would be better than the GE620DX in terms of graphics. The GT635M can only do medium smoothly.

Mm, that's odd.
I've seen quite a lot of temperature issues and complains for the A42Jv by other LYN forumers and I am one of them.
Did you change the thermal paste or changed any configuration?
*
Nope, never changed the paste. I only cleaned the fans. Perhaps during assembly, the heatsink was not placed properly.

Only temperature complain I have is the hard drive bay. Excessively warm at 50C average.

I don't remember where I saw but apparently they said it was merely an improved HD6970M with 10% gains. laugh.gif

Seems like this going to be a bad year for them.
*
After the release of the AMD HD7xxxM series, they'll need to do something and fast. Perhaps they got too cocky and thought that AMD can't best them.

LYN Sifus, you reckon I should wait a while more? Will more IB and GT 640M/650M laptops pop out in the market soon?
*
Definitely, if you can afford to. This is only the beginning of the Ivy Bridge refresh.

well.. that is expected.. what do u expect putting the same power envelope in a chip that is getting smaller and smaller? its not so as a heat problem, only heat distribution..
*
A smaller fabrication process would be more efficient and would produce less heat. There is a heat issue coming from the Ivy Bridge architecture design which is partially confirmed to be due to the thermal compound used.

can GT 640m play Diablo 3 in high settings?

between GT 640m and GT 635m, which 1 better?

hmm.gif
*
It can max it out at 1366x768 and maybe even 1600x900 resolutions.

The GT640M is still heaps more powerful than the GT635M which is just a rebadged GT555M. The GT640M LE is still less powerful than the GT640M.

I really hope that my old gpu can play lollipop chainsaw @ least medium....
otherwise I got 2 buy a new lappy.....

btw, which of the latest gpu is/are comparable to my gt 540m?
*
The GT630M is a rebadged GT540M with faster clock speeds.

Don't be too worried, Lollipop Chainsaw is an Unreal Engine 3 game. Afaik, the scaling on the Unreal Engine is very very decent for PCs.

Oh, that one using DDR3 version of GT650M. If i'm not mistaken, noticeably slower compare to GTX660M.
*
It's noticeably slower than the regular GDDR5 equipped GT650M.
