thinking what's the alternative to the other normal SUV around...

ie: CRV, Murano, Xtrail, Escape, Rexton, Harrier, Grand vitara...

Was wondering anyone out there who could comment on Captiva.
There 2 generations at the moment, I'm pretty much looking at the 1st gen.

any comments on the following?

a) Fuel consumption difference between the Petrol/Diesel
b) $$$ Maintenance/general servicing ( engine oil, transmission, filters, etc ).
c) Daily town/highway rides/ uphill climb and balancing/ some small off-roading (tanah merah sort).
d) space for IKEAs?.

thanks but can't afford this car or even it's maintenance.

perhaps I should say, I'm looking at sub-100k, no < 110k-ish.

The second one is just a facelift, and looks like a botox injection gone wrong.

Thats not even a proper SUV. Its just a SUV wannabe with mini-MPV chassis wit a Terios outfit.

I hvnt driven d Captiva, but I'll got wit d diesel for more practical torque. However, if it were my money, I'll stretch my $$ a little for for d Santa Fe. Power ready from its VGT anytime.

Another side point, r u planning to use it to ferry >5 ppl often?

thanks for the comment folks,

The SUV is basically single occupant 85% the time.

I know the diesel Captiva has more torque than the petrol. Just concern about the engine taking in our Euro 2M.

Rush is definitely not in my list. Car is small and tight. I sat on it before...and it's a squeeze for my size/height.

I even find the new Tucson "tight".

Might need to take a test drive from the used car dealers.

If one considering Captiva, better check on Captiva forum on their owner experience, especially on availability of spare parts and servicing.

yupe ,i plan to get a 2nd hand one. to cut from the loss of depreciation during new car buy.

Is there any common problem like Audi A4 need to service the gearbox every x-yr (Which cost like 4-10k ) ?

I check on the captivan fanclub site , it look like down already.

For fuel consumption and performance, you won't go wrong with either the C100 or C140 turbo diesel models. The 2.4 petrol will just deplete your wallet faster than anything can! However, between the two, the C140 has a better engine (different from C100) and is a little more economical between the two. Plus, it is much more refined and has better NVH.

For such a large car, it really seats 7 very comfortably (7 normal sized adults) but the best part is the torque. Not a lot of top speed but it is decent enough. If you can, use Euro5 diesel as it makes a biiiiiggggg difference in driving!

I'm not able to comment about the maintenance cost though as the company maintained it for me back then.

Having lived with an Opel Vectra before, I learned to steer well clear of anything with an ECOTEC engine.

That name reminds me of my wallet self combusting.

the facelift comes with a better diesel engine. i've used both and the refinement in the facelift is well worth the price.
