You can definately rare husky in msian weather.
My fren who lives in Ara Damansara has a Husky called Sgt Pepper I think it'll be best if you can provide a well ventilated, cool place for your husky, it'll be ok already. And remember they have their shedding season and at certain months, they shed like nobody's business |

people do keep huskies here, but make sure you are really ready before buying. i guess the maintenance shud be high. if i m not wrong, dogs from cold climate usually lose their fur density when they live in hot places, so if u want nice coat of fur, better get air cond..

when i was working in a vet earlier this year,i saw a husky that was brought in for emergency medical treatment.
a white coloured husky... (the owner injected a rotweiller's medicine into the husky...overdose,i think) unfortunately, the husky didnt make it...but it was nice seeing a husky in real life. IMO,it should be OK to keep a husky, but make sure that it gets alot of attention.dont leave it outside too long, and maybe to cool it down, bathe it often..(just a thought.. |

![]() Notice how small Piper is compared to Sgt Pepper? btw, Sgt Pepper is my friend's Husky. I have another pic, frontal pic i think but my face is in there...malu wanna post Siberian Husky Breed Standard Working Group General Appearance The Siberian Husky is a medium-sized working dog, quick and light on his feet and free and graceful in action. His moderately compact and well furred body, erect ears and brush tail suggest his Northern heritage. His characteristic gait is smooth and seemingly effortless. He performs his original function in harness most capably, carrying a light load at a moderate speed over great distances. His body proportions and form reflect this basic balance of power, speed and endurance. The males of the Siberian Husky breed are masculine but never coarse; the bitches are feminine but without weakness of structure. In proper condition, with muscle firm and well developed, the Siberian Husky does not carry excess weight. Height--Dogs, 21 to 23½ inches at the withers. Bitches, 20 to 22 inches at the withers. Weight--Dogs, 45 to 60 pounds. Bitches, 35 to 50 pounds. Weight is in proportion to height. The measurements mentioned above represent the extreme height and weight limits with no preference given to either extreme. Any appearance of excessive bone or weight should be penalized. In profile, the length of the body from the point of the shoulder to the rear point of the croup is slightly longer than the height of the body from the ground to the top of the withers. Disqualification--Dogs over 23½ inches and bitches over 22 inches. Head Expression is keen, but friendly; interested and even mischievous. Eyes almond shaped, moderately spaced and set a trifle obliquely. Eyes may be brown or blue in color; one of each or parti-colored are acceptable. Faults--Eyes set too obliquely; set too close together. Ears of medium size, triangular in shape, close fitting and set high on the head. They are thick, well furred, slightly arched at the back, and strongly erect, with slightly rounded tips pointing straight up. Faults--Ears too large in proportion to the head; too wide set; not strongly erect. Skull of medium size and in proportion to the body; slightly rounded on top and tapering from the widest point to the eyes. Faults--Head clumsy or heavy; head too finely chiseled. Stop--The stop is well-defined and the bridge of the nose is straight from the stop to the tip. Fault--Insufficient stop. Muzzle of medium length; that is, the distance from the tip of the nose to the stop is equal to the distance from the stop to the occiput. The muzzle is of medium width, tapering gradually to the nose, with the tip neither pointed nor square. Faults Muzzle either too snipy or too coarse; muzzle too short or too long. Nose black in gray, tan or black dogs; liver in copper dogs; may be flesh-colored in pure white dogs. The pink-streaked "snow nose" is acceptable. Lips are well pigmented and close fitting. Teeth closing in a scissors bite. Fault--Any bite other than scissors. Neck, Topline, Body Neck medium in length, arched and carried proudly erect when dog is standing. When moving at a trot, the neck is extended so that the head is carried slightly forward. Faults--Neck too short and thick; neck too long. Chest deep and strong, but not too broad, with the deepest point being just behind and level with the elbows. The ribs are well sprung from the spine but flattened on the sides to allow for freedom of action. Faults--Chest too broad; "barrel ribs"; ribs too flat or weak. Back--The back is straight and strong, with a level topline from withers to croup. It is of medium length, neither cobby nor slack from excessive length. The loin is taut and lean, narrower than the rib cage, and with a slight tuck-up. The croup slopes away from the spine at an angle, but never so steeply as to restrict the rearward thrust of the hind legs. Faults--Weak or slack back; roached back; sloping topline. Tail The well furred tail of fox-brush shape is set on just below the level of the topline, and is usually carried over the back in a graceful sickle curve when the dog is at attention. When carried up, the tail does not curl to either side of the body, nor does it snap flat against the back. A trailing tail is normal for the dog when in repose. Hair on the tail is of medium length and approximately the same length on top, sides and bottom, giving the appearance of a round brush. Faults--A snapped or tightly curled tail; highly plumed tail; tail set too low or too high. Forequarters Shoulders--The shoulder blade is well laid back. The upper arm angles slightly backward from point of shoulder to elbow, and is never perpendicular to the ground. The muscles and ligaments holding the shoulder to the rib cage are firm and well developed. Faults--Straight shoulders; loose shoulders. Forelegs--When standing and viewed from the front, the legs are moderately spaced, parallel and straight, with the elbows close to the body and turned neither in nor out. Viewed from the side, pasterns are slightly slanted, with the pastern joint strong, but flexible. Bone is substantial but never heavy. Length of the leg from elbow to ground is slightly more than the distance from the elbow to the top of withers. Dewclaws on forelegs may be removed. Faults--Weak pasterns; too heavy bone; too narrow or too wide in the front; out at the elbows. Feet oval in shape but not long. The paws are medium in size, compact and well furred between the toes and pads. The pads are tough and thickly cushioned. The paws neither turn in nor out when the dog is in natural stance. Faults--Soft or splayed toes; paws too large and clumsy; paws too small and delicate; toeing in or out. Hindquarters When standing and viewed from the rear, the hind legs are moderately spaced and parallel. The upper thighs are well muscled and powerful, the stifles well bent, the hock joint well-defined and set low to the ground. Dewclaws, if any, are to be removed. Faults--Straight stifles, cow-hocks, too narrow or too wide in the rear. Coat The coat of the Siberian Husky is double and medium in length, giving a well furred appearance, but is never so long as to obscure the clean-cut outline of the dog. The undercoat is soft and dense and of sufficient length to support the outer coat. The guard hairs of the outer coat are straight and somewhat smooth lying, never harsh nor standing straight off from the body. It should be noted that the absence of the undercoat during the shedding season is normal. Trimming of whiskers and fur between the toes and around the feet to present a neater appearance is permissible. Trimming the fur on any other part of the dog is not to be condoned and should be severely penalized. Faults--Long, rough, or shaggy coat; texture too harsh or too silky; trimming of the coat, except as permitted above. Color All colors from black to pure white are allowed. A variety of markings on the head is common, including many striking patterns not found in other breeds. Gait The Siberian Husky's characteristic gait is smooth and seemingly effortless. He is quick and light on his feet, and when in the show ring should be gaited on a loose lead at a moderately fast trot, exhibiting good reach in the forequarters and good drive in the hindquarters. When viewed from the front to rear while moving at a walk the Siberian Husky does not single-track, but as the speed increases the legs gradually angle inward until the pads are falling on a line directly under the longitudinal center of the body. As the pad marks converge, the forelegs and hind legs are carried straightforward, with neither elbows nor stifles turned in or out. Each hind leg moves in the path of the foreleg on the same side. While the dog is gaiting, the topline remains firm and level. Faults--Short, prancing or choppy gait, lumbering or rolling gait; crossing or crabbing. Temperament The characteristic temperament of the Siberian Husky is friendly and gentle, but also alert and outgoing. He does not display the possessive qualities of the guard dog, nor is he overly suspicious of strangers or aggressive with other dogs. Some measure of reserve and dignity may be expected in the mature dog. His intelligence, tractability, and eager disposition make him an agreeable companion and willing worker. Summary The most important breed characteristics of the Siberian Husky are medium size, moderate bone, well balanced proportions, ease and freedom of movement, proper coat, pleasing head and ears, correct tail, and good disposition. Any appearance of excessive bone or weight, constricted or clumsy gait, or long, rough coat should be penalized. The Siberian Husky never appears so heavy or coarse as to suggest a freighting animal; nor is he so light and fragile as to suggest a sprint-racing animal. In both sexes the Siberian Husky gives the appearance of being capable of great endurance. In addition to the faults already noted, the obvious structural faults common to all breeds are as undesirable in the Siberian Husky as in any other breed, even though they are not specifically mentioned herein. I just got 2 huskies. One is 2 yrs old another is 4 months. They are great dogs. Thanks to Peter from puppy.com.my for the great dogs.
Edit: Forgot to add. Huskies can stay in Malaysia and don't require air-con room. If got better of course but not necessary. They do drink ALOT of water so it is essential to have a bucket of water so that they can soak and drink. They tend to step into the water or sit on it most of the time to cool off. I do notice that they pant alot even while sleeping. So I guess you get the idea how hot they are. This kind of dog is not for everyone. They don't really bark at people and require ALOT of attention. And they are very smart. If you house is empty most of the day, better not keep huskies. Unless you have another dog around as it's companion, then it's ok. They don't like to be alone. Well. this is my opinion. other husky owners may beg to differ. zachtan,
I'm not the one having Sgt Pepper. That's my fren's husky. Are you ready to commit yourself to be a responsible pet owner? a lot of commitment is needed for a pet, esp Husky. Like SImonsayz said, they need companion and i'd like to add one, LOTS of space to run around. If ya have a corner landed house, then it's ok to have huskies. edit: typo This post has been edited by nairud: Nov 14 2005, 10:01 PM |

Yep, what fellow forumer nairud said is very true. You can't really tie them up as they like to run freely. It's not everybody's pet. It's more like a friend to me. Not easy to keep huskies. They seem different than other dogs. More wild I presume.
Here's some picture of my huskies, they seem to move alot and it's kinda hard to get a good picture of them. This is Hero. 2 yrs old. [attachmentid=79122] This is Yuna. She is only 4 months old. I just got a S.Husky recently... Actually, many ppl said that this breed is not so suitable in Malaysia due to hot weather, but i think that if the dog is imported, then mayb it will have some problems adapting to the weather here.. but if its like 2nd or 3rd generation here, i dun think its a problem..
Mine is like around 3mths old, and i can tell u that they are very playful dogs... They need ALOT of exercise and attention, and trust me, they are SMART!! I seldom see ppl taking huskies as pet in penang.. Anyone here has huskies in PG?? |

Huskies can be reared here. All you need to take care is the fur. Don't get those imported ones coz they cannot adopt easily to our climate. Get those locally bred, then make sure your Husky don't go outdoors so often, espcially during hot weather lah. Best if can provide air con for them so their fur stay nice and thick.
Hehehe... I don't have husky but they are really really nice man... I got some nice pictures I took from dog show heheheeh.... wait ah... I go cari and post here. |

QUOTE(jasonckc @ Nov 27 2005, 11:52 PM) i love husky too lah, but for my information they need aircond, hm and it can adapt rite? well that's a good news hehe Huh?? So pitiful.... mjy friend's dad got 4 husky in hong kong, and one day he wat out and there wat a black out and no aircond and all 4 gone to heaven Maybe the best way to prevent this is to shave them?? But they won't look like husky already.. |

My friend's host owns a Siberian Husky.. she's such a beauty!! Anyway, the dog is indoor most of the time and the air cond is turned on when the heat is intolerable. And the owner trims the fur... from what i heard la.

Can live in malaysia lah. But have to keep indoors most of the time according to my friend. But keep in mind though my friend mentioned to me something about their eye sight going blind here due to the heat or the sunlight or something? not sure liao. You must remember we have like balanced 12hr sun and 12 hr night whole year round. whereas in te northern or southern region it's not always day and night. I guess it got something to do wif that or another?!
Check with your local vet to find out more. It would be better. |

My friend's Siberian Husky very terror wan. Got it's own compound to play. Last time keep inside house. 1 night only, cushion torn, walls scratches, shoes koyak, everything that's kain-based sure got lubang... Curtain also!
My friend learnt that it's their nature, natural destroyer. This post has been edited by Pennywise: Dec 23 2005, 12:47 AM |

Well, my neighbour has one for pet. It's still quite young, but man, everytime I look at it my heart melts. It has sea blue iris, and it's super super super tame. The other best thing is that it doesn't bark like those mixed breed dogs we come across most of the time. So cute!!
Btw, if u're curious, this Siberian Husky is kept outdoors with shielding and good ventilation. No need aircond. |

can any1 here tell me the livespan of this siberian husky? i an quite confuse with siberian husky and wolves because in the northen region, sh and volves have something in common..they live in the wild and cold climate, same eating diet..etc etc...
wolfs can normally live longer than sh... so juz wanna know what is the livespan of an average sh? iz it the same as a normal dog? or similiar to a wolf? |

What's the point of having thick fur if msia is so hot. I rather have my dog with thin fur and still a pure bred huskies and won't die of hot climate. Because Msia is hot that's why they shed more fur than normal. So it's normal I guess.

One of my father's friend has a Husky.
It's really beautiful, the eyes and its fur. It has its own space and a fan blowing it during the day time. Kinda luxurious for a dog. |

yup, very nice husky there.. Nice posture, nice markings and nice fur... if mine was so nice...... In Malaysia, unless u put ur husky in air-con room or unless u are staying in genting highlands or cameron highlands, or else the fur won't be so nice.... sigh...

i think now KL in kl, there's a trend where more and more people are getting huskies... Cause when i asked the breeders in Penang, they said most of their huskies pups are sent to KL.. KL got a large demand compared to pg.... I think if u wanna fins huskies in Kl, then it shouldn't be a problem. Just that u need to pay more effort in searching in terms of comparing their prices and also their "quality"..... =)

Guys, just wanna inform u all that be careful when purchasing dogs!!! I got my husky for around 5 mths d, then these few days, my husky suddenly shed ALOT of fur and also the paw will bleed easily.. my sis took the fella to see doctor and the doctor said that the fella's blood got worm, dunno what disease is it.... then he said that its a disease inherited from his parents.. the symptoms will only show when the fella grow bigger... when i buy from the breeder, the fella TOTALLY din mention about this... now the poor fella had 2 injections and also need to constantly take medicine and apply medicated lotion... sigh....

For malamutes, blue eyes are disqualified according to the standards. For huskies, its ok, but malamutes, no.. But for us who just breed for fun and not planning for any tournaments or dog shows, then its ok... Actually, i personally found blue eyes malamute quite attractive... |

like many myths, actually SH can live in malaysia and the fur can be just as nice as those living oversea....i juz bought a husky and will get it by may....cause i'm not free currently to take it...and i bought it from a breeder at rm3.8k.....costly as compared to those spoken here but its always better to buy a dog from breeder instead of pet shop cause u nv know how is the sire and mom of the puppy.....mine at least the generations are champions of MKA show dog championship and i've been to the house to view the dogs as well as the condition to make sure my puppy is healthy and thumbs up!! the breeder told me that there's another breeder selling huskies as well in pg but the standards is different....thats what he told me....

hi guys...
actually, huskies are not all 'ganas' or 'garang' - they are very very very friendly, good with strangers and kids, and don't make a lot of noise. I've got a husky at home who lives indoors (not air-con lah, if aircon means my bills will be sky high!) with a GSD, and he's not at all territorial or anything... if anything, the only similarity with wolves is how they look! they are working dogs, therefore they're quite 'tough' but they need to be worked or exercised plenty - if not they become destructive! (dig, bite, chew)... Balthasar, good luck with finding a good pup... check out the M'sian husky club here ya... http://forums.mypethuskyclub.com/ |

QUOTE(zachtan @ Jan 7 2007, 01:03 PM) A husky will unfortunately not do well in an apartment, unless if you live in a giant loft penthouse... with a greenhouse garden! Not sure if Huskies have a small breed equivalent, the ones i know are: Doberman Pincher (big) <--> Miniature Pincher (small) Giant Schnauzer (big) <--> Miniature Schnauzer (small) English Bulldog (big) <--> Boston Terrier (small) not quite the same but close enough This post has been edited by madmoz: Jan 8 2007, 06:05 PM |

huskies need a lot of space and exercise! an apartment is definitely not enough space for a husky, not just because they love to run around, but also because they are quite big! also, huskies don't do well on their own - they prefer living in a pack, so it's better to have at least two dogs. there are miniature huskies in the US, but I've never heard of them here before... I prefer a full-sized husky to keep me company anytime! |

u gotta be close to ur husky if you want to keep one..always take them out they need to move quite alot..and discipline them properly...they can be quite disobedient at times..
weather wise, it's fine as long as you don't leave them directly in the sun whole day..i think a person would get dehydrated as well.. pros: they're relatively clean..don't stink cons: shed alot sometimes..really alot |

dogs have pack mentality.
so if there is only one, they treat the master as the alpha male and the rest as the pack members. if got two then they become like couple. different oredi. if got 3 then its a pack pet shop ppl say |
