1) Why u need to take Pendidikan seni?- Scholarship. All i know now, the current government r almost broke. Soon or later, even u get 10A+, also use less. The government cannot bear it anymore. If u want know more, u can go to LYN education section or RWI there.

2) If u r rich, yes u can spend on it. I asume u know well in design section here. Good luck for u.

Added on December 28, 2011, 12:12 pmNice artwork & concept.

Hi there, first of all, it does not matter if you take Pend. Seni in high school or not. As long as you continue to have the passion to create art, it is enough.

It is good that you are training some of your technical skills, esp in photoshop. It will help a lot in the coming future when you enter an art college. You should continue to do so and perhaps pick up a few more programs.

About after graduating from high school, don't worry too much about what to specialize in, usually colleges and universities will throw you into foundation year, where they will teach you everything(only touching the surface) of every major so that at the end of your foundation year, you'll have a basic idea of what is what.

Scholarship? I think Star Newspaper also has them scholarships or something. But the govt does provide PTPTN loans, that may help too.

So far your skills with photoshop is quite good, but photoshop is just a tool. If you are really keen, go browse through books that teach composition, human anatomy, lighting, proportions and etc.

Lastly, you can have a read at this :

I had a couple of friends who faced opposition from their families when they wanted to study art or go into art/design college.

One of them insisted that he fulfill his dreams of becoming an artist and resisted his parents. He even moved out of home to live with a friend.By persisting, they relented and allowed him to go in the end. It was sad to see him go through that because he had lots of arguments with his parents.

Another friend's parents also said arts and design no future. He wanted to study g.design very much. In the end, he went to study something else his parents would be happy about, to please his parents. He studied I.T. After working for a few years and saved some money, he told his parents he wanted to go back study full time g.design. That's what he did.

Dreams and passion are worth the stakes, given you're eager and zealous for the things you love to do.

Like many forumers here, I'd say you should really tell your parents about how keen you are in that area, and you should get some details and research about it like what Xiven have mentioned.

I just finished my SPM this year, and before that, I was about to take P.Seni as an extra subject as well, but I realized as a not-so-academically-bright student, I could not juggle many subjects at once. So I didn't take it, and felt satisfied because I get to do more practice in Arts in my free time instead of being in school for the P.Seni lessons.

Unless you're thinking about getting more A's, you're better off without it. Make use of your time to do the things that would make you better in what you love to do.

I'm not so good in studying when i came to form 4, the first 5 months are like hell for me...... i couldn't even interpret what my chemistry teacher was teaching.. (plus, i'm not even interested in learning these subjects.. I work hard for these subjects like physic/chem is just to pass my exam this year).. If i take P.SENI next year.. I scared that i will have lesser time to spend on my study..... (if i fail my SPM or I doesn't get a good result, that means I will have a lesser chance to get into the art&design related uni/college because my parents will definitely PROHIBITS ME from doing that so.. and even forbid me from doing any works related to art&design )

mmm I will think thrice or even consult a teacher in school before taking P.SENI.. rclxub.gif

Next year will be my last year in high school and i couldn't wait for SPM to end...........After my SPM i will burn all my physic, chemistry, additional maths/ any academic reference books and text books.... And i would rather suicide if my dad force me to go to Form 6.

Well, I know the guy who posted the blog post personally, I used to work for him, he is an Executive Producer in this gaming company and is earning 5 digits a month(RM). =)

So tell me how is that no future. And to release a game(or an animated film or a big ass billboard poster) to the public, how does that bring shame? Lol.

Don't back out when it comes to 'your' life dude.

haha yeah, some of the 'old-minded' or 'outdated' parents used to have a mindset that jobs related to art/drawing/design = no future.... they are still living in the past i think........... cry.gif

Impressive artwork!
Well, to share my experience, I love drawing since years ago but I took accounting at TAR college. There's a few reason causing me not to choose art in college. These are my personal reason tho.

First, I was in charge of school magazine design, and I find it really stressing when designing things. Teachers point of view and ours are different. We might find it nice but if teacher don't like it, you have to redo. If I face customers like this for years, I'm afraid I will lost interest on arts and trust me, it's very stressful when a person ask you to design something without giving you actual theme or concept, and when u finally design something they complain this and that.

Besides, I kinda feel keeping drawing as hobby will be more suitable for me. Reality is always harsh and based on research I did before I entered college, I find that art-related field is a difficult path. It has future but u need to struggle much before u actually success.(based on a few art pro i asked)

As for scholarship, don't hope for it. 2 years ago, I applied for JPA scholarship and I had 8A+ 2A but I didn't get even local university. If your family budget is tight, you can always visit TAR college. With 8A and above you'll get 100% scholarship and PTPTN can cover your living cost. I lived till today with my PTPTN loan.
Feel free to PM me if u have any question =)

I understand and this is what I'm worry about too.. boss/customer's demands.. e.g.. cry.gif

I'm now a part of the school graduation magazine design team too, currently not facing any tough or stressing problems yet.. but I guess these kinds of problems will emerge this year but I will try my best to cope with it.. This year gonna be a tough year for me.... sweat.gif

and thanks for the information about TAR college. I will check or maybe take a visit to the college if I have time, thank you! rolleyes.gif
and now I'm aiming for multimedia design diploma&degree courses (more to degree because my mom told me that Degree rank > Diploma.. diploma is just a cert, degree holders might have more job opportunities!) notworthy.gif

wow..very good job this one..u have a really good skill now since u are only 16..
but then still there're a few parts can be improved for my opinion..a lot ppl tend to only manipulate this n that but forget about shadow and light. esp ur human, traffic light and angels..they need a drop shadow on the ground..as for lighting, traffic light will be fine if ur heaven is in evening sunset mood..but now it looks very bright, a lil bit greenish but traffic light is in yellowish and dark mood.

but for me traffic light might be uncessary in this piece..it might look better when the person is walking towards heaven and hell without the traffic light which makes it look a bit weird..doesnt match the whole idea..

but still very very thumbup.gif

Thanks, yeah I always forget about the shadow and lightning, I did some re-lightning touch up, but about the shadow, I totally forgot about it.. doh.gif blush.gif
About the heaven, I brighten it to increase the contrast between the 'hell' part and 'heaven' part (this is how I think it will work). And yes I do think about removing the traffic light but at last I didn't do it (don't know why but my "art sixth sense" tell me not to do it... just couldn't really explain why LOL although I know putting the traffic light in will make the art looks a bit of unbalanced.)
anyway, nod.gif
Thank you for your constructive comments!! I would like to hear more c&c comments like this from the forumers..

And I got my first Daily Deviation on deviantART.

Umm, just EXPERIMENT, PRACTICE, EXPERIMENT and PRACTICE more, and don't forget to look into other artist's artwork as well to get more inspirations and motivations! smile.gif

About the 'right' feeling, I couldn't explain here.. (because it's really hard and abstract for me to explain in words.. maybe it's something that you should find out yourself? smile.gif Good luck.)

For this artwork there's no message or figurative meaning behind it.. rolleyes.gif My school graduation magazine head editor wants me to produce this artwork to be used as a background for a section. He gave me a chinese poem and wants me to express it out in picture form.. lul, so I just simply made this..... not so willing to do because.. I have more personal conceptual artwork to be finished ASAP!

By the way, this is my design for the penang bridge marathon design competition..

Thanks!! I will work more on lighting! Oh damm... I just couldn't figure out why I always include something extra lu;l! Maybe that's one of my weakness.. Gotta find a solution to it.. unsure.gif

And yep, I used the dodge and burn tool! Sometimes I would just add another layer, clip mask it and start to repaint the lighting of the whole object.. it depends for me.. haha, as I'm still "experimenting" and playing with the tools in PS! brows.gif

haha..yeah..adding unnecessary things into ur works doesnt make it looks even better..but instead if u cant control well, the result is even worse. =)

i see..somehow u can use the dodge and burn to slightly refine ur lighting problem too..haha

These artworks are formed from edited stock photos, most of the stock photos are from DeviantART.com (a lot of suppliers over there), if you're interested in the breakdowns/step by step for my previous works.. You can go to this link - http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2...05019569&type=3
smile.gif This method is called the photomanipulation, or Matte Painting. You can google up for more information..

I've tried combining this method with digital painting method.. works well (take a look at my newest work - Moonlight, which included the usage of tablet and a few stock photo..) .. still experimenting duh! tongue.gif

btw how did ur art in deviantart get so much recognition?

I mean in the early stage...was it depend purely on ur art beauty?

Im more than agree that u got awesome skill.

but maybe just in case u did something else to promote ur art.

so I would like to know if u dont mind. smile.gif

laugh.gif Well, I started submitting my arts into groups when I joined DeviantART (thru the help of my senior who invited me to join deviantART). I've participated in some community contests and challenges too.. I met a lot of new friends from all around the world in the forum chat room, we exchanged opinons, ideas and even techniques. I got a lot of new watchers after my first Daily Deviation.. blush.gif people eventually suggest my art to be included in groups and this gave me more exposure..

And I do check out all the deviant artists which are on my watch list on a weekly basis. icon_rolleyes.gif
I've been inactive in deviantART for a few months already.. (Lesser interaction with my watchers sad.gif , didn't manage to reply all the comments on my profile and art.. accumulated more than 1k feedback messages.. )

In a nutshell, the best way to promote your art in deviantART is by joining groups and take part in more community/ DeviantART contest.. Good luck!! smile.gif

smile.gif Well I see.. I'm not really good in commercial design.. cry.gif especially when I need to design based on the client's taste instead of my own ideas and execution style.

Added on July 13, 2012, 10:09 pmanyway, got myself a tablet finally.. a tablet WHICH BELONGS TO me.. TT_TT wacom bamboo pen&touch small.. I'm not sure whether I should continue to do more matte paintings/manips in the future or move on to Digital Painting.

This is a showcase of my own artworks, mainly digital arts and photo-manipulations which I have completed during the school holiday or when I have free time. I've started using photoshop since November 2011.I will be sitting for SPM exam this year so I will not be having much time to make artworks.

Hi Ed, nice tweak but I think there are still room for more improvements I think!!

I've actually tried to increase the depth of field by brushing up some blurred tree branches (with green leaves) on the top right side and some dead tree branches on the top left but it won't really work, it just makes the whole artwork looks weird in a way! Haha! Guess I'm not that good yet, but yours branches look quite natural, and you keep mentioning abt depth of field like since last year, I always kept that in mind until now and try to improvise whenever I have the chance lol! And ya lighting is another challenging task, it will be awesome if I can integrate my works with 3D software for lighting & shadow projection. blink.gif

btw, I just finished building a website for myselff., now only lacking one page haven't finish , I'll use it as my backup site to store all my works.

thanks for the encouragement.. I'm not really good in 3D yet, but I'm keen on it and want to put more effort into it. Still, my laptop is restricting me from doing so.. (laptop specs sucks!) I'm saving up for an upgrade currently (maybe by this end of year will have enough fund).. should I go for MAC(apple)? Lots of my friends told me that designers used mac... but seriously I have 0 exp and have been using windows for YEARS.. don't really feel like changing but stil.. rclxub.gif
