Hi bro. Sorry missed yr post earlier. From what i know (and i've been known to be wrong!! hahaha), it's only out in HK next week on 17 Jan 2012.

If u want the HK-version Viva MetalBox™, let me know. Don't think it's going to be a Steelbook™ though .....
*
Bro, check out the pics at xtremeplace on the spore version. Looks like steel book. Good price too. Funny how the release date is earlier .

Edit: corrected auto spell

Im surprised. Hopefully no AQ or PQ will get undermined. I thought they scrap of using 25gb for big production movies edi? Hmm..  wink.gif But I will buy it if price is right. This movie is good.

I really depends on the length of the movie, the dynamic range during the scenes both for amount of video and audio information. The advanced codecs for video, ie AVC, VC-1 and the right tools and the right person who is doing the tranfer for the retail version can properly enable a transfer that will fit the 25GB disc. Also the compression tools available for audio (lossless) is also very efficient these days and it really depends on the amount that is going on during that particular scene at that particular time. Its important that the person who is doing the transfer knows how to set the correct bitrates during each scene.

Fantastic piece of animation work. The attention to details and realism is truly mesmerizing .....

Motion capture has come a long way.

BTW, if anyone in Penang, that has a Region B capable player and wants a free Dances With Wolves (Extended Edition, 7.1 DTS HD MA - German Edition), pls contact me. I hv the Kinowelt edition that has errors in the subwoofer channel (the movie does not have much info in the sub channel anyway) without a cover, just the disc. Kinowelt replaced the disc with a later pressing. Great for those who do not use a 5.1/7.1 system and watch it 2 channel.

I did not feel there was anything wrong with the previous audio encode (Dolby True HD and PCM) so not sure why the need to move to DTS HD MA.

DTS most the time sound better than Dolby and this is the way to earn more money, people will double dip on it.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

Just picked up Pocahontas/Pocahontas II from Artist Gallery in Penang.

1 disc edition with both movies. Tested for a couple of minutes for both the movies. Pretty good if u ask me. Decent price.

Both DTS HDMA 5.1.

These are resized pictures, did not want to take up bandwidth

Pocahontas (back)

Pocahontas (front)

Forgive the photos, taken from phone.

I scanned the movies with BDInfo.

The 1st movie has an average video bitrate of 21978kbps, the 2nd movie 20032kbps. Good enuf for animation. Both are pretty short. Audio is 3783kbps for the 1st one and 2822kbps for the 2nd one. Both 48kHz/24bit.

There are a few extras. Did not check them out. The disc size is ~ 42GB.

I added some specs to the last post.

The bitrates are identical to the 2 disc versions from Europe (Russia)

Don't mean to scare you but you should worry as so far I have 2 titles out of around 10 that I opened so far are spoilt that I bought about 4 yrs back.  The thing is I still have majority of BDs still unopen as they were purchased quite sometimes back and don't think will get Amazon replacement anyway.... rclxub.gif
*
If the disc is faulty, there is a possibility u can get a replacement (and it is a known issue).

I had a similar issue where I bought the Godfather Trilogy from Amazon UK but realized only after 1.5yrs that Part 2 was faulty and only worked halfway. It was a known problem with the initial Trilogy boxset. Contacted Amazon and they replaced the whole boxset for me.

So again, if its a known issue, Amazon will refund but it depends.

I recently watched The Art of Flight which is a documentary on snowboarding. It has very good PQ, AQ is fantastic and on some scenes the LFE is phenomenal....It was an interesting documentary cum action sports film. It makes very good use of the 7.1 Dolby TrueHD track and there are a lot of scenes where the soundstage literally feels like 360 degrees. I enjoyed this movie and really admire the guts these guys have to do what they do.

Heads up, the 4 Disc Avengers (3D, Blu Ray) is now only USD19.99 at Amazon.

Very good price for a combo IMO.
