Added on February 28, 2012, 4:42 pmiPhone 4S but not durable at all, ok u can get a casing but the screen is not really protected. iPhone's glass is not really tough compared to the gorilla glass of most droids, so since u have 2.8k budget...u can buy the phone and still have some spare $ enough for maybe 2 glass replacements

If u think that's too troublesome, can go for Sony xperia S or get a Nokia lumia 800 now. But resale value still 4S better by a lot, so I hope u will not look at my 1st paragraph as a joke

Got screen problem(not crack) after u drop, some casings can't even help.
Other than this, it's ok.

But I think 4 days (bulibuli said 4-7 days) can, for slight usage. If idle almost all the time, I think 1 week also possible.

Some defy users in defy thread there got screen prob wor...

Wait for HTC one X. If not then samsung galaxy S2 non-G version, AP set. If must be ori set, Sony xperia S / Motorola RAZR / HTC sensation XE(not that recommended as HTC sense 3.x will slow it down, but it's cheaper )

Anyway, SE xperia mini (AP set) is your best choice.

Heard it's gonna be RM2099 . If u want quad core with memory card slot can consider LG optimus 4x HD or Huawei asdend D quad, but the LG and Huawei would likely suffer in resale value.

Omnia W not officially available here, I think lumia 710 or xperia arc will be good for your dad !
Lumia 710 for overall smooth performance, arc for bigger screen.

Edit: Oh wait, HTC HD7 got big screen+smooth performance. I think suitable for him, only if u can still find a new 1 and also if u dun mind the old GPU.

Actually there may be some blackberries that are suitable for u, but I dun know much about blackberry. Hopefully other people can help u in this, hmm.. maybe can research on bb 9700 bold 2 ?

Yeah, since u just need wifi and whatsapp . Oh the xperia U and galaxy ace 2 are the most recommended there, since they're on dual core. It should mean faster internet browsing as well. But only if u can wait...

Wow the 3G/3Gs would be more than 2 years old? U ok with that? If so, 2nd hand SE xperia x10.

HD2 good for modding since it can run on multiple OS (WP7, android, windows mobile and others), but already stopped production so u only can get a used 1.

HD7 mainly for big screen, lumia 710 for better proc+GPU. All 3 are ok ...

Since u have 1k budget, we'll recommend the best below 1k. The galaxy Y is cheap but wat u pay is wat u get, it is still using the old chipset so it can get laggy sometimes. If u want cheap, can try SE xperia mini. At least it has the new chipset + better GPU. But its screen is just 3", not sure if it's enough for u. So to balance things up, we recommended those with decently sized screen + good speed since u have 1k budget. But it's your choice

Ori sets are warrantied by official distributors, AP sets are warrantied by AP companies. Official distributors will likely give better service compared to AP. Some people sent their phone to AP company for warranty, few months only get back.

It's still using the old chipset, at around RM500 better go for SE xperia mini.

I vote for pro. Decently sized screen + good camera, music should be okay as well.

Wait for HTC one X, if can't then HTC sensation XE.
