Checking in, with news that I probably, probably won't get my new snare anytime soon. D:
*
what snare are you getting bro? hmm.gif smile.gif

btw regarding your last post,i think it all goes down to how much one can apply on a real kit with minimum practice equipment.some may be able to practice with only pads and with the combination of imagination, creativity and coordination they can spread what they learnt on pads onto a kit.that's not my case, because i think i'm more of that by-heart muscle-memory type of drummer.so from what i've experienced, i think one can never go wrong with a real kit...or an e-kit at least if the environment one is living in doesn't allow one to have a real kit.

you're talking about Chris Adler of LOG right? don't get me wrong,he's my favourite drummer hands down but i think he can be more than that if he started earlier.what i'm trying to say is instead of being godlike,he can be like (godlike)³.one example is our own Arthur Kam..godlike in the making. smile.gif

definitely mesh heads!

QUOTE(brokenbomb @ Dec 26 2011, 02:02 PM)
mesh all the way.

seriously no wonder some of u guys hate bentley so much.

first i ordered up a vision vsx tom 16x16 inch. after 6 months, they say they salah order, instead of 16x16, they ordered up an 18x16. so i ask them "eh? 18x16? so 18 inch diameter tom lah ni?"

and they say, nono, its still in 16, cuma US put length 1st then diameter. ohh so i thought, it is still 16x18, instead of 18x16.

but when the thing arrived at my local music shop, !@#$^%^$%, the supposedly 16 inch floor tom was an 18 inch! mak oi punya besar!  so i was right! it is 18x16! 18 diameter and 16 length! not the other way around.

guys, can a 18 inch floor tom sounds like 16 inch floor tom? i mean when doing the tuning, cuz i dont wanna wait another 6 months just to change the size sad.gif

oh and screw u bentley. screw u.
*
not sure about that...never used an 18 inch before, but theoretically i think you can tune it like a 16 but it has to be tighter la on an 18 if you want to make it sound like a 16...if im not mistaken la....hehehe

bro ko org sabah ka? di kk ada suda ka music shop yg dedicated utk drum jak? sbab sy tgk mcm teda jak music shop yg dedicated utk drum d area kk ni...

Hmm.. You'll have to consider a lot of factors. For some reason, in Malaysia, "exclusive" distributorship is a big thing.

But first:

There is no doubt that there is demand nowadays, for a "drum" shop, but whether it'll do well, remains to be seen.

You'll probably need the big brands, for the cymbals, which means getting a dealership (which costs a lot) from places like Yamaha (Sabian) and Bentley (Zildjian) and so on, so forth. I don't think smaller brands like UFIP or TRX and even Istanbul or Soultone would do too well at first, perhaps you could bring it in later on.

Drumset brands are also mostly taken up by "exclusive" distributors as well. So, you might want to look into opening up your shop for used sets as well.

Unless, you want to make this shop an exclusive shop, that caters to pros only? But then you wouldn't probably do too well.

I would love to see Battlefield, SJC, UFIP, Brady, Axis and Trick on Malaysian soil someday smile.gif
Which head is it? smile.gif
*
yeah Axis and Trick are real rarities over here...oh n i would really love to see Sleishmann over here.hehe.no other options other than overseas.if got 2nd oso hard to find.talking bout smaller brands for cymbals,it reminds me of 1 music shop that used to deal Bosphorus in KK.wonder why'd they closed down.. hmm.gif

Not this year biggrin.gif HAHAHAHA! Last year got, this year too busy :/
Anyway, I set up and tuned drums for one of my clients today (my school tongue.gif).

Basically, they ordered two sets of the Ludwig Element kit with Evans heads, and I threw in some cymbals and Gibraltar hardware, cause it was quite a big order, with a lot of other audio equipment including amps and mics, etc.

So, I set up one of the kits today, and mixed it in with the previous set (Pearl Forum sad.gif )

And now the entire kit goes like this. Its not the best stuff, but for a school, I have to admit its already pretty okay lah. FOR A SCHOOL. xD

Cymbals: Stagg EXK 14' hi hats, Pearl 14'  hi-hats (side hats biggrin.gif ), Stagg EXK 20' ride , Pearl 18' crash ride, Meinl HCS 12' china, Stagg EXK 16' crash, Meinl HCS 16' crash.

Drums (from left to right): Pearl Forum 16' floor, Pearl Forum 14 x 6.5 steel snare, Ludwig Element 14 x 6.5 snare, Element 10' tom, Element 12' tom, Element 22' bass drum, Element 13' floor tom, Element 16' floor tom.

The Element toms are outfitted with Evans Hydraulics (its durable, will last long, and super easy to tune, making crap drums sound decent biggrin.gif), the bass drum has a coated EMAD (again, very durable, and doesn't ring, with a consistent, if not dynamic tone - perfect for hard rock and metal, actually), and the snare has a Power Centre Reverse Dot, coated (which when matched with a relatively deep snare like this, gives a very fat sound).

Pictures soon, maybe. HEHEHEHE.
*
what do you think about evans hydraulics on a snare drum? i was thinking bout changing the batter head to replace the remo black-x i have on it...i just felt that it's just the wrong head for my snare.tried everything tuning-wise,my snare still rings like s**t and not to mention the rattle that it caused on the wires...gosh..

I might be able to get bass drum mute. biggrin.gif
No way bro. Not at all. Hydraulics for toms, yes, not for your snare. AT ALL. xD
Try Onyx, if you want a dark sound, perhaps? Double ply.

Anyway, have you tried putting rings on your head for the overtones? And get ProSound snare wires, or something tight?

Added on December 31, 2011, 4:30 pmSorry for the horrible handphone pictures, but yeah. This is the school kit that I was talking about a few posts earlier that I set up yesterday. Playing at my school next year is going to be a blast! biggrin.gif

yeah tried muffling already, but im opting for a change of head instead and see where it takes me to..i just like to play open n oyeah, gotta love that warm, dark sounding snare.hehe.how bout evans genera dry or HD dry?saw some review and it seems that they have some kind of holes and muffler built underneath to control the ring.im using a mapex mpx birch 13x6 btw. biggrin.gif

btw is evans onyx similar to remo black suede emperor?

that's the kit for your school?damn..the kit for my residential college doesn't even comes close! ohmy.gif

it measure the tension of the drum skin, u actually achieve similar result like listening to the skin when you tune each of the lugs

you doesn't need it if you can tune/listen very fast and accurate. Same like some ppl use tuner to tune guitar while some can just strum and tune~

I used the tama tension watch but I believe it is same with drum dial
*
oh isit?would really like to get one if like that...since i tune damn slow. tongue.gif but then the price still too much la... sweat.gif but then what to expect rite...its a precision device.

i think there's not much difference between learning yourself and getting a teacher...everything is online nowadays right?internet is like one big university ody lorrr....just that you gotta have self discipline la cuz there's no one to instruct you to do this and that.no rigid syllabus.but yea..having a teacher quite nice oso.got org to marah2 you and tell you wrong things you did.hehehe.jst my 2 cents..

btw,personally i prefer DIY.smile.gif

I disagree mate smile.gif Different drummers use different setups lah, true, but you also have to recognize that there is a different tone and pitch in them smile.gif
I pity you mate :/ I usually don't buy or deal for music schools cause of that very reason.
yeah agree. thumbup.gif

Anyway guys, I'm thinking of selling my Ludwig Epic; used for only one recording session, and its been stored away (except for the bass drum, that I pull out once in a while for gigs) ever since.
If anyone is interested, let me know.
I'll need to find out the price of the drums I want to get before deciding. biggrin.gif

I don't understand. xD But like at smaller gigs where there isn't a house kit (or the house kit sucks) I'll usually just bring my bass drum and my snare drum biggrin.gif I'm used to playing with that set up already, or with a floor tom and a kick as well as a snare. Minimalist lah. BUT OF COURSE MORE IS BETTER. MOAR.
I'll recommend you the Evans Power Centre Reverse Dot head. RM58, buy from me. xD
I kinda decided liao. HAHAHAHA! If you want, come and tell me lah. No rush though.
But I might be moving back to my old place and converting my room into a semi-studio, but I'll only have space for a small kit, so either ways I think I ought to sell this baby off lah.
So, here goes. Ludwig Epic (can configure to be three rack toms and one floor tom or two rack toms and two floor toms) Natural Blackburst Lacquer finish.
I'm putting this up for you guys first x) HAHAHAHA!

hey, do you guys put something inside the snare drum to muffle it?
*
usually i dont.i prefer to muffle externally cuz its more flexible.you may or may not need muffling depending on the musical application.but some do put internal muffling inside the snare drum though...but 1 thing bout that is,if its not built-in,you may need to drill holes on your shell for that internal muffler to be attached.

btw do any 1 of you guys know which shop in malaysia that carries Wuhan?

yea very troublesome.i think it's only suitable who loves the dry sound of snare regardless of the music application...or only for studio works perhaps?
