Thx for your analysis.
I guess no 2 is better.
Anyone try to use Essential card to pay ptptn? hope can enjoy the 0.6% cash back.
*
You need to double check the MCC code of PTPN and whether HLB counts this as government. For example, Pos Online is Postal Services but it is categorises as government by HLB and ineligible for cashback.

I use HLB Fortune. Was a Wise user. I definitely hit RM2k per month through recurring payments like condo fees, gym membership and car maintenance etc, which I can't get 1% cashback from any of my other cards.

The choice between Essential and Wise depends on your spending pattern. Fortune also has annual bonus above certain thresholds, so that's a plus point.

i just got the RM1800 rebate on last month and now my real cash got over RM2300 on the very first year~ at first thought the yearly accumulative is based on 1 Jan to 31 Dec because i received the yearly summary on Dec statement and wasted the expenditure from Sep to Dec 2015 but luckily they gave me the RM1800 payout on Sep 2016 statement and the yearly total expenses is based on the starting date of my credit card~ Thank you Hong Leong Bank for having the very best credit card in the world with an approximately 1.96% cash back on my other expenses excluding petrol, dining, grocery and online purchasing~
*
That's very good information - thanks for sharing! I'm halfway through my first year, and building up slowly. Normally try to hit RM5k a month, but this month is higher at RM9k. Can't wait for my annual bonus smile.gif. Its a great card for cashback on stuff that normally doesn't give anything.

yup, especially in a year whereby i need to buy a lot of home appliances for my new house~ 2% extra cash is a lot as compare to essential 1% and others credit card 0.3%
*
Quick question - do you withdraw your real cash or keep it there to accumulate interest? I've been transferring mine to Wise every month but will soon be cancelling Wise and thinking of what to do.

since sep 2016 onwards, government body transcation not entitled to get 1% cash back
the officer told me but the bank even didn't inform us about this new term and condition
*
Exactly - I found out the hard way too. I lost out my whole RM50 for that month, because I spent RM5,000, but less than RM2,000 on qualifying transaction.

They said they published it in the "announcements" section of their website. I checked and it is so difficult to find. They didn't even bother updating their TNC.

My situation even worse! I paid my AEON CC via Pos Online (2.12% charge), which was considered government transaction.

How tou know that transaction considered as gov transaction? AEON cs told u that transaction is gov transaction?
*
Its got nothing to do with AEON. It is because the payment was made through POS Online.

I called up Hong Leong Bank and asked why I didn't get cashback for the month even though I hit RM5,000. They said that RM3,000+ was POS ONLINE, which is recorded as government spending, hence ineligible for any cashback.

Sorry but I beg to differ that 1.96% cash back card is the "best credit card in the world" although you really mean it. With Aeon/ Aeon Big CC combo with PBVS / UOB YOLO, one can get 4.4% cash back excluding petrol. Literally, Aeon/Aeon Big CC or with 6% CB for online transactions would be the "best" combo in Malaysia in my opinion. If it is petrol, then this combo would give a 4% CB.
*
I agree that the combo approach is the most flexible and "best" for most people.

HLB Fortune is great if you're lazy and just want one card for swiping all expenses, above RM2k per month.

For me, it is a "miscellaneous" expenditure card, just in case I exhausted all other options.

Hi all Sifu
I would like to know

Government spending not entitle for CB(jz realise last month)
But are the government spending taken into account of yearly spend(for the annual reward)?
*
This is a question I am dying to find the answer to. Anyone got an answer based on real experience?

Technically the annual reward is cash back too right? So it would be risky to assume that government spend is counted.

I personally don't dare to try even if CS can give an answer.

Hi, I would like to know is it the fortune card RM1800 rebate is based on yearly total expenses spend on 12 month or december? if my card is approved on april.
*
I recall reading previous posts in this thread which mentioned that it is 12 months and not calendar year. Can search back a few posts - but that is what I clearly recall.

This card seems to have been removed from HLB card selections.
*
I can still see it:

Personal => Credit Cards => Choose a Credit Card => Cashback => Fortune Card

https://www.hlb.com.my/main/personal/cards/fortune-card

BUT, it looks like a new card with a paywave feature right? My current card is black and gold squarish patterns, and no paywave.

I am going to swipe big amount (furnitures & appliances), i think this is a good card to apply right? 1% (min spend RM2k/month, capped at RM5k/month) + RM280 cash if spend above RM38k per year, did i miss any important t&c?
*
I have this card and its pretty good for categories of spending that normally don't get cashback (like buying things from normal retail shops). Plus, sometimes HLB has pretty good promotions, so its useful for those.

Note that Government transactions and JOMPay won't earn cashback.

Managed to hit the first threshold (RM38,000) only for first year, and got my yearly cashback smile.gif.

This is a great card for miscellaneous spending.

the yearly real cash earning credit to credit card or we need to redeem it same as monthly rebate?

when the yearly real cash earning granted?
is it exactly 12 months? or need to wait longer?

how to know how much is spent? keep track ourself? might calculate wrongly if do it ourself.

i willl swipe more than the amount specified in case wrongly calculation....
*
I keep track myself and just use the sum of my monthly statements. I spent 45k this year, so I was very confident it would be above RM38k. Shouldn't be difficult to track if you just use monthly statement totals.

nope, cashback is not.
*
Yepp - cashback isn't taxable income. It's almost like a "discount" / reward from your expenditure.

The issue about using personal card to swipe company expenses is that your company may get queried (from both an audit and tax perspective) on why there are lots of "related party transactions" and whether such expenses are personal or corporate in nature.

Although I'm cashback crazy, I would err on the side of caution and keep them separate.

Thinking whether I should get this card, am getting fed up with the measly 0.6% from my HLB Essential card. Most of the months , I don't hit the RM5000 to get the 1% CB. But with the Fortune card, I would benefit more.
*
QUOTE(laymank @ Oct 30 2017, 08:26 AM)
why won't you consider maybank FC Barcelona?
*
Excellent advice - this is also what I've done. Not much use for my Fortune anymore.
