Get Limestones
And pls take notes on the white spots of the stones, mostly that's where the alkaline from and it's reaching 8.0 by using AZOO pH tester.

QUOTE(arrow @ May 23 2013, 12:09 AM) I have all those shrimps , all keep in different setup , so PH also vary, it depend on the substrate i'm using cos the soil buffer the water ph. Wao. That's pretty in details. Thanks arrowFor neocaridina shrimps don't look at the PH first(as they adapt to different PH range) but the GH and TDS , but the think is lot of ppl don't want to invest in an TDS pen. So at least get an rm20++ GH tester . Neocaridina shrimps(Fire Red Shrimp, Blue Jelly and Yellow Shrimp) live well in higher GH and TDS water in the range of GH 6~8 and TDS of 200++. If you want exact figure i can list them down. Fire red tank - PH < 6(new benibachi soil) , GH 8 , TDS 240+-. Blue Jelly PH 6.8 , GH 7, TDS 300++ Fire Yellow PH7.2 , GH 6, TDS 210+-. They all breeding. But that doen't mean other setup won't work just that you may need a range you can refer/fall back to. Caridina shrimps type like CRS/CBS , King Kong is much diifferent and complex the requirement and they do picky on PH level beside GH & TDS. I just bought 1 litre H.E.L.P Advanced Soil which specific for Shrimp. Hope it helps for better breeding for shrimps. And yes, water test kits are crucial for better shrimps and plants! Any specific brands that you guys using most of the time? |

QUOTE(arrow @ May 23 2013, 01:31 AM) H.E.L.P Advanced Soil(Shrimps) i use before, make sure you cycle it throughly, for this soil also leech ammonia by tons like ADA soil. Yeah. Expected will be 1 and a half to 2 months for the tanks of recycling. Hope my EHEIM Pickup 45 will help for the recycling.although shorter period. |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ May 26 2013, 11:29 PM) Bought all of them together... means not graded properly? Yeah, this happens sometimes. But some LFS are separating cherry and fire red. In fact it's quite easy to differentiate Cheery and Fire Red, same goes with the price as well. LoLIt's hard to tell cos they shops here like to keep the shrimps with black background, black soil and purple light. |

QUOTE(arrow @ May 27 2013, 12:28 AM) ADA Africana the orange soil, unlike ADA amazonia soil, won't leech that much ammonia but buffer ph much lower then amazonia, This solve my curiousity about ADA Africana orange soil you can use coral stone to buffer UP the ph and also increase the GH and TDS as well. Just 2 to 3 pcs the size of old rm0.50 coin in your filter is enough. Don't use coral sand in your substrate, cos it is almost impossible to remove later, use coral stone better. Cherry is one of the the most hardy shrimps around and cheap too , so will act better as a beginner shrimps. Don't put yamato shrimps and flying fox in your shrimps to eat algae , both will attack your cherry if they have the chance, just use otto fish will do or snails. |

QUOTE(GottliebDaimler @ Jun 12 2013, 12:09 PM) My cherry shrimps has been a year old, some die, some newborns. However, the adults are not as big as the ones I see in LFS. Although I know it could be nutrient deficiency, the difference between the adults are quite big. I only feed pellet to them. What about food nutrients for your shrimps? and your water pH, Gh and etc ... |

QUOTE(arrow @ Jun 18 2013, 11:56 AM) ~Cover filter inlet with sponge or fine mesh prevent them to be suck in. Discovered the shrimplets last night, just minutes before i went to bed. So it's kinda last minutes for me to prepare, anyway just bought marina breeding box during lunch time. Definately will cover most of the issues that might occur. ~Don't over excited and overfeed, ~remove big fish if any. ~water change 10% and careful not to suck them in. You can divert the water to a bucket first before flush out so you could check any of your grandchild there. Torch light will be handy. it looks 90% like a male baby.. where the other shrimplets? Estimated will be around 5- 10 shrimplets, is this normal? lol |
