Dear Forumers,
Just simple and noob question. what is the different between value VS performance RAM "INTERM OF VALUE FOR MONEY".
Let say if i buy value ram ddr3 1333 4GB, i can get around RM 60/unit.
But for Performance RAM ddr3 1600/1800 the price will be RM 150 / 4GB(2 pieces)

If i buy VALUE RAM 8 GB (4GBx2) = RM 120
But with this amount i can get only 4 GB for Performance RAM

Which one better?

8GB value ram cost me RM 120 OR 4GB performance ram cost me RM 150

TQ

Stock speed in comparison no big difference,if you want to clock it high there will be the advantage at performance ram.

TS this will depend on your usage

if ur gaming, typing, watching movie, surfing web, printing and all that stuff.. u will not benefit from the performance RAM

only if ur benchmarking, heavy overclocking etc will performance RAM be of use to you

Some performance RAM, their timings are much tighter than normal RAMs. But the difference in stock condition is negligible. But if you're into Overclocking, it'll be totally different ball game!

get valueram 1333 is already enough. the performance kit kinda overrated. not much difference. google it out for benchmarks

so its mean value ram 8gb is better than performance ram 4gb?

Unless you are using AMD Llano APU, which higher RAM clocks = better GPU performance.
if not, get value ram, is simple as that.

if you are asking this question, means you dunno or not sure of what kind of advantage can those expensive ram will give you.

then you better go with normal ram to save money and invest other parts like graphics, processor or better mouse keyboard
i dunno what kind of software you are going to utilize 8GB of memory anyway rclxub.gif

ValueRam is kingston model name, althought oftenly ppl refer to normal ram.

i know..but now i just want to ask the opinion of all forumers interm of value for money.i opt for 8gb so that i can make dual channel ram.if i buy 2gbx2,just waste my ram slot.better 4gbx2.its not expensive summore..rm 120 only.

To achieve higher scores in benchmarks = Performance sticks.
Daily use/Gaming = Value Ram.

Added on December 20, 2011, 8:49 pmIf you have money, then go for 8GBs.
Doesn't matter its single channel or dual, you can't notice the speed.

My rule regarding this matter is that if you had to ask you probably don't need it. It is the truth and you will definitely not find a OC United member to come here and ask whether it is worth the money to get performance RAM because for what they do, performance RAM makes a difference.

high speed ram is not just for benchmark & show-off, pls cut that crap ppls
it depends on the owner's knowledge to make it shine internally or externally.

you dont have to go with 2x2gb bro. pick 1x4gb
then see whether you need another 4gb to buy which is available all over the market (shop) since u say it is not expensive rite..

you can start enjoy playing pc, then slowly learn to adjust the clock of normal ram until reaching limits.
by that time, u might become regulars in intel /amd overclock section.
good luck in shopping icon_rolleyes.gif

specifically - overclocking of RAM.

overclocking of processor, any value RAM also fine.

+1 to this too.

some application improve with RAM setting, like say folding@home where higher speed and tighter timings can boost PPD.

It's a good question, actually. Tom's Hardware answered it a few years ago:

Tom's Ultimate RAM Speed Tests
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ram-sp...tests,1807.html

Tom says: "For the vast majority of users, the difference between mainstream and high-end memory turns out to be extremely small."

The tests showed a miniscule boost in performance - 1-3% according to benchmarks. And this was within the margin of error for the benchmark tests, so the boost might have been even less!

So stick with the value/mainstream RAM. It is wonderfully cheap these days. Spend your money on something else that will definitely boost performance, like a better graphics card (If you're a gamer) or a better processor (if you're crunching complex spreadsheets, editing videos, etc).

Also, don't install more than 4GB of RAM if you are using 32-bit Windows (includes XP, Vista, 7). 32-bit Windows AKA Windows X86 can only utilise a maximum of 4GB - this is a software addressing limit; there is no 32-bit way to get past this. The only way you can use more than 4GB of physical RAM is to use 64-bit Windows AKA Windows X64.

high performance ram performs slightly better than mainstream.
plus high performance ram got some extra goodies like heat spreader biggrin.gif
i just use Team Elite ram 4GB and i'm a hardcore gamer. lol

actually it depends on how you spend it. u got money go for it.

One, hardcore gamer doesn't mean hardware expert. I know a hardcore gamer that knows very little about hardware and his philosophy is to buy the most expensive hardware. Sure, it works, for the people who can afford it...

Two, performance RAM have a terrible performance/price ratio. If you can choose between performance RAM or a CPU/GPU one step higher, take the CPU/GPU because you'll get much better performance.

my previous team elite gaming is worst then my KVR.
TE gaming has looser timer compare to my normal KVR.
also my KVR can overclock better in term of speed and tight timing.

any gaming ram if use with stock loose timer, its just nothing better compare to
any value ram that has tighter timing. nod.gif

true, team elite quite fragile with tight timing.
