Hi all, I test drove the Exora Bold 1.6 Premium CVT with my wife. Twice.

First was at Mutiara Damansara showroom. The route was mostly on the Penchala link. Number of people on board was 04: Me, wife, my brother and SA. Roads were wet coz it rained earlier. I tested the old Exora CPS when it first launched at this same showroom, it drove like a cow coz the engine was useless in climbing slopes.

But the Exora Bold with turbo was a good drive. Although I wished for more power and torque from the engine, the drive was adequate as I just need an MPV for town/city and highway driving. The car would be more from my wife, as we are expecting our first child mid of next year, so we are planning now on when to get the MPV. My wife was satisfies with the drive, despite having four adults on board, the power delivery was quite good.

The next day, we went to see an Alza. Wife liked the premium quality, but space was a BIG dissapointment (pun intended).

Second test drive on the same day was at the Taman SEA branch. This time I drove it on some normal flat roads, I found that I enjoyed the drive and tested the different gearbox modes (SAT, L gear, etc) and even the autocruise. With the features such as the reverse camera and overhead DVD entertainment system as standard on the Bold Premium for RM80k, I found that this MPV would be best suited for our needs in the near future. The only dissapointment for my wife was the absence of a proper Black colour choice, though I personally don't mind settling for the Elegant Brown (looks like Gold) colour. For me, I still have the stigma of past Proton ownership bugging me, I hope this new Exora wouldn't be too much of a problem, otherwise it would definitely be our last proton.

We would be placing a booking sometime early next year just after we purchase a new house in JB. Hopefully, by then, Proton manages to fix any niggling reliability issues of the engine, turbo and CVT box, and maybe reintroduce a proper Black colour.

the angle of the picture makes it look small.. try visit any showroom and see it your self..

Eh come on lah. I test drove the Exora Bold. I do indeed find the front seats are smaller than average. Even the Vios punya seat feels slightly bigger than it.

Hey guys, any insider info whether the next Exora Bold (facelift, minorchange, etc) will eventually be fitted with either a 1.8 or 2.0 MIVEC engine found in the Inspira?

If so, I can't wait to place a booking.

They will never fit the Mivec in the Exora, I am sure about this
Why you want the mivec? just asking

I asked because a few pages back in this thread, this was the rumour.

Why would I want the mitsu engine? Because I like it.

Looks like I'm delaying my decision to get an Exora Bold CFE now. Earliest to buy: before Hari Raya 2012, latest: mid-2013. If problems are per the forums still persist in later batches, will shelve the idea altogether.

mid 2013...u better wait for final facelift la...haha
and to tell u...theres no perfect car in this world...EVERY car in this world has its own problem
u buy infamous T also have problem la....somemore premium brand = expensive part
u buy exora...if something broken, u can still claim under warranty and if warranty ended, part will not be so expensive afterall
alza until now still have alot of problem
*
no need for forummers to keep repeating that every car brand has problems to justify the weaknesses of exora bold. i find lots of people try to defend proton cars by saying other brands also have problems. this is stale news lah. take other brands out of the equation, what are you left with? If a car has bad quality, just say it as it is, no need to hide behind other brands' so-called problems. unless you are a die-hard proton fan or staff, other fans will think rationally before making such a purchase.

actual car buyers like myself know what a vehicle warranty is for. but my priorities is very different than most of you, I don't like wasting my precious time going in and out of service centres solving problems that shouldn't have happened in the first place. you think I don't have anything better to do with my time? as for parts, I will judge for myself if parts are expensive or not, nobody can tell me otherwise.

did I mention anything about alza? why did you mention it?

at the end of the day, I buy a car to fulfill my needs. no point buying a car with full knowledge you know it's going to be problematic. the only thing going for the exora bold is that it is cheap and big. If I had the money, I'll be buying some other MPV.

fyi i just received my exora last thursday (17/05). arrived from factory the previous day. odo shows 20km (the dealer brought to tint shop)
i'm aware of the common problems related to eb's. so after 4 days and 350+km, from my observation my eb does not have all these common problems:
- jerking of the cvt gb
- intermittent aircond
- engine shut off
- dashboard rattling
- weird engine sound
- oil leaking
- friction on door handle (they're not touching at all)
- strange sound after hitting potholes

what i do have:
- wind noise on driver's window. but really minimal one. almost unnoticeable.
- hu only managed 2 find hitz.fm & nothing else. maybe dealer wrongly installed the antenna

my AFC so far is 9.7. prior to my trip to nilai (fr malacca), the AFC was even lower.

from what i see, proton has manage to sort out most of the problems faced by earlier batches of eb.

then again, it might be too early to judge sweat.gif

p/s damn i love the car. god bless proton!

*
why, this is great news! any idea what batch number is yours? what about wheel alignment, paint thickness or others?

sorry for my asking. well you know lah, I don't have the luxury of time to go in and out of service centres to tolerate over-tighten lah, under-tighten lah, dealer's fault lah, vendor's fault lah, customer's fault lah, etc.

your EB is still new, care to update again by end of July 2012? that is the time I may make an early decision. maybe proton can re-introduce a black colour exterior EB by then. thanks

DinKnight. For the second part of your statement, maybe you can consider cocoa grey which they're having now. It is so much nearer to the black color. You can try to google around and you can see what I meant. It is not the color which exora prime has.
Bro, I saw Cocoa Grey in the flesh. To my eyes, it is nowhere near to black. I don't like this colour at all.

Would rather go for the maroon one.

proton pricing pdf for EB is here

http://www.proton-edar.com.my/pdf/exora/EX...larMalaysia.pdf

now, referring to the accessories package worth RM4,310...
ACCESSORIES PACKAGE
COIL MAT --> I hate proton's ugly coil mats, rather buy proper carpets myself and put in the car
SAFETY KIT --> what is the safety kit? again, I can buy my own
BOOT ORGANIZER --> come on now, I can live without this or buy my own
NUMBER PLATE HOLDER --> seriously? the standard car doesn't come with a number plate holder?
TINT FILM --> rather install my own tint
DOOR VISOR --> don't need this
MULTIPURPOSE CONTAINER --> again, I can buy my own
NAVIGATOR --> this is the worst one, I rather use my existing garmin unit

So, can I buy an EB CFE Premium Metallic for RM 73,425.00 + insurance premium RM2,277.00 = RM75.7k? I rather not get their accessories package lah.

can you buy the car w/o the accessories?

Added on May 31, 2012, 11:08 pmwant to know for the CFE version, how is the aircond? can the most back seater feel cool ?

If you noticed, I asked the exact same question. rclxms.gif

I repeat, would proton sell me the mpv at a cheaper price without the above mentioned accessories? I don't need to pay more than 4k for the package.
