Well its all about patience.Do it slowly and precisely then your result would be great. =).

why not drop by at Games Circle the same location as the old Game castle near Atria right on top of Sports ToTo.

Hey guys!

I do warhammer aswell. Im in my 10th year of doing this hobby, and have worked on and off at the official hobby's store franchise "Games Workshop" down at Sydney, the Chatswood store to be precise.

Currently if you've been keeping upto date with the hobby, there is a worldwide campaign coming up in 2 months called the medusa 5 campaign.
If Re-Started my Iron Hands Marines Chapter (warhammer 40k) for use by the store in this campaign and should be allot of fun, the whole medusa 5 thing sought of revolves around the iron hands so yea.. thats neat.

I do other armies, but this is my new pride and joy.

And i'll be posting updates on how the army is coming aswell as some in-store pictures of them in play and in action - hopefully i can convince some of you guys that warhammer is a great hobby.

cheers

It's a set of units called Battleforce, just enough to get you starting the game. Some races are cheaper to collect, because there are tricks and methods to "convert" a cheaper unit into the expensive one.

There are many ways to enjoy Warhammer. You can spend very little just to paint and collect the figures, or you can invest a lot of time and money to play the game at a more competitive level. They are expensive mostly because they aren't made locally (I assumed). An official Game Workshop branded glue cost around RM20.

To be on the safe side, do read through the codex (rule books) of different races available if you want to start playing the game, or any information you can find online/offline. This is to get an idea of what are they about, or generally what is this game about, so you don't regret buying them.

Necrons, for example.

A Necron Warrior can be converted into a Necron Immortal, with some "trick" of cuz.

user posted image

The photo above is a Necron Warrior. Cut and paste a bit and you will get a Necron Immortal (photo at below).

user posted image

Necron Immortal is tougher and generally a better warrior than the Warriors.

Visit Comics Mart @ Mid Valley to see it for yourself. Promoting shop lol xD

Tyranids are not very theme-able, as in you can't cut their limbs and make them post in another way, or do any fancy stuff like converting units. They are supposed to be organic units, so painting them in full metallic silver, as an example, will make them look... unoriginal (necrons-like too).

It's recommended to start the game with Space Marines, but different people will tell you different story about each races, so decide it yourself, which race suits you best.

Used to play this game back in school days. (Both 40K and Fantasy)

My buddies and I would pool our money to buy the armies. Take turns play difference races.

Or we would just play it AD&D style if we didn't want to set up the table. (When everyone wanted to be space marines and go take on gene-stealers)

Good times indeed.

I'm Joyce, a new addition to the mart's crew. smile.gif I'll be in the mart about 1pm everyday till 8pm or so.

You mean metal-made-figures? Yea some races are entirely metal figures.

Haha yea, Joyce is a unisex name, just that more girls are using it. Female version of Joyce is Jocelyn.

Anyway.

No you can't, you can only play Warhammer 40k or Fantasy with their own set of units, respectively. Mixing up is a big no no.

I think you misunderstood ahtiven's question here, as I got a feeling that he was asking if you're able to take older 40K models from the 90s and mix it with the current releases.

When I was building up my Dark Angels army, that's what I always do, as I've got a habit of hunting all over the different games shops in Melbourne hunting for the older MK2, 3 and 4 armors.

Hmm.. as for the Fantasy models, it depends really on what you're wanting to do. Some of them can be modded for 40K play, just change the base of the model from the square to the round ones used by 40K.

The Orks army is a good candidate where the Warhammer fantasy models can be used for Warhammer 40K play, so switching models between games is still possible, depending on the army that you're building lar.. Mostly you'll just need to change the base. But this will also depend on the house rules of whatever place that you play in, as there's places that enforces on this rather strictly (but pretty rare though)

Ah! Learning something new everyday biggrin.gif

But I think I'll just stick to painting and photographing them only. The gaming part takes... so much energy, and I got short attention span.

Anyway.

Pictures are up! Only the figures part though. Gonna upload the rest after waking up.

I guess it's dry brushed on. One of their favorite painting method.

Hahaha, I play with paper counters. Been playing Tyranids and Tau army proudly, smashing enemies in all fronts.

All I care about is the play, figures can represented by paper cuts.

ah i see ..hmm indeed the white dwarf one really nice =)

yeah NMM need hell practice..i remember doing NMM a year back..screw up 10 models..at least still screw up but still can correct it hehe

one thing about NMM is u have to have the sense of light...if not.. T T.

But results wise NMM looks fairly awesome. =)

well what you can do, which i have been testing recently is take a photo of the model while its under the light (best done with no paint on the model whatsoever). this will allow you to see how light is reflected from real metallics tongue.gif . then when you paint it on just use that photo as reference when you're trying to mimic that reflective property.

personally i find metallic colors to look better as they can provide much more contract, but on photos NMM definitely looks more better and clean.

Its gonna cost somewhere in the 4 to 600.. Fun to look at, a horror to fix and paint, the thing is a size of about 4 Leman Russ combine into 1....

Forgot to intro,
I'm a IG player, not yet official cuz my army isn't complete, i just need a command squad and 1 troop. Got 2 battle tank, 1 heavy weapon and 5 men doh.gif

How much you need to spend to get a whole army?

Expect to spend about RM1.5k on a decent starter army tongue.gif That's the number that Wolf (from Wolf's game shop) gave to me as of the current prices.

Thanks but I am not a tabletop gamer to be honest(but I enjoy building kits), as I started to play DOW 3 years ago, and recently the dark crusade. Space Marine is always a jump start for noobs like me. Now I am training with Imperial Guard but no that frequent, can only practice with friends at CC 2 or 3 times XD.

I like Imperial Guard, due to their more human characters and yes, all their heavy weapons.

oops, I derail the thread from tabletop to PC XD.

I guess its all pretty even depending on how many points you want your starter army to be. The amount you spend is roughly the same with exception to necrons, if you're fielding an army of warriors. the only problem with guard or other low pts/model armies is the amount of painting time. Otherwise its all good. tongue.gif

Actually..... for starters... 500 point army to get you started would cost like RM 1000 plus paint for IG... I was suppose to be a collector for GW and Forge world tanks.. but got poisoned into playing anyways.... I think RM1000 is the normal price to start any average army, except space marine whom are mainly plastic models. that makes them cheaper...

And if anyone is tired of Warhammer, might I introduce you to

WARMACHINE

Fewer models involved. Everything is metal. Very satisfying combos. Lovely fluff!

=) ah! yes warmachine's model are nice but the gameplay still lacks compare to GWs. Same goes with confrontation. GW kinda TM everything so that they monopolize the miniature tabletop game. The ncie aprt about Warmachine and confrontation is the small scale but the nice thing about W40k is large scale haha

its not hard to assemble the figures neither to paint them.

the hard part is to assemble them and paint them nicely, smoothly and detailed. thats the only hard part.

as for starters u can enjoy assembling and have a noob painting skills and u will do fine

Just put aside a certain of budget for it monyhly as u need time to paint them as well so once u finish painting one part u will have enough budget to get the other set. by the time u finish your painiting u will have a great looking army and not a pinch onto your wallet.

Dont rush, once rush u will get a ugly looking army and u will be demoralize to play.....

Hi guys, new to this thread. Didn't know even on Lowyat there's a Warhammer 40,000 discussion. Right now, I'm WIP on a Grey Knights Army. Here are some old ones I painted up. smile.gif

Almost finished Grey Knights by david lian, on Flickr

I used to be a long time player at Comics Mart, and now, am fortunate to open my own little store. Our goal is "For gamers, by gamers" as we all know Warhammer 40K can be an expensive hobby. So we try to bring in product as reasonably cost as possible.

You can check us out at Warp Space Games. We also have a pretty active Facebook page here. Always looking forward to get connected to the community.

Wira Games and Hobbies, Subang section 15 has the cheapest so far. You can find them on Facebook. Another is hobbyforge at Zenith Corporate Park. Also on FB. I recommend wira games though. They're right beside Taylors University. Real good service, no hardsell and have the cheapest prices right now if I'm not mistaken.

Btw, beginner here, waiting for my Tau battleforce to arrive from the UK xD

Sorry.. I didn't phrase my question properly.. LOL

Btw, beginner here, waiting for my Tau battleforce to arrive from the UK xD

This was what I was asking about.. You mentioned you are waiting for it to arrive from the UK, so I'm just wondering where did you buy from with the UK. Is it because it's cheaper or just that Malaysia didn't had what you wanted?

Ohhhhhhhh hahahaha. Sorry, missed that out. I got it off ebay, someone was selling it off cheap so I just got it. It's here already, so yay. But not very easy to find stuff off ebay. Waiting for packages to arrive is a tiring wait too, so if you want convenience without the hassle of customs or waiting a gazillion years for your package, buy it off a local retailer.

I think there are people playing regularly in Wira (SS15), Hobby Forge (Zenith PJ) and Gladius Games (Shah Alam).

Though I have moved on from 40k miniature to 40k LCG, namely WH40k Conquest.
Easy game to learn and very strategic. Fast games (average 40-50mins a game), easy on the wallet due to LCG format, and great art as usual from a great publisher in FFG.

Most importantly, its scratches the 40k fluff itch. Now already got family and all, dont really have long hours to burn in miniature war games anymore. smile.gif

Although I know this is a Warhammer 40,000 thread, I was wondering whether there's any shop that sells miniatures that could be used in a Dungeons and Dragons game ie. generic orc fighter, elf wizard etc. If you have experience buying online and shipping to Malaysia too that'll be great.

Try these reputable sites, they have reasonable shipping price to Malaysia as well :
www.miniaturemarket.com
www.waylandgames.co.uk

Orcs, Elves can get from Warhammer Fantasy, no? I think most miniature shops in Malaysia do carry Warhammer Fantasy stuff, namely Comics Mart MV, Sparta KL, Gladius Games SA, Hobby Forge PJ, Wira Games SJ, Wolf Games PJ...

i always loved the game, but never play board game before. i saw few at IOI city mall. i am considering to collect em. usually one paint cost how much? is it ok for beginner to just buy the starter pack with paint? i mean is it cover all the color to paint the starter pack or i need extra paint?

Yeah it is very beginner friendly. I would say its like 3D colouring book! The starter paintset with figure is enough but it you want more detail then more paint is needed.

Anyone know somebody that will do minis painting for a commission? If they have an IG page to follow and see their skills would be a bonus.

Thanks.

By the way, what are the usual prices for commissions?

for starter pack that comes with a paint is fair enough, but if u want to expend ur color variants, extra paint is required. usually one paint cost around RM17 to Rm29 per pot biggrin.gif

Where is a good place in KL or PJ to look for old Warhammer sets? Maybe even the old metal sets or blister packs? Comics Mart in Mid Valley has some, and I heard there are some small toy shops in AmCorp Mall and IOI Mall which sell old minis, but I never found them (other than Battle Bros in AmCorp, but they're selling current stuff).

I was wondering, is there any 40k models that aren't for "play" so to speak?
i love the 40k universe and would like to build a model. Something like a titan, or a ship, like a gundam.
Im not interested in the models for games since it seems to focus more on painting vs assembly.

I know about the primaris 40k from gundam, but that's just an action figure iirc

If you looking for something like gundam i think for now only primaris 40k.

I think titan or tau empire have lots of bigger mecha model. Currently i only have indomitus and not yet fully assemble aa i new to painting so i take it slowly

Hello people,

I have a bunch of figures and paints and I plan to sell em off. It's been occupying my storage for too long. I thought I'd pick up this painting hobby thing but reality hits me.

However, I have no idea how much all of these worth. If anyone here interested to pick all of these, I'd be happy to throw everything at a fair price (way below what they're worth) as long as all of them are gone.

90% of them are sealed, although the opened ones' content I believe, are all still in there.

Here are some photos, sorry for the poor lighting.

You may PM me also if you have tips on what to do with these lol.
