Hello, who went to Kenanga? Can post some pictures not?

Edmund went there. He has shared his FB page though.

I did too but stayed there for just some 5 minutes as it was a working day on Friday and I was there to visit my client.

Sneaked out to see betta. LOL! tongue.gif

LOL. That is quite some scattered bubble nest.

You should try to put in a female if you do plan to breed betta provided that you are not worried of the tiresome betta fries raising process.

Only then you will experience the true form of bubble nest, or should I say bubble cloud.

Have fun! laugh.gif

currently dont have time to breed them in 2-3 month..will have super busy month.
*
Well, you don't have to breed them. All you have to do is to put in a female and let the male chase her around, he will then start to build the bubble nest if the female shows spawning colours. You may separate the female thereafter if you don't want them to mate.

Haha, LuQEE. Why get another betta if flipmode is super duper busy? Flaring exercise?

for me, 5 more individual male bettas much more easy to care than one swarm of fries..  brows.gif
besides, more bettas = more relax feeling i get when watching them after a hard day's work..

*
Hahaha! more individual male bettas = peaceful easy feeling?

Hmm, quite true. Somehow I feel that it's quite sad to keep them being bachelor. LOL! That is why I spawn them.

Maybe I should post some spawning photos to poison the people here. Betta porn. brows.gif

Hi,
how do imbellis fight against each other?

i have 2 male 1 female imbellis in a tank. last night, i saw both the male flare and fighting each other. the way they fight -> use their caudal fin to push each other away -.- instead of using their mouth to attack.

is this how the wild type fight?
*
QUOTE(ZONX @ Apr 24 2012, 11:06 AM)
From the way they fight. seems more like pushing each other away only. after 5 minutes, they swim together again like friends. maybe that's how they got the name "peaceful betta" ..lol

only able to see their color when they flare (dark, blue, red). or else they will be colorless. =(
*
Hohoho... Never ever do compare betta splendens of plakats, fighters, or show bettas with wild bettas, in this case betta imbellis.

Betta splendens, they're just ferocious fighters, built or trained or bred to be fighters. A different class on their own. One way to describe - Built for the Kill.

Betta imbellis and other wild bettas, are for hobbyists, in other words to be kept, raised, bred and to preserve and conserve the species but not for fight to death purpose or to see their beautiful fins being torn or shred to pieces.

Besides that, they don't really fight with their teeth. Flaring at each other from tanks or bottles or even pushing each other away (I call it 'ass bumping') until they get tired and they could still live happily in a large tank with each other.

Occasionally there might be some slight fin damage due to some carelessness of confrontation, otherwise they're as peaceful and serene as best ffriends.

Regarding their colouration, betta imbellis or any other wild bettas will only show their best colours during flaring or breeding. As you might have heard of such a phrase - 'Don't piss me off until I'll show you my TRUE COLOURS!'.

They won't simply be at their best colours at all times, unlike the betta splendens of plakats, fighters, or show bettas, who are able to flare 24/7 and at all times in their strong contrasting colours.

This, is what makes the difference by a huge margin in between the two. Have fun! icon_rolleyes.gif

mine are killers lol....once you keep them in solitary tank,it became fierce lol
*
LOL! Tested and proven. They may be small but now I've experienced seeing one of my best male flaring at a male fighter and scare the larger fighter to show its stressed lines. rclxms.gif

Thanks! a very clear clarification  rclxms.gif can't wait to separate them in different tank and let them flare. If i separate them in different tank for sometimes, then i put them back into same tank again, should be no problem also rite?  sweat.gif  just wondering...

once i put a small haruan (slightly longer than the imbellis) into the imbellis tank, they turn into dark color and hide in the plants..  blink.gif maybe feel threaten  icon_question.gif
*
Haha. No worries. You could try to separate them and put them back to see the effects. I don't think they are as ferocious as the betta splendens. If they do seem to fight and get injured badly, do separate them up.

Anyway, if you have photos to show of your very own betta imbellis that would be lovely.

Yeah, good for your channas, not good for the bettas. Go get yourself shrimps, drain guppies, bloodworms or bird mealworms to feed your channas instead. Shoo shoo... laugh.gif

Haha. You no longer have anymore of smaragdina & imbellis, so you needn't worry. You should feed your channas with livida fries. Hahahaha!!! You'll say, Nooooooooooooooo for sure. brows.gif

Yes, imbellis, smaragdina, stiktos are all from the splendens complex but this thread is about the splendens' splendens. LOL!

Shouldn't really drag on into the wild bettas or else it would poison the people here. Haha!

Hello there c.way, pleased to know of the details. Anyway, I got to know of your name from Faesz. Honored to see you here!

You were right about the term that bettas are known as fighting fish as they do fight. That is their nature though.

Besides that, even betta bellicas do tussle around although being said as the most tamed betta species from a video I saw.

I've lost one of my two betta bellicas, mistakenly that I have been given both males and placed them in the same tank and one of them just nip the other brutally.

haha, can do if you know understand them, too bad that u people came along to the scene so late as I've already quitted, being too tired to carry on the species maintainance on the effort of only a few whom mostly quitted or go low profile
*
LOL. Faesz told me the same thing, that you have quit. I came into wild bettas too late.

I've just resume getting into bettas some Feb this year after some 10 years absence. Been playing with plakats, fighter and some veiltails back in 2002 or 2003.

Am more into imbellis and bellica for the time being. The super rare and endangered ones I'm feeling rather worried to try my luck. Keeping is one thing, breeding them is another issue. Haha!

Good luck to you c.way, hope you will resume your passion and let it spark again. icon_rolleyes.gif

Would love to meet the community of wild bettas masters someday. Thankfully I've met Faesz and to me he's one crazy wild betta guy already. notworthy.gif

I'm happy with my batch of fries right now. Smaragdina copper spawned, so did a pair of imbellis.

How was your Sabah trip? Did you go down to Kalimantan or Borneo for some species like Macrostoma or such? tongue.gif
