otherwise it is good. I guess the hdd error has something to do with software problem, as well as activation stuff that I did. But strange thing is that i couldnt discover it in the windows setup.

But fine, with working LCD, it is a beautiful product, I like it very much.

actually the hdd problem was a conflict with msata caching ssd, according to the technician and they will fix it in upcoming bios. once i removed the cache, i could find the hard drive in windows setup.

for lcd, their shortage is due to many lcd problems lately. so i have to wait until somewhere in august, and they would send to singapore by postage directly to me, then i will be calling the dell technician over there.

the onsite technician is good, polite, and answers many questions.

glad to hear that, may ur problem be solved quickly, i ady order with viper88 for m14x r2, now waiting for dell to call me.

great, hope your laptop comes with fine condition. the LCD problem is mostly manufacturer's defect, samsung stuff.

m14x r2 runs great, you can oc and get decent temperature (65C max) as well as very good performance

not sure about 3D.

For windows 8, before you install it, the assistant will run a test to check compatibility and if any software isn't compatible, you have to uninstall them before you can proceed the installation.

The upgrade is easy, you dont need to reinstall anything, just simple installation + restart.

today i was supposed to have my touchpad led replaced. However, when it was replaced and prepared to be switched on, it failed to switch on. The technician suspected it was due to the chip of the connecting the power button.

So he tried the old one and it failed apparently. In the end, he tried to switch on, tonnes of burn smell and smoke appeared.
The power chip just short circuited my motherboard and now i have to wait for tomorrow or next monday to have it repaired. Luckily the hdd is not affected. So what the f*** is going on with dell QC? why they did not check properly before dispatching the set? I already have 5 receipts of service from 3 months of usage. How can I complain? really pissed off at the QC, some of my works have to be delayed due to the files being in the laptop and i cannot switch on now.

any tips on complaining and get compensated? really pissed off

There is an offer from windows 8 upgrade that if you purchase your laptop with windows 7 within july 2012 - march 2013, you can upgrade at a cost of RM50.

After you paid the rm50, you will receive cdkeys and be prompted to install a upgrade assistant which will check driver compatibility before it allows you to upgrade.

You can do clean installation like basic reformatting. You can do direct installation where every compatible apps are retained, user settings unchanged etc. It is like nothing is changed except wins 7 now becomes wins 8.

i use belkin backpack (15' laptop) for m14x r2. it costed around rm98 after discount

Direct upgrade without formatting seems save lots of hassle but hows about the old windows file? Are those old windows file deleted?

Which belkin backpack? belkin evo? How good is it in term of material quality etc?

no problem.

Added on November 8, 2012, 8:16 pmMy laptop was literally killed by either Dell faulty replacement palmrest or the clumsy engineer who caused the "magic smoke" by connecting the cables to the wrong socket.

The damage done turns out not to be only on the motherboard but also the HDD as well.

The situations are handled badly by one of the Dell employee and the engineer as both of them failed to detect that the HDD was already damage. I was literally asked to accept the new hdd/reformat of the old hdd which they were unsure about whether it is due to windows 8 or hardware failure. Everything could turn on without HDD, but when HDD plugged in, there is power failure [ which common sense in electronics would tell you that the current couldn't run through all the circuits and that the some of the circuits must have gone haywired].

It is funny that during the service they couldn't detect whats wrong with the HDD and spent 2 hours for the whole service (mobo and palmrest)

After they left, I was more or less devastated as all my documents in HDD and programs which need alot of time to install back are gone.

When I started to check whether the HDD was already died, I smelt burnt smell in the center of the disk and it was actually burnt during the last second repair which costed me the mobo.

Good thing is that Shelly on Facebook Dell Malaysia has requested a new replacement unit for my laptop. I refuse to think more about the loss made by Dell on my annotated documents and some personal files as thinking about would devastate me. I raise an official complaint to Dell and I would like to see what they are responding to this apart from sending me a new replacement.

its normal to have 40-50 fps with maximum setting in dota 2 for m14x r2, its just gt650m what do ya want more?

40-50fps is already very smooth.

@kris, yep its either i leave the AA on but with several options off, or leave the AA off with the others all on. Then I could hit 45-55 fps.
yep i did that too! that didnt help cuz my optimus is working fine smile.gif

gt650m is not a *just* gpu as you mentioned, and not "what do ya want more" mentality. probably you have millions of dollar to spend and dont mind paying hefty amount of money without zero expectation. and probably you havent played dota 2, or the alike games yet. so you may not know how 40-50 fps is like. i suggest you try out and see how its like and come back let us know whether you will be satisfied with a RM4000 over machine, performing 40-50 fps on dota 2.

but to me, it is really below my expectation because 40, and sometimes around 30-38 depending on fighting scenes, is just not playable on dota 2. don believe me , then you go ahead and try like i said just now.

anyway, i just did some research and realized that even gtx 660m also have this issue on dota2. they said after valve released the update after greeveling, they faced this sluggish issue, particularly on mobile graphics.  so yea, im glad that gt650m can run about 30-45 fps on need for speed most wanted maxed out. that is playable and acceptable smile.gif

no bro, I owned m14x r2 and have been playing dota with it since last year july. It runs consistently at 40-50 fps with everything maxed out. There is no way it could go higher unelss you put shadow/AA off.

I bought it at 5k but still I feel its quite the same considering its gc is not strong. Pcs costing rm2.8k now uses gt650m too and those costs rm3.5k uses gt655m etc

Sorry bro, my bad sad.gif yea, I have off some settings to get better FPS. But thanks alot! smile.gif
I have another question, does the frame rate drops after some time of gaming dota 2? And what is the cpu and gpu temp? My GPU temp is 64C, and CPU is about 78-80C after 1 hour 30 min gaming dota 2.

but again really sorry about prvious post. cheers ! smile.gif

Its okay bro, just be more humble next time.

thats normal temp for gaming in the laptop.

It dips occasionally in the lobby (10+ fps) after some games, but in the game it comes back to 60 when players are being ready for the matches and 50+- for the games.

Sometimes it ran at 15-25 fps at max setting (if this happens, make everything low, still playable at 50fps) for me which I believe its a driver issue. 310.70 and 310.90 occasionally caused this.

CPU usually goes up to 70-80 while gaming, unless u use better thermal paste. I have used 4 different m14x r2 and they all gave the same results.

Mine i7-3740, gt650m 2gb, 16gb ram, 64gb sata ssd. Can play most of the latest games on full settings with 40+fps (assassin creed 3).

For most games, if you can get more than 33fps consistently, it should not look so different than those higher.

alrigh thanks bro for the info, seems like my case, and its pretty normal. what nvidia driver are you using? I realized that 310.90 has the issue similar to yours. if i roll back to dell's 307 driver, it seems more manageable. i noticed slightly better and consistent fps throughout.
*
yes, earlier drivers are more stable. I downloaded the latest one mainly for assassin creed 3.

thanks man, how's the fps on assassin creed 3?
i sold my r1 for RM1400, its literally new. had the lcd panel, whole chassis, motherboard, heat sink fan, keyboard, palm rest, all replaced. the only few parts that are not replaced are the hdd, ram and wifi card. i still love the aluminium chassis of r1. biggrin.gif good luck.
