Just keep spamming the software update button. A new firmware with the volume button fix was pushed out this morning. Search for samfirmware on twitter.

@stringfellow,

Not sure if it only affects AOSP, coz on CM7 also transferring .apk files via Bluetooth is not possible. The nearest way to make it work is zipping it into a .zip, transfer it over to the phone via BT, then unzipping it. Can try if you insist on transferring .apk files via bluetooth.

For another wireless file transfer, can use AirDroid to access your phone file system via WiFi (provided connected to the same network).

Agree that it's an annoyance when people come in and say they are going to wait to get S3 or will instead go for GNote. Same thing happen since the previous thread.

@stringfellow, is it convenient for you to test out the GPS on the Galaxy Nexus? Just wanna know how long does it take on average to get a GPS lock at an unfamiliar place. Friend's Nexus S's GPS does not impress me.

My guess is it's just a matter of shipped firmware, and no difference in hardware. Much like in HTC phones where there're different firmware/radio for different regions of the world.

Rumor has it that the non-Yakju builds are because Samsung wanted to push out a fix for the volume button bug, and decided to ship it before Google got a chance to approve it.

Do hope Samsung will patch the non-Yakju builds to Yakju with an OTA, so then all Nexuses are equal.

I believe all GNex version will get all the updates from Google. Otherwise people/user will start screaming at both Google and Samsung :-P

No. Non-Yakju builds cannot manually flash the OTA for Yakju. It's in the build.prop build check.

lol I remember a certain conversation about how Nexus users only care about the stock Nexus experience? whistling.gif

I kid, I kid. Of course anything can be done after rooting. Then again, having a vanilla build doesn't mean everything. The T-Mobile G2 (US version of HTC Desire Z) had vanilla Android, even with the word 'by Google' on it, but never got Android 2.3 until quite some time.

Then again, even if the non-Yakju builds are not updated by Google, it shouldn't be that hard for Samsung to port the changes from the Yakju build to non-Yakju builds. Pretty sure a build.prop patch is on the way though, since JPQ is notified about it already.

Whoah... Expansys SG reduced it's price for the GNex to SGD 893 ~ RM2180. 32GB model listing remains for pre-order.

This is interesting. Came across some Galaxy Nexus ads on youtube uploaded as fresh as 2 hours ago by ThaiSamsungMobile. The videos were clearly ads for the Japanese market (even the phone's operating language is Japanese), but the descriptions were in Thai. Any speculations?

The video is new as far as it's existence in Samsung Mobile Thailand's youtube channel is concerned. At the time of my posting, it was only 2 hours old. I'm sure the same video was posted on Samsung Japan's channel some time ago. But Samung Thailand posting anything remotely related to the Galaxy Nexus should be exciting.

If Thailand already starts planning for the ads for the Galaxy Nexus, I can only imagine Malaysia being verrryyyy close as well.

AOSP does not have native support for video calls over 3G. Samsung is the only OEM out there that incorporates video call ovr 3G in their ROMs. Not even HTC or motorola has it.

Anyway, for root users out there, check out Stick Mount by Chainfire. Google hasn't enabled USB thumb drive mount for ICS yet. This app enables mounting USB thumbdrives. Until Google enables it in stock build, this app is the only way to mount a thumb drive via USB OTG.

How to enter new line when im typing a sms? For example:

Hi, How are you?
Just want to ask how to enter new line like this.  <---
*
AFAIK the stock AOSP Messaging app does not activate the 'Enter' button. The keyboard will replace the 'Enter' button with an emoticon shortcut button.

If you want to make that kind of formatting, you'll need to use a 3rd party messaging app (Chomp is a pretty good one). In this case, the 'Enter' button remains as an 'Enter' button and you can use it to make a new line.

^What are you trying to achieve? A clean slate where the phone is void of apps and data?

Factory reset, whether performed through the recovery screen (the android with open stomach screen), or thru settings, do the same thing. IINM, without a custom recovery image, your /media partition will be wiped regardless of how you perform the factory reset.

^You're looking for a button-combination to factory reset? I don't think that exists in Android.

Damn. I knew something was up when I found that Japanese Galaxy Nexus ad on Samsung Thailand's youtube channel. Thailand start selling Galaxy Nexus already. Selling for 20,000 THB (~ RM2017).

Though it's said Thailand builds are non-Yakyu.

I have confirmation that the NFC works with the extended 2000mAh battery.

FYI, the NFC module is in the phone itself. The battery act as the antenna. wink.gif

Does it mean any battery can act as the antenna?

Oh yeah forgot about the teardown.

Man tears have been shed with the news about the phone coming next months at RM2099.

Anyway, I look forward to play around beaming stuff with people who have phones with NFC. Minds will be blown.

^ A much cleaner, concise, professionally written version of my jumbled up buffet-style writeup in my signature. Exactly my thoughts.

To those who have handled the SGS2 before, how much bigger would you say the Galaxy Nexus is?

To those who have handled the Nexus S before, is the volume rocker of the Galaxy Nexus as easy-to-click as it? I personally feel the one on the Nexus S too easy to click.

I think the battery life issue is blown out of proportion. If it is within 16 hours of heavy usage, it's pretty damn good enough for me. How often does a person stay awake more than 16 hours anyway? Unless that fella doesn't need to sleep.

I will concede if anyone can find me a smartphone that lasts more than 48 hours of heavy usage.
