anyways recently I try my hands on cleaning and consuming some of my BH produce... cleaning 10 gram is very time consuming, I selected the cleaner nest to test already, still took me many hours to clean it sufficiently . anyone got tips to shorten the time ?

Use brown sugar when cooking so you won't see the fine feathers  whistling.gif

Unfortunately, other than paying somebody else to clean EBN, there is no short cut.

First time very slow
Many times quite fast
over the years like my spouse, very fast........I only eat and sell home made nests.

She's my production manager and I, the sell manager.... when you get use to it like she does, you are dammed good and fast and my only regret that I make lousy sellman.

100% pure
100% safe
0% additive or chemical
100% featherless where can you get in the market????????

Consumers can contact me ,,,hahaha selling EBN here lah as I get Rm4K for cleaned EBN and just 1.5K for unprocessed one. Regret less local buyers for cleansed EBN otherwise, I go full time selling EBN for a living. Good profit and honest buz.

haha ok .. so the moral of the story is get a good spouse ! smile.gif I better go find me one ASAP! laugh.gif

QUOTE(West Wing @ Nov 19 2014, 11:56 AM)
The EBN Association does not protect you, now the Law does not protect you either.

Do you know that how difficult to catch a thief stealing your EBN but do you know how fast the Police release them....some in just a few hours.

Even the Court does not protect you cos we caught a pair of thieves and the police took them to the Police station. To ensure that the Police take action, 20 of birdhouse owners went to Police station to identified them and only to have released on bail later by their buyer.

The Court fined the thieves only Rm800 per person only for stealing from more than 10 BHs with EBN over 20K at least.  So, my advice to those wanting to start doing BH, don't cos why build when you can just take (steal) from the best BH and in case you got caught, pay the fine only and no jail sentence. what is Rm800 fine compare to Rm30K of EBN.

We shall be expecting the 2 thieves soon after their rest as their fine was paid by their buyer and need to be reimbursed.

Police nowaday are more concerned and interested with issue summons to number plates and dark glass.

wah.. tats bad... but on bail does not mean free of the crime, pending court date. our area also seems of increase in break into bhs.... sad.gif

Attended EBNIC 2014 at Marriott Putrajaya from 25-26 Nov 2014. Many excellent papers presented on EBN.

Nitrite issue solved. After soaking and cooking, no nitrite left. Much Ado over Nothing.

UPM doing a lot of leading research on EBN. Hope they can get more research funds from the government.

The Chinese and Hong Kong Professors presented many excellent papers. Our local Unis not too bad but got a long way to catch up.

Pak Harry also had a presentation.

Hope to get better response and quality papers in future.

QUOTE(West Wing @ Jan 4 2015, 03:32 PM)
this has been repeated many times over the last few Vs but maybe you overlook it.

Monsoon time is when no bird will stay back at BH and most BHs are either stagnant or find much lesser nests in their Bhs. This is when most BH owners harvest all nests as there isn't many chicks left in the BHs and those left over may even die due to starvation as their parent may find it impossible to return to feed. Cold weather may be also one of the factor causing the death but some chicks do survive these bad weather to fledge.

So, if you find your BH stagnant during these bad time, then you are doing well for many shall find their BHs  lesser or even emptied of nest during monsoon time.
*
Wah... speak of the devil.. I jst went in this morning... they did rebuilt the nests which I harvested previously.. some have eggs some just hatched. . . but there were so many dead chicks I was shocked. I counted around 20+ some even in the nests. Commonly one alive one dead.. sad.gif So heart breaking.

Bro, not bad. you even have the still of them standing and staring at your camera lens !!!  How did u catch and get rid and prevent revisit ?

Mine was twice as tall and 2x white & handsome. Went into BH and it took flight without letting me to get an autograph...

Now, Entrance hole is 1/5 the size of the previous one, many spikes, rat glue and fish nets inside to prevent re-visit. So far so good...
*
They tot they invincible... I passed them a few times going up and down the stairs, didnt look up. Before I exited my bh, I did last check, got a shock of my life seeing 4 eyes staring at me. I didnt catch because it was impossible unless use trap. Unfortunately for them, they had to pay for my 100+ empty nests. Beautiful creatures. Sad case.

QUOTE(West Wing @ Mar 4 2015, 03:11 PM)
Bird trap the best so far but unpleasant sigh for the weak heart so I wouldn't recommend it.  As for smaller entrance, they still crawled in as my friend's BH happened to have 2 in his BH with 6" grills  and his Indo workers have them destroyed as they can't fly out just can crawl in......anyone got" win win" method here?

As for smaller entrance means also smaller space for bird to enter and smaller growth  but still our Big Eyes can enter until too small for either one.

Remember that one need to fly in but the other can crawl in........pening kepala.
*
6" also can masuk... sad.gif Id like to know a Win WIN method too..

They got in because my light burnt and my orang gaji didnt think it was important to inform me. Im thinking using the strip LED lights which almost never burns out to surround the entrance hole it with the old energy saver light...

Lantern festival coming in August. Let's hope price keep moving upward due to lower supply and decrease of quantity of nest in the BH.
*
what would the reason be for decrease in quantity? isit ranchers more lazy to harvest or the population actually decrease due to external factors. my BH still not yet reach 1000 after so many years. always trying many things to improve the house.

oh I was suppose to go in to by BH yesterday, but weather did not permit. So will try these few days to see if can get in and have a look around the progress of the nests. on last count its been stagnant at 600+- for a few months. Maybe it was the owl issue that caused uncertainty in the community.

Anyone doing processing in here, recently asked a friend to clean some nests for me and he tells me he didn't use chemical or food glue... How do we know for sure besides going for lab test? Anything we can do on our own?
