Does getting your own pool cue help a lot in your game? Still using house cue sad.gif
*
it's all about consistency. a good cue has lower deflection rate than house cue. House cue are usually cheap cues. pool centres very often do not maintain their house cues. the condition of house cues are really bad most of the time. Especially the tip. over time, the tip will be harden. that means it does not execute spins effectively. Therefore, everytime when you play pool with a different cue, you have to adjust your playing style a little bit.
Besides, it looks cool carrying your own cue biggrin.gif.

For beginner, i recommend getting a decent cue around rm400 to rm1k. There is one called drakan is selling less than rm500 (i think). It has a very "solid" hit. you may wanna consider that. check this out http://www.drakancues.com

That white butt damn nice lar drool.gif

How muchhhhh is this??? wub.gif I was talking to Benjamin Lee and he said Sunway Mentari do sell some Drakan cues, hope it's the cheapest?? biggrin.gif

P/s: But I'm forgetting something important, there's no "soft grip" on where you hold the cue at. Usually that part is leather or something right?

There are many cues you can get under rm200. i would not say they are decent cues. these cheap cues have very high deflection rate. you can invest in those cue first if you are cash strapped. You can get better cue when you have the money.

Tips in my opinion, does not really matter. It depends on individual preference. whether you like it hard, medium or soft. these three compound have different effect on the cue ball. In the market, Kamui and Moori is very common. They are around RM70-80 per tip plus installation. I personally like Everest tip because of the softer compound. I suggest you stick to the original tip on your new cue first. Get the feel of the tip first before considering changing it.

For hard case cue bag you can get a one butt one shaft bag. Not that expensive. Should be below RM200. There is a shop along Sg. Besi called Probilliard. They have quite an extensive pool cues and accessories. Though I dont think they sell cue under RM200. Check out that place.

Not all pool cues comes with a wrap (soft grip). Draken sure don't. You can get it done by professionals. unfortunately, Malaysia doesnt have one. You can have it done in SG though. But cue wrapping is very expensive. there are two types of wrap, Linen and Leather.

If you are interested in Draken cue which I also recommend it for beginners, you can ask Ben for the cheapest range.

Ordered my Drakan Air No Wrap already smile.gif

Now looking for a cheap case to store 2 shafts and 3 butts.

1) Need recommendations on cue case and break/jump cue, preferably a cheap one smile.gif
2) Jump cue need to have a shorter butt right? So, I need a case with 2 shafts+3 butts?

I notice I am not that comfortable using pool cues all these while, maybe because I'm too used to a thinner shaft when playing snooker, my cueing technique seems to be way sharper in snooker than in pool. Really weird.

But I've been using pool house cues all these while, hope things change when I get my own pool cue tongue.gif

Try Predator Z shaft. Its slimmer than the normal pool shaft.

the tip is pretty worn. its time to change. if u like to use slightly hard tip, try kamui clear (M). but they are pretty expensive. around rm70 or so.

As for cloth type cue bag, usually they are given free when you buy expensive cue. I have not come across anyone sellling it. you can try to ask around the pool hall you hang out or try pro billiard like kytz suggested.

hard tip usually last longer than a softer tip. that also depends on the frequency of your usage and the style of your play (eg. applying lots of spins tend to wear tip faster).

go to probilliard and ask advice on tips. they do retip too.

pool cloth? or u mean cloth for wiping your cue? any cloth will do. I use the finest sand paper (1500) to sand the dirt of the shaft, then use a damp cloth to wipe it. then use a dry cloth to wipe it dry it.

some might argue that by using sand paper, it will damage the wood. i hv been using it for years and am happy with it. so it is your call.

Can anyone suggest a pool cue that will cost me around or below RM500 that is nice to play? Been playing pool for like 9 months, and constantly improving, at this point I hope to get more consistency with a very own cue instead of house cues, they usually bent, or the tips are not perfectly round.

Kinda ahead of all my friends now and even ahead of the guy that introduced me to pool sweat.gif . Usually play at AC/Club 9 @SS15. Sometimes idk if the rules that my friends are up to standard or not sweat.gif, when I refer international rules, some are fouls.

If your budget is below RM500 you can try Drakan Cue -www.drakancues.com. Since you are also playing at Club 9, you can ask Joanne / Anthony for recommendation.

Any Pool players (American Pool. 8 ball/9 ball) from Balakong here? I play at some of the snooker/pool places in the area. Looking for playing mates.

Also, are there any sites with more info on pool tournaments? I would like to play for trophies/medals and/or prize money. Where can I find more info? Is there like an associaton or federation for pool?

Other than the occasional tournaments at bars and pubs, I have never found any online info about tournaments. Most tournaments in my area is for snooker. Not a big fan of snooker.

I enjoy the game. I would like to play for cash. Gambling/pool hustling is ok but I'm more interested in playing as a sport. I don't mind gambling on the side for some extra cash tongue.gif Where can I do this? Anyone know?

There aren't many American pool tournaments around. You can check out 5ive Star Pool & Bar facebook page. They organize quite a number of tournaments.

You can also check out Golden Break Snooker & Pool Club facebook page. I think their Golden Break 9-Ball Open is coming up soon .
