Ahh, the elusive 'feel' of the bat + rubber setup... To me, it consists of the grip, workmanship, weight, sound and look of the bat. Same goes to the rubber, but more on the 'feel' when glued to the bat and hitting the ball (bounciness, sound, recoil, weight, location of center point, quality of ball returned...) Sounds like an art, don't you think?

It's a very complicated subject. New/inexperienced players may have a hard time understanding that, but seasoned players who spent time studying their setup will. Also, as I said before, if you don't have proper skill sets, it's a lot harder to understand or appreciate some of those good equipments...

Ic. Mind i ask the address of PJ union? What time usually ppl go and play? Everyday?
i'm not so good in ping pong, just know some basic...
*
PJ Union is at the top level in the 3-storey building behind Giant Hypermarket in that area (ground floor is an Indian barber shop). FYI, the player levels there are high. For relaxing casual play, better try elsewhere or you can ask them for coaching. RM 10 per entry or RM 60 per month with (almost) unlimited entry. Coaching may cost extra. I'm not sure.

I'm a noob here. Planning to buy a ping pong bat, budget less than 200. I stay nearby jusco maluri and I dun like those sunflex bats, rubber so thin. I heard there's one shop nearby viva. Where exactly is it? Need all of your advice. TQVM. smile.gif

Requirements:
1) focus more on chopping and smashing
2) shakehand hold
*
It's Uncle Ling's shop, 'Gold Medal Sports'. It's just outside/behind VIVA Home, in the building called Uncang Emas A, level 3. It opens every day 11am-7pm, I think. Budget 200 can get decent bat+rubber for noob. Amateurs may need 300++ for decent combination. You want chopping or smashing? You can't have both without compromising one of the aspects. Choppers prefer slower bats, so smashing with that needs more force and tends to be less powerful.

I want more focus on smashing. Anything specific like what brand of rubbers, paddle you would recommend??
*
If you can afford it, go for Andro Hexer+ rubber. I'm using it now. It's very nice for fast play and smashing, even with mild-moderate downspin. It's about 140. Or Palio Macro ERA. About 130 with similar characteristics. Lower-budget range may not give the same satisfaction and ease of use, but maybe those between 50-100 can do the trick too. I primarily use short pimple, so I don't know much about smooth ones... laugh.gif

As for bat, most carbon bats around 150-250 should be good enough, I guess. All my bats cost around 100-150. Anything more, I'll really have to reconsider. I have confidence in my skills, even with lesser bats. cool2.gif

Medium pimple?? Not easy to use. It's characteristic is somewhat strange. Do you refer to any sifu or reading materials to learn it?

right now, i play at salak tinggi sepang,
there got many good players, me just noob only,

so abang polis who also play there teach me basics of pimple,
he said if first time using pimple, must change mindset from soft rubber,
so he taught me a trick to see the net when returning the ball instead of see the other side of table like normally u do when playing soft rubber..

so i follow the step, whatever ball i receive, just see the net and return the ball so it passes the net only, dont care where it lands yet..

after two weeks.. Now i no need see the net already, cos my hand already adapting..
after quite confident, i tried a practice match with players at my level, who i always loose before using pimple..
not bad i can say lol.. Either win big, or loose small..

hehe..

now abit menyesal dint use pimple rubber long time ago.. If not, sure lagi better..
play using pimples also means use less energy..
*
Thought so. Salak Tinggi Sepang? So far out...

I use short pimple. Tried various type before. Now settle on XIOM ZAVA. Suits my play better. But difficult for opponent during normal practice. So sometimes I just loop or straight change to smooth rubber to compensate. brows.gif brows.gif

Mine is custom but dint maintain much, the rubber feels like dry already. laugh.gif

My friend is yinhe, not sure its a supermarket or custom, but feels good yo!

errr, is there speed glue which is legal? unsure.gif
like water based type?
*
Yinhe is the new China brand. Seems not that bad, but of course your mileage will vary.

Speed glue = organic glues like those selling 25-30 per bottle of 300 ml. Smell very strong. Should be transparent looking.
Water-based = new ITTF standard. Less/non toxic. A little more pricey. Should be whitish in color.

*Note* Mixing the use of organic and water-based glue on the same bat-rubber combination may caused permanent fixture that as if you're using superglue. Or so, I was told... smile.gif

I visited Table Tennis Shop S/B in Sri Petaling. Bought the DHS P104 net and stand. Had a chat with Kho Mao Sheng. Nice guy. He briefed me on the day/time of a week for ordinary members to play at the centre. RM120/month. They have coaching clinic for adults too. Oldest player playing at the centre is 71 years old.

Can't remember the pricing. Waiting for him to buzz me on the details. Walk-in pricing is fairly expensive at RM50 per visit as they don't encourage walk-in.
*
RM 120/month sounds very $$$.... blink.gif blink.gif

Hi wanna ask opinion about blade.
What is the pro/con of heavy blade; and lightweight blade?

Usually for shakehand blade, how much (gram) is consider heavy already?
*
Attack style players usually prefer light bats so they can perform faster swings. Also less tiring with a lot of upward swings. Choppers can afford to use heavy bats since they mostly do downward motion and the added weight of the bat may ease up some work. Make use of gravity. laugh.gif

I am interested. How much is the per session or monthly fee?
*
I play there regularly, so I pay RM 4 per session. Otherwise, it's RM 6-8 per session, I think. You'll need to check with the owner...

I don't know people in the club. Whether they want to play with you or not depends on your PR skills. I went to PJ Union and talked to the boss (you can check my earlier posting on fees and charges), he said it is best to bring someone along. So, are you keen?
*
QUOTE(Richard114 @ Nov 27 2014, 10:24 AM)
haha, I know the fees and charges. From online review by others, I thought can go alone and just play since my friends dont interest on PingPong LOL. Then, I better find someone willing to go with me. haha
*
The boss is very friendly (business ma... laugh.gif ). He said the same thing to me too, but if you have some 'titles', then for sure the gang will play with you. tongue.gif Mind you, the gang there are very good. Almost state level (most of them). But I think I can challenge them... sweat.gif sweat.gif

What time are you going this Friday? Can I be your sparring partner? If we can be regular, I like to join their regular session.

Me no title also, just a little more practice and I can be very consistent with my shots.
*
I'm planning to go there around 7pm. I'd like to have a sparring partner, but my sparring requirement quite high one... tongue.gif
