Purely Unrecognised Terribly Ridiculous Awards

Somehow I believe its just an award to push a "feel-good" image. Mmm... nope... feel nothing... ooh... stomach feel-bad and will soon visit the toilet !

* Note : Previous comments removed. I was sleeping again ! Me bad. Smileguy already posted the link at "http://www.aaaa.org.my/activities/2011activity_002_governors.html" which shows the judges who voted for this award.

Allowing all subscribers to watch all 130 existing channels for 10 days means absolutely nothing to me. The reason why I don't subscribe to some packages is because I don't watch the channels in those packages and to pay less.

All of the Astro channels are available for free viewing right now (including AOD and HD) except Astro First and Astro Box Office Sports... biggrin.gif

I straightly called astro just now to subscribe for HD service, and voila! All of the HD channels can be viewed... Even for ten days, but it's already enough for me who just paid RM50 [for basic family+PVR service] per month as a monthly subscription fees... laugh.gif

My post here is all about the HD service and HD channels, not about SD channels.

I think I should explain much more clearly on the HD Service (additional RM 20 per month) for people who are not clear or did not know that this service do not automatically include ALL HD channels and subject to which existing packages is subscribed.

Because Assteruk is so "proud" to be awarded with the "Pooteruk Awards" as the so-called "people's choice for the best of the best brand", Assteruk unlocked many of the SD and HD channels for all subscribers for 10 days, but it does NOT include ALL Astro First (SD & HD) and SOME ABO (Astro Box Office) SD channels. I just wonder how the panel of judges made their decision to give the Gold Award for Media & Entertainment to Assteruk ? Did these judges make any survey from Assteruk subscribers and are they so blind to any dissatisfaction from many subscribers ? Enough said. Therefore, starting from 27-04-2012, we can watch almost all the SD and HD channels for 10 days so, I do agree that at least this is a great "bonus" for many subscribers.

From what you mentioned... "RM50 [for basic family+PVR service] per month", its actually this amount below (Per Month)...

(1) For Byond (External "PVR Easi" 320 GB Harddisk provided free)
Basic (Family Pack) = RM 37.95
HD Service = RM 20
External Harddisk PVR Service = RM 5 (not RM 10)
Total = RM 62.95 *

(2) For Byond PVR (with internal 500 GB harddisk)
Basic (Family Pack) = RM 37.95
HD Service = RM 20
PVR Service = RM 10 (not RM 15)
Total = RM 67.95 *

* Not include 6% Govt Tax

EDIT : Thanks to AjkR06 for correcting my mistake on the PVR service monthly charge.

Refer to this link for actual monthly fee calculation... http://www.astro.com.my/mypackages/articles/art_5156.html

I believe you already knew that the total HD channels you can watch depends on what packages is subscribed.

If subscribed to Movies Pack, we can watch SD channels (Ch 411 HBO Asia, Ch 412 Max, Ch 413 Fox Movies Premium) and with subscription to HD service, we can also watch HD channels (Ch 431 HBO HD Asia, Ch 433 Fox Movies Premium HD and Ch 438 Sundance Channel HD). Eventhough subscribed to HD service, if we did NOT subscribe to Movies Pack, we cannot watch Ch 431, Ch 433 and Ch 438 HD channels!

When you subscribed to only the Basic (Family) Pack of RM 37.95, here are the SD channels that is included (inside spoilers)...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

What I see is that SD Ch 701 AXN (marked in red box) is included so can also watch HD Ch 721 AXN HD.

With subscription to HD service, such subscribers can watch HD channels that are NOT tied to any SD packs, and can only watch HD ones tied to SD pack when such packs are subscribed.

I believe that all HD service subscribers can watch these HD channels...
Ch 309 Celestial HD, Ch 393 One HD, Ch 706 LiTV/Food Network, Ch 720 beTV, Ch 726 FX HD and Ch 729 Kix HD
... because these HD channels are not "tied" to any packages.

That means, with your Basic (Family) Pack + HD service, you can only watch 7 HD channels which are...
Ch 309 Celestial HD, Ch 393 One HD, Ch 721 AXN HD, Ch 706 LiTV/Food Network, Ch 720 beTV, Ch 726 FX HD and Ch 729 Kix HD... by paying extra RM 20 per month!

EDIT : Thanks to agingamer for correcting my mistake on the total HD channels not tied to any packages.

Presently, there are a total of 18 HD channels, and another 3 Astro First HD channels. Astro First is Pay Per View so its not included and need to pay "extra" to watch a movie.

I did not subscribe to any SuperPacks or Sports Pack but the packs I subscribed allowed me to watch 14 HD channels. I cannot watch Ch 722 Star World HD and 3 HD channels in Sports Pack.

For me, pay extra RM 20 per month get to watch 14 HD channels.
For you, pay extra RM 20 per month get to watch 7 HD channels.

Because of this "special 10 days" which allowed all 18 HD channels (3 Astro First HD not included), if you are still not sure how many HD channels you can watch with only your Basic pack, you can phone to Astro Customer Support to ask. After the special 10 days, the total HD channels will return to only 7 for you.

Yes... maybe you already knew this when you subscribe to HD service. I do respect your personal opinion on whether its worth to pay the "extra" RM 20 to watch only 7 HD channels. Its up to you.

However, there may be some people who read your post and subscribed to HD service hastily without knowing whether its worth it to pay extra RM 20 per month because how many HD channels can be watched depends also on which "Packages" is subscribed.

Please don't misunderstand me because each person have the right to their own opinions on whether its worth it or not. What I am trying to advise is... for others not to rush into subscribing to HD service, to find out more and think carefully first before deciding. If not sure, call Astro Customer Support to ask how many HD channels can be watch with your existing subscribed packages.

One thing that I can be sure is that SuperPack 3 subscribers can watch all 18 HD channels. The 3 additional Astro First HD channels is separate PPV and have to pay to watch only selected movie (2 day period to watch).

An actual story (inside spoilers)...

Thanks for your feedback and kind words! Will also edit my previous post to correct the "PVR Service monthly fee" mistakes. I used this link..."http://www.astro.com.my/mypackages/articles/art_5156.html"... to find out the price by ticking on "Personal Video Recorder Service" and "External Hard Drive PVR Service" by comparing the difference so it seems the indicated price is not correct.

There will be confusion for some people when we mentioned about the "PVR" which means "Personal Video Recording/Recorder" so I am posting the picture below to show the difference...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As shown, both the Byond box and Byond PVR box can be used as PVR but the difference is the harddisk used for recording.

The Byond box use an external 320GB harddisk for recording. Previously, Astro recommended the WD My Passport AV 320GB (2.5 inch) USB2.0 external harddisk to connect by USB to the Byond box but it seems that this harddisk is no longer available now. Therefore Astro have now relaunched the PVR EASi box for the Byond box. I have previously posted the PVR EASi internal picture which is actually a WD 320GB (2.5 inch) harddisk put inside a fancy casing. Reposting the PVR EASi internals here...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The Byond PVR box already have an internal 500GB (3.5 inch) harddisk so it does NOT require the PVR EASi.

For the Byond box, the Astro recommended WD My Passport AV is not available now, the PVR EASi is required.

I phoned to Astro Customer Support to recheck on the the PVR EASi and found out that I made a mistake.

The PVR EASi box is NOT free and we have to pay RM 80 (one time charge) to get it ! Actually its not expensive if we compare it to other external 2.5 inch 320 GB harddisk especially when harddisk prices have increased a lot due to last year's floods in Thailand. Also, many PC sellers only have minimum 500 GB stocks now.

Ok, back to the PVR service topic. Here is the corrected info...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Getting the PVR EASi is also optional if we already have earlier purchased the WD My Passport AV 320GB harddisk. I have earlier purchased 2 WD My Passport for RM 230 each in 2010 which I used for other storage purposes. So I can choose not to "buy" the PVR EASi. Eventhough Assteruk recommended whatever harddisk types to use, I have not tried on other 320GB external harddisk brands so these may or may not work. I did not subscribe to the PVR service so I don't have the opportunity to test.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I repeat... for PVR service... ONLY the Byond box need to connect an external harddisk (USB2.0) recommended by Assteruk... PVR EASi box or the WD My Passport AV 320GB harddisk (not available now)

Actually when I compare the price I bought my WD My Passport at RM 230 with PVR EASi at RM 80... mmm... wth current harddisk prices, I think we already know the answer whether its worth it or not to get the PVR EASi !

I was also told by Astro support person that there is no contract for subscribing to PVR Service so we can cancel this any time BUT there may be the ridiculous RM 10 service charge for downgrading of selected Assteruk packages and services.

That means for you, it may not be just paying RM 20 for 1 month HD Service by cancelling before the 2nd month. It may be RM 20 (HD Service) + RM 10 (Service Charge) = RM 30 just to enjoy the 10 days "free" viewing of "all" the HD channels.

I hope I have cleared any confusion about the "PVR" acronym used on the Byond and Byond PVR boxes.

I am repeating my advice here for people who may not know anything about subscribing to the HD Service... please check carefully first, properly understand it and then decide whether its worth it to subscribe to HD service for short term or for long term ! Just don't simply jump into it and regret later.

In my personal opinion, I suspect the 10 days "free" view of 130 channels as "reward" for being "awarded the people's brand choice" maybe just a cover to hide a very very very clever TRICK that Assteruk is playing to trap subscribers who did not check clearly first before signing in to the HD Service. Only my "unfair" opinion but think about it !

QUOTE(jalsrix @ Apr 28 2012, 11:50 PM)
yes, all channels.

message = pvr functionality not available !

i lost all my recorded programs before yesterday.

and i cannot record any more programs since yesterday.

does anyone have this problem ?

Remove all setting for schedule recording to make sure NO future schedule recording is set. Then try switch off your Byond (not standby), wait a few minutes, then switch on again. When it reboots, don't touch anything and wait until the clock is shown (with the correct time) on the Byond panel. If your Byond time still shows 00:00 after a very long time, then something is wrong... call Astro Customer Support.

A funny thing happened to my Byond box on the day the 130 "free" channels started (about 1 am on 27-04-12). I do not have PVR service. I was watching Ch 571 Discovery HD World and when I pressed the [OK] button on my remote to show the channel info, the info shown was Ch 101 TV1 !! ALL the different channels I changed always show Ch 101 !! What happened... is my Byond box spoilt ? Then I completely switched off power to my Byond (not standby), waited about 10 minutes and switched on again... waited for it to reboot until the time is displayed in standby... wow... everything go back to normal. Mmm... don't know if it will help but you can try it, will not damage your Byond but make sure all schedule recording is off first.

If this "reboot" method still do not solve your problem, then call Astro Customer Support for help and to check that your PVR function is not accidentally deactivated because of this 10 day "free" 130 channels.

QUOTE(AhBoy~~ @ May 1 2012, 07:05 PM)
hi, does anyone know if Family + Dynasty + Byond inc Celestial Movies HD?

because now my package is Famly+ dyn doesn't incl Celestial so is HD service include this channel?

Yes, I can confirm that you can watch Ch 309 Celestial HD channel with the HD Service (RM 20 per month) subscription.

The Emporer Pack and Celestial Movices Pack include Ch 322 Celestial Movies (SD) channel. Since you did not subscribe to these 2 packs, you cannot get Ch 322 which is SD channel.

However, Ch 309 is included for ALL HD Service subscribers. I also did not subscribe to these 2 packs so when Ch 309 HD was launched, I can watch this HD channel and confirmed when I phoned to Astro Customer Support.

In my earlier post, I mentioned that ALL HD Service subscribers can watch 5 HD channels but agingamer corrected me who mentioned that its actually 7 HD channels. I made a mistake when I earlier did not mention Ch 706 LiTV/Food Network HD and Ch 720 beTV HD.

I repeat, here are the 7 "basic" HD channels that ALL HD service subscribers can watch ...
Ch 309 Celestial HD
Ch 393 One HD
Ch 721 AXN HD *
Ch 706 LiTV/Food Network
Ch 720 beTV
Ch 726 FX HD
Ch 729 Kix HD

* Tied to Basic (Family) Pack.

These 7 HD channels are not "tied" to any packages. All Astro subscribers must subscribe to the Basic (Family) Pack.

Ch 310 Zhi Zun HD channel is tied to the Dynasty Pack which you subscribed, so you can also watch this.

With your "Family + Dynasty + HD Service", you can now watch 8 HD channels from total 18 ones.

Example of HD channels tied to a subscription Pack... Movies Pack which include Ch 411 HBO, Ch 412 MAX, Ch 413 Fox Movies Premium, HD channels tied to it... Ch 431 HBO HD, Ch 432 Fox Movies Premium HD and Ch 438 Sundance HD. So... if you did not subscribe to Movies Pack, eventhough you got HD Service, you cannot watch Ch 431, Ch 432 and Ch 438.

It is not correct to say... "Family + Dynasty + Byond". Byond is only the name of the decoder box which can receive both SD and HD channels. Astro Byond is the brand name of the product for HD channels reception. When the Byond decoder was launched, the "old type" Astro DMT box have been discontinued so new Astro subscribers will only get the new Byond box. Such new subscribers who did not subscribe to HD Service will get the Byond box with HD function not activated.

Only for "old" subscribers who got the old Astro DMT box who now want to subscribe to the HD Service MUST change to the new Byond box because the old box cannot receive HD channels. When the box is replaced to the new Byond box, a new 1 year contract is tied to it. You can choose to keep the old box by paying RM 100 (I paid this amount to keep mine when I upgraded mine to Byond box in 2010), so its up to you.

If you are still not sure or don't believe, you can always call Astro Customer Support to make sure. Its toll-free and costs only local call charges from the house land-line phone.

Hope my explanation is clear enough for you, hehe. cool.gif

QUOTE(ronn77 @ May 2 2012, 11:00 PM)
Hi guys, I need some advise here.

I just bought a HDMI Wireless transmitter and a switcher (3 in, 1 out). The purpose is to share my decoder which is on living room so my masteroom can view the same channel via transmitter. However I do not know how to configure which in and out on this switcher hence need some advise here on which to out and in.

Any advise sifus?

I love seafood but I am not a sifu, only someone who knows a little.

Are you using SAROWIN HD-10 Wireless HDMI Transmitter & Receiver Kit ? You did not mention what brand.

Anyway, it does not matter what brand you use because the connections should be the same. From your explanation, that means you are using 3 different component units... 1 transmitter unit, 1 receiver unit and 1 switch unit.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words so I have drawn this illustration graphics to show you (inside spoiler)...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Actually, different brands call the transmitter, receiver and switch units with different names but I think you can easily identify which is which from my graphics shown above.

If you have the Sarowin HD-10 Kit, there is also a fully compatible Sarowin HDMI Switch (4 In/1 Out) which can directly be joined together without extra HDMI cable connection.

Since you mentioned that you are using an HDMI Switch (3 In/1 Out), that means you are not using the Sarowin HDMI Switch (4 In/1 Out).

You did not mention anything about whether your HDMI Wireless transmitter OR the switcher support relay of IR signal which allow you to use your remote control from your master room. As you already know, you can connect 3 different sources such as Byond box, Blu-ray Player, Dune HD Mediaplayer which have HDMI outputs to your Switcher. Do your Switcher have IR signal cable which can be stuck in front of your 3 sources ? Or do your HDMI Wireless transmitter have this IR signal cable ?

If only your HDMI Wireless transmitter have this IR signal cable and connected to Byond, then I am not sure whether you can or cannot use the remote controls for the other 2 sources as shown in my graphics above... only your Byond remote control can be used in your master room. I am only guessing because you did not give very detailed info about your HDMI Wireless transmitter and Switcher.

So there are also the IR (Infra Red) connections which are needed to allow 3 different sources (including Byond) to be used with each of the 3 different sources remote controls in your master room !

I can show the IR connections using the Sarowin HDMI Switcher (4 In/1 Out) as an example...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

... as you can see, there is an extra IR cable connection to the "IR Extender Box" which have 4 different IR transmitter cables put in front and pointing at the IR sensor of each source such as the Byond box, Blu-ray player, etc.

The connections become more complicated when an AV Receiver amplifier is also used with 4 sources connected to it and want to share these sources in another room ! Not possible unless the AV Receiver support HDMI signal passthrough when switched off. There are also other methods too, such as using media streamer boxes, network cables, etc. Mmm... I will not explain and just leave this out now, hehe.

I hope I did not confuse you with my explanations. Actually you should ask the person who sold you the HDMI Wireless transmitter and a switcher for help because that seller is the best person who knows the product well. Also, many people may not understand the manual or... hehe... many don't actually read it. I always read all my product manuals when I purchased them.

If you have anymore questions or anything you still don't understand, you can ask me again BUT please give more detailed info about your units. I cannot promise to be able to answer everything correctly and may be late a few days to reply. Hope I have helped.

cool.gif

ADDITION
I almost forgot about 3D ! Assteruk sometimes broadcast live football matches in active shutter 3D. If you have a 3D HDTV, you can watch such "3D" matches. Also, 3D blu-ray player also play 3D blu-ray discs. BUT all the equipment must support HDMI 1.4 standard so if your HDMI Wireless transmitter and switcher is only HDMI 1.3c ready, then you will not be able to get 3D in your master room with a 3D TV ! There is also a sync signal for left and right eye that need to be relayed too and HDMI cables that support the HDMI 1.4 Standard must also be used.

First of all, I enjoyed your postings regarding the technical aspect of Byond decoder and Satellite TV.
However, some of the rantings have crept in with some non technical issues.
I believe there are some threads in RWI for you to express that instead of posting it here. Just my opinion only.  icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes, you have the right to express your personal opinion about my posts. In future, I will not express non technical issues here and express them in other more appropriate places. I have no offense to your comment regarding the non technical issues and your advise is duly noted so no problem for me, hehe. Thanks. Hope my "rantings" have not offended you. Yes, I understood what you meant when the Sarowin HD10 Transmitter have only 1 HDMI In, NO HDMI Out. I do not have the Sarowin Kit and did not read more info on it so I downloaded the Sarowin manual and read it.

I will redraw my graphics to show different connections which uses only 1 HDMI IN to the Sarowin Transmitter.

Ok, I have redrawn my graphics for the connections (inside spoilers)...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Since your Sarowin HD-10 Transmitter only have 1 HDMI IN, the HDMI Switcher (3 in/1 out) cannot be used because you need to connect your TV in the living room too. Refer to my redrawn graphics and you will see why you need to have a Switcher with 3 In/2 Out !

Here is another graphic showing the actual Sarowin Transmitter (1 In only) + Sarowin (4 In/2 Out)...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

According to the Sarowin manual, the Sarowin HDMI Switcher actually have 2 HDMI out... one connect to the Sarowin Transmitter and one connect to the TV.

Mmm... are there other brand HDMI Switchers that have 3 In and 2 Out ?

From the manual, the Sarowin Transmitter also have IR sensor BUT I am not sure whether all the remote controls can work or not for all 3 source (Byond, Blu-ray Play, Dune HD Mediaplayer) connected to another brand HDMI Switcher (3 In/2 Out). You may find that your 3 remotes cannot be used in your master room with the Sarowin Receiver. This is because you need to have the Sarowin IR Extender box (with A/C adapter) to connect 3 IR signal transmitter cables with the Sarowin Switcher. Sarowin is very clever because the Sarowin Transmitter do not have IR port to connect to the Sarowin IR Extender box, only the Sarowin Switcher have the IR port connection.

So... you cannot use your other brand HDMI Switcher (3 In/1 Out) and there is no IR port at the Sarowin Transmitter. Only after you are completely satisfied with only 1 Byond connection to your Sarowin first, then you have no choice and my best advice is for you to grab the Sarowin HDMI Switcher which comes together with the IR Extender Box and all the IR transmitter cables. I guess you can use the other brand HDMI Switcher (3 In/1 Out) for other purposes.

I hope I have finally answered your questions.

No problem to ask any noob questions as nobody knows everything, including me. smile.gif

I don't think your 3in-1out HDMI switch able to perform what you want to do. You need a HDMI splitter such as 1in-2out or the Sarowin 4in-2out. This way 1 output goes to TV and another output goes to Sarowin transmitter.

How much did you paid for the Sarowin HD10. I was thinking of buying the same but found that Winstar WS-AV511SR is the same design but much cheaper than Sarowin.
Earlier, I did not know what brand that ronn77 bought but when he replied that he bought the Sarowin kit, I found out later and realised that the Sarowin Transmitter only have 1 HDMI IN and no OUT so I then posted my reply that he need to have 2 HDMI Out for the Switcher unit. There is the issue of IR relay connection for the remotes too if other brand HDMI Switcher is used.

Yes, when I first heard of the Sarowin kit, I was initially interested for use with my Byond but I found out that its pricey (RM 1000++ for Transmitter+Receiver+Switcher) so I decided not to get it. You have mentioned the Winstar WS-AV511SR as another choice which I will check on it. Thanks. Mmm... may I know where it is sold ?

If ronn77 can return the Sarowin kit he bought... its better to look for cheaper alternatives that provide the same HDMI features. If he cannot return it, then he has no choice and should get the Sarowin Switcher (4 In/2 Out).

Bro, thanks for your effort to help me and much appreciated  thumbup.gif
Anyway I think I need 2 out in my splitter to fulfill my requirements as 1 out to TV and another out to Transmitter, right?

Added on May 3, 2012, 11:38 am

It costs me RM799, quite pricey but if it does the job and I can enjoy earlier than I don't really mind. Anyway becareful as some cheaper brand tend to have more distortion compared to branded one.

As for the splitter, maybe you got it right and seems I'm wasted my Rm129 for the 3 in and 1 out splitter  sad.gif

Yes, you have no choice so buying the Sarowin Switcher is the best option in my opinion because of the IR signal connection for the remote control. I think your total cost will reach RM 1000+ when the Sarowin Switcher is included. Not sure about the actual price now for "everything included" in the Sarowin kit.

Yes, 2 HDMI Out is required for the HDMI Switcher. Refer to my graphic which I later posted showing the Sarowin Switcher with 4 In / 2 Out.

I do agree that we have to be careful when choosing cheaper brands which may not be reliable so making sure is important.

Mmm... if you can.... return... your Sarowin kit to the seller... its better to look for a cheaper option that can provide the same HDMI features AND must also be reliable and have reasonable quality. It may not be easy to find a good and cheaper alternative. Mmm... I don't think the seller will allow any return, which is fair for any purchase, unless the seller earlier agreed to let you test it first, hehe.

Kimyee73 have replied and suggested Winstar WS-AV511SR. No harm to check this brand out but I am NOT suggesting that you buy it. I don't know anything about this brand so I cannot make any comments. Kimyee73 knows much more than me about this brand.

Whatever, only my personal opinion to choose other brands because I know nothing about them ! blush.gif

ADDITION - Winstar WS-AV511SR
Kimyee73 is right ! The Winstar WS-AV511SR look exactly the same as the Sarowin HD-10, just like a photostat copy and its selling at RM 550 for the complete set, WINSTAR WS-AV511SR Wireless 5G HD AV Kit w/HDMI Switch + IR (4-HDMI-IN-2-HDMI-OUT). I dare not take the risk to buy online from the malaysian online shopping site which sells this especially when the quoted price is so low. Its easy to find this malaysian seller, just google for it but be very careful of the risks from buying online, especially from unknown sites.

This product is manufactured by Winstars Technology, headquartered in Shenzhen, China. Did Winstar manufactured this product for Sarowin or the other way round ?

You are welcome.

Actually, when Chikana mentioned "when you see 'boot' on the front...", it means power is switched off completely and then switched on back again, 'boot' appears and then press standby... which is only necessary when auto-update did not start.

When the Byond is switched on (not from standby), usually auto-update will automatically start if an update is available so its not necessary to follow Chikana's method. Just wait when Byond is switched on... 'boot' appears and auto-update will start. If auto-update did not start, then use Chikana's method.

FYI... there is NO new update for the normal Byond box at the present time which is still at version 3.0s. Take note... for people with the normal Byond box and the old Astro DMT box... because no update will happen at the present time, eventhough whatever method is used !

ONLY for people with the Byond PVR (with internal harddisk), there is an update to version 7 which also enable use of the ethernet port. If your's is NOT Byond PVR, then no update is available and the version is still 3.0s eventhough you forced update !!

For the normal Byond box (non PVR), the ethernet port still cannot be used yet for now.

You are welcome.

I did expect people with the normal Byond (non PVR) box to misunderstand when "Nujikabane and others" with the Byond PVR mentioned about the new update to version 7.0. Normally auto-update will always start (if a new update is available) when the decoder box is switched on (not from standby). Nujikabane wanted to know the method mentioned by Chikana to manually "force" update to start if auto-update failed, hehe.

Yes, today morning the Byond box (not Byond PVR) also got software updated to version 7.0. Now can plug in the ethernet cable and successfully detected my modem.

Note... the Byond box network connection is not used for watching Astro On-The-Go directly on TV. Astro On-The-Go is for watching channels streamed through internet to mobile smartphones but be careful of data charges from mobile telcos if not on monthly plan. At present, not available for android smartphones, will come in future. We can also use our streamyx broadband connection to watch Astro On-The-Go channels so that we don't have to pay data charges. If the modem got wifi, then can use smartphone internet browser to watch.

I think the Byond box network connection is used for selecting and confirming movies on Video On Demand so that we don't have to use sms or phone call to confirm purchase of any VOD movies to watch. I did not subscribe to PVR so cannot check what is inside the "Video On Demand" in the Home Menu. Please correct me if I am wrong. The Byond box network connection is definitely NOT for Astro On-The-Go service. Yes for VOD.

I watched the Astro On-The-Go preview channels using my computer internet browser and the streamed video quality is not HD and ... ah hem... is of course cannot compare with the Byond box direct to TV.

Channel 100 is now VOD Help.

* Byond PVR (with internal harddisk) software update started a few days ago.

Maybe for Pace decoder only. Technicolor and Kaon decoder do not have the update yet.

Don't know anything yet about the Byond / Byond PVR "manufactured" by Technicolor and Kaon. My Byond, not PVR, (manufactured by Pace) was updated to version 7.0 early this morning at about 2 am.

Nak tanya
