I'd rather suggest newbies going for the rooting stage to follow something easier, like from this link:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360

This particular part is so easy, I don't think anyone can misinterpret it as anything other than what it is:-

-----------------------------------------Forget all Above and follow simple Step below------------------------------

1. I want just Root- download This
Now Execute RunMe – follow screen instruction

2. I Want ROOT + CWM
I will do with PC

Which kernel You have?

(Go to Settings -> About phone -> Kernel Version. Note the string present there: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKJ4-CL641703 Here Red is kernel version)

I have Kernel KJ1 - Download This – and Extract

I have Kernel KJ4 - Download This - and Extract

I Have Kernel KJ6 - Download this - and extract

I have Kernel KK1 - Download This - and Extract

NOW Ready to begin

I am Already Rooted - Execute "already-rooted.bat" and follow the instructions

I am Non-rooted - Execute "not-rooted-yet.bat" and follow the instructions.
More at that link.

Personally, I was out of the Android scene for a while, so I consider myself a newbie. I've rooted my Note suing the Zergrush method detailed on that link, and then decided I want ClockWorkMod (CWM) for Nandroid backup, so I went the "Already Rooted" route. Fine and dandy so far.

From a newbie's point of view, it's hard to read and understand these abbreviations (CWM?) and tech jargon like "kernels", and the reason why seasoned users look for Nandroid/ClockWorkMod Recovery options. Writeups are far and few in between, and new users are faced with the enormous task of understanding those in such short period of time, and are expected to be up to speed with it. That's where mistakes comes in. Personally, I went the documented way, and then try to understand what I did, being familiar a little bit about the scene. Imagine a real newbie from another mobile OS trying to digest all this.

You have to chase these people. I just received my ewarranty detail SMSed to me just now after bringing the matter up to the Celcom Center in Menara Atlan.Otherwise my warranty details unknown.

All they need is your IMEI number and the SMS you want your warranty details to be sent to. I wasn't comfortable giving IMEI number over the phone but I'd rather not have to chase more people to settle all this nonsense. I'm reminded on why I abhor contacted packages cases like this.

I think I won't root it, just like no JB my iPhone. Lazy reading the guides haha!

In this case you will need to root. Apps selection is paltry compared to apps available on Android Market on US telcos like T-Mobile. Without rooting, you get shitty local Android Market. You and me coming from selection-aplenty sources like iTunes Appstore, will fell the dearth of options if you stick to Malaysian Android Market. Trust me.

Also, Android's surefire way of completely backing up your phone involves rooting. Other than that, imagine reinstalling all your hundreds of apps one by one. Some of Android apps are spread over 2,3 apps when it comes to certain app features, and that complicates things. The only way to be certain is to do complete backup, and this requires rooting and "alternative" recovery method.

Are you talking about external memory card ? I NEVER have such problem as I always copy my stuffs from one card to another and I used these external SD cards interchangeably among all my androids inclusive tablets. Have been practicing this for the past 18 months since I started using Android.  Never have any problem the phone/tablet unable to detect the contents. Only exception is some games data ( Gameloft example )  - you need to redownload it
If you have moved apps to external SD card - you need to reinstall the apps and then select to force move to external SD card again

Bro, maybe we can refer to below link.

It's the Wacom digitizer grid lying underneath the screen for pen detection. Besides finger detection , the Note also has Wacom tech no recognize pen input for better accuracy during sketching, note taking, etc with the S-Pen. That's the only possible explanation I can think of, and I don't think anyone should worry much about it.

I also agree on the responses that same question you posed got in that link you mentioned. Don't have to continue worrying too much about everything.

Reading further, it seems that panels used in Samsung phones exhibits this. Unless you're ticked off or can't get that out of your mind, you can go for a return, but if most of them have it, how would the chances of you getting one without this? Also, you may have a perfect panel screen, but other manufacturing defects may crop up.

Bottom line is, if it works fine, without any reasonable flaws, it works as it should. This constant-worrying tic are generally abused by the Americans who exercise their return rights to get up to 5,6 replacement units, just to get a "perfect" unit. What happens to the over phones just opened to satisfy his irrational need for perfection?

I generally look at my unit, and use it vigorously based on my daily routine and see if it does perform as it's advertised. If it does, other minute niggly flaws, I don't take it as a basis for a return.

Apples to oranges. I still have my iPhone 4S and Note working side by side for me. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Make sure you got your unit registered under e-warranty, most if not all these Celcom center/Celcom Blue Cube people are more interested in your money and signing you up for a contract plan, than making sure your unit is registered under warranty. I had to chase them around today to get it done.

Your usage between iPhone 4S & Note, which one you use to Organizing your work /Schedules ?
eg. Contacts, Calender, Messege, SMS, Notes.
*
I treat my Note as a replacement for my iPad 2. So for work, it works quite nicely. Any phone related activities, I still delegate it to my iPhone 4S.

Does Samsung Note suitable for reading e-Books ?
Anyone try it before ?

iPhone screen to small, iPad screen okay but not portable for me enough.

Someone here likes to read e-Books ? Convincing ?
*
I have an account with Zinio, an subscription to T3 and Stuff Magazine in there, and it is a BEAUTY to read magazine on it. I'm also an avid reader, so reading on the Note is fantastic as well.

They are both competent enough. If you like to work with a bigger screen, then the Note have you better covered there.

To me, personally, it's about the apps. And how much you've invested in the apps ecosystem. If you've spent much on a particular mobile OS, you tend to stay with that ecosystem. That case applies to me with iOS/iPhone 4S. The same case if the user doesn't invest at all on apps in an ecosystem (get his apps from "alternative means"), then he's not emotionally and financially invested in that mobile OS, therefore he doesn't feel much difference if he leaves for another mobile OS. In this case, only you can answer that question.

I'm grateful I can support myself enough to dabble in two mobile OSes, I know some have to choose one or the other. My advice is try both, ask yourself what you wanna use it for, and match it with the right hardware, and supporting apps. There will be tradeoffs, but see which one you can live with.

Just purchased a Sandisk 64GB microSDXC from LowYat Plaza. RM500. Was offered a Kingmax 64GB microSDXC for RM450 but am more confident of the Sandisk brand. In the process of transferring the Galaxy Note data over from my old 16GB microSD Transcend.

Both Sandisk and Kingmax 64GB microSDXC is Class 6, while the Transcend is Class 10. Opted for space versus speed. Hopefully Class 6 not too slow.

The 64GB microSDXC can only be formatted to exFat or NTFS file system only. Therefore it's formatted to exFAT for use in my Galaxy Note with formatted size of 59.6GB free.

It's good that you pick Sandisk instead of Kingmax. My 16GB Kingmax Class 10 just went kaput after one year of using it :-( Lucky for the lifetime warranty so gonna claim a new one this Monday. My 16GB Sandisk Class 4 still kicking alive even after three years of using.
::thinking of getting the 64GB::

My only fear is that "media scanning" will take a significant amount of time to complete. The Note replaces my iPad 2, so I'm filling it up with music, TV Shows and movies. Shame that Android file system only supports maximum 4GB file size. :/

It will not copy over. You'll have to break your file into chunks. Very messy.

You've answered your own question already. The MKVs downloaded are already stripped down. Compressing it further, you might as well just use a lower resolution movie.

The thing is, the Note is advertised to play MKVs and XviDs, but the 4GB limitation means its limited to lower bitrate videos at 720p resolution only. Adding AC3 5.1 only bloats its further.

"Avatar Extended Edition" clocks in at 3.8GB MP4 so that is dangerously close to the limit. It looks phenomenal though, thanks to the Note's deep black levels. Which is the reason why I picked a black Galaxy Note over the white, makes movie watching experience seamless, instead of an obvious white border on the white Note.

Please let us know the result of usage in GNote later.See can it be recognised without problem and whether it affect other functionality, thanks.

Talking about the formating to NTFS, how you do it? By PC or Gnote itself or pre-formated already when you purchase it.
*
Will do. So far it's recognized and works fine.

Do not format it via the PC. Doing so will render the card unreadable. Format using the Note. I made the mistake of formatting it on my Libretto W100 with its microSDHC card slot, to exFAT. The card is unreadable once I slot it into the Note. Had to reformat on the Note, and then transfer data back to the card.

I suppose the 64GB microSDXC is not formatted FAT32 now by the Note.

Play around with the bitrate and/or include stereo sound only. Some video encoders set target file size and automates the video bitrates calculations.

Dongle doesn't work. Huddle it is. In addition to the Celcom 1GB data allocation from the RM88 plan.

Thanks for your guide. i will bear in mind then. I haven't got GNote, so doesn't know how the formatting work there. Any indication when you formatting your 64GB stated format type (FAT32 or NTFS) . If not how to confirm it was then okay with NTFS... or just to copy a file size more than 4GB to confirm???I am asking so much because i am thinking to buy a 64GB too to replace my 32GB Class 10 which i bought less than a month ago...
*
It's FAT32, still limited to 4GB. Until Google does something and extends support to NTFS or exFAT, that 4GB file barrier remains.

Formatting the card on the PC with exFAT or NTFS results in unrecognized card when inserted into the Note, which requires you to format it within the Note, resulting in FAT32 anyway.

To check your card, try copying a file size bigger than 4GB, anything other than NTFS/exFAT, it will not copy over.

Done modding the Note, all I need now is a transparent email widget, and I'm good to go.

ADW EX Launcher with 3D UI with MultiLive Wallpaper, WP7 Contacts and Dialer + ChompSMS for that iPhone-like conversation texting, Alt Drawer for WP7/iOS/Grid-like app drawer.

I'd be hesitant to mod it this way if it would've been a lesser-powered Android device, but with the Note, I pushed it and it still gives me smooth operation.

I still need a transparent email widget though, to complement Colorize FB/Twitter widgets I have onboard. Otherwise, there's a big gaping hole of 4x4 grid that's meant for that email widget. Any suggestions?
