Considering the fact that this is an organisation (AmiAmi) and not a another person you are paying too, chances are better since AmiAmi is too big to get into trouble with the law, unlike a scammer which has no name and can run off. Been using this method for almost err..... 3 years+, so far no problems (touch wood).
As for EMS, its tracks the "state" of the parcel, not its locations.
It will say something like "departed from outward OE (office of exchange)" meaning it has left JP and en-route to your country.
Or "arrival at inward OE" meaning it has arrived at postal/customs depending on your country of residence.
