Those of you wish to install storage heater, I would suggest you have to think twice before buying Joven product. I have used Joven before and was long lasting but I am not sure now.

Purchase a 35L JH35HE On Oct 2015.
Heating element died and replaced on Jan 2019 (Died around 3.3 years)

Then same element died and replaced on Jul 2019 (died 6 months)

In March 2020, the same element died again (died 8 months).

Now changing to another brand.

Yes, Joven last time was good. My original lasted almost 15 years. After replacing another Joven, element dead within 1 1/2 years. So messy to change until my ceiling all wet.

Damn.. I was planning to buy the same model until I read this 

So what brand do you recommend?

I don't care now, just bought Midea because Modes offers 7 years warranty for tank and 4 years on heating element.

I don't trust other brand that only offers 1 year warranty.

For Midea at least I don't have to bother for 4-5 years

hello guys, anyone using Storage Water Heater, can recommend a good brand? I was using a Elton Electric Storage Water Heater but now leaking. Since it is out of warranty already so thinking of getting a new one. Thanks.

I'm using Joven the 35L and the heater element shorted after more than 10 years. This is normal since the copper is always submerged in the water. The point near the socket looked like a bit corroded and that I suspected causing the MCB to trip.

The shop where I bought the unit told me that normally people just change to new unit instead. I asked if they sell replacement heater. They said yes and and it cost only RM90. A new similar since would be more than RM500 if not mistaken.

There are 2 type. One is straight with single bend and the other one is shorter where the heater element is folded to make is shorter. I chose the longer straight one so the heat location is more spread. Original one is long also.

Tried to change myself but the space is tight and the locking hex nut size to very wide. If use bigger wrench also cannot slide in that tight space. I asked the shop if they have any contact fro person who is doing heater installation. They have.

The guy said he devised his own tool for this specific purpose  :thumbsup:  Replacement took about half an hour and now it has been probably 5 years already.

The heater is still okay on top of the ceiling and no corrosion or leak.

Joven or Elton only. But Elton is pricier. Couldn't find much review though.

Mine is Horizontal. Cannot remember the model but 35L one and only one JH for horizontal, right?

Like I said, I cannot replace myself because no proper tool. It is not difficult. Just remove the wire and turn the heat element out. The element base has screw thread.

As I mentioned, big opening spanner is bulky and space is tight. You cannot unscrew from side. No space. Blocked by wiring cover etc. You need something like big hex spanner that can be inserted straight from behind the heater base. The heater element should be around Rm100 or RM120 the most. If RM250 for everything, then the next fault is worth replacing the whole unit 

I remembered spending Rm120 for everything, meaning the guy only took RM300 ( ). I bought the element RM90 myself and was on the ceiling helping the guy when needed like handing him towel to wipe water 

I have removed all the water through bleeding pipe. The installed said no need to put small bleeding pipe there but I insisted and it drip water into bathroom. Luckily I insisted. Still there was a lot of water flowed out after removing the heater.

Maybe last time always forget to off it! Turn on hot enough to make coffee. Now I used smart water heater switch, set to 8mins auto off.

Just use smart switch to replace the normal 20A wall switch and program using apps in phone I guess. Nowadays, there are a number of product available. last time no 20A switch

I'm a bit wary of using unpopular brand. Scared hard to get spare parts if something goes wrong. Like unpopular car brands in Malaysia 

Since there aren't much mechanical parts in the system, I would expect them to last at least 10-15years except for the heating element.

Don't know yet. Still waiting for defects to be rectified. Hopefully next week can start reno. Started to lose my patience already.

Eh. I didn't realized got so many. I saw in their website only vertical & horizontal model only.

I got quoted RM610. But i think that’s the basic model. No HE nor IB. I will ask again when I’m really buying.

Installation by my plumber. Price quoted lump sum including installing hot water pipes & everything.

I’m planning to buy the horizontal Joven 25l with HE. But one of the shops told me that her customers complained of corrosion & Joven’s slow customer service. She recommended Alpha storage heater instead.

Good news! The water heater exploded last night.

Is this a problem with the water heater itself or a repair job badly done by the technician? Where can I file a complaint if I want to?

Preferred instant one which is installed on the wall but contractor said I must use back the storage type. I don't know why.

He said there's an instant tankless type which is installed in the ceiling. Has anyone come across this type?
