if the power plug for the heater is preinstalled inside the shower room slightly above where the heater should be located, is it safe? since steam travel upwards. usually the plug/switch is located outside. in this case the plug is inside the showerroom do we need special installation or seal to prevent water mist going in?

also for such installation any reliable brand? just need safe & reliable. if got build in pump is good to have but normally i don't think will use it, but sometimes water pressure maybe low.

hows those standard models sold in shops like Panasonic?

I've had the socket in bathroom for more than 10 years and never has any problem with it. This socket is not meant to be switch on and off but I had a switch outside the bathroom. For the socket, I placed it high above the water heater.

It is not like you will have your bathroom like sauna. My bathroom is passively ventilated.

the switch outside did you add or original came with?

if i add this will it help? btw most plugs have same dimension right?

sauna no, but mirrors do get fogged up with the heater on.

My bathroom did not have socket for heater initially. I added a 3-pin socket (with switch) and place it high and cannot be access without chair or ladder. This socket is for convenience in case I need to change the heater. You can have a connection box with screwed cover but in convenient for me. I added a 20A switch (the one with light indicator) at normal switch height at bathroom entrance door. This will enable me to switch on and off the main supply to heater, though not necessary.

The waterproof cover as shown on link is okay but I would say it is unnecessary in my case. My socket is high enough to avoid water splash during showering. You also do not want your wet fingers to switch on and off the heater smile.gif

I would not worry about steam on 3-pin plug. The plug is warm during operation and the mist go away before it cools down after usage, thus will not have condensation issue on the plug.

You have to open up and see if it have problem or not. If it not kaboom, doesn't mean it have no problem.
Here is 1 of my experience. This plug extension is hide behind the cupboard. Extension mainly use for hairdryer, clock and occasionally vacuum and steamer. Running fine for over 15yrs this extension.

Have some electrical problem in my home lately and 1 day decide to upgrade some old extension and wiring. When open up the plug, saw this burning, corrode and almost break connection. This probably cause by the vacuum or the steamer running at high wattage. Which I didn't notice it cause the plug hide behind the cupboard. And might catch fire if I use it longer time.

This is the wall socket for the induction cooker. Everything look fine from outside. But once you ply open inside and see, the contact is full of carbon and the surrounding plastic melt. I have post this before and explain in another thread.

No question about that. Over time, even in dry area, the copper inside your plug and socket will corrode. It even worse due to high humidity in Malaysia. The only thing I want to comment is that the plug should not melt like that. I believe it is not even approved material even in Malaysia. Not TNB nor SIRIM approved type. This type of material will cause fire. With SIRIM approved plug, you can probably see trace of black carbon seeps through join gap but it will not melt or even burn if torched.

I suggest you replace that king of socket or plug material smile.gif

It looks like the brown live wire was not long enough and was twist joined and taped over. This was not professionally done. Something electrician should have not done. If require wire joining, make sure to use a wire joiner with screw. Use ceramic type to avoid plastic melt and fire.

When the point of contact get corroded, the resistance value builds up. So, the contact points works like mini heater. This also happens in the wall switches as well and 3-pin plug switches, not only at the point where you connect wire. You can open up and check the sockets, plugs and switches fro time to time but the most important thing is to have those sockets, plugs and switches from reputable brand and approved by SIRIM to avoid fire. wink.gif

Hi,

if i installed

1) Pump

and

2) heater tank https://www.seers-online.com/commercial/see...ank-single-tank

Does it mean i dont need to buy water heater? sorry for my noob question.

Unless you want to double heat the water laugh.gif

Yes, already has hot water supply and then you need to have mixer tap to mix the hot and cold water to the temperature you like. Cannot shower direct from hot water, right?

Anyway, most pvc pipe can only run cold water. Normally you need to run copper pipe for hot water.... so it meant some renovation unless your house already has pipe laid in for hot water.

I'm using Joven the 35L and the heater element shorted after more than 10 years. This is normal since the copper is always submerged in the water. The point near the socket looked like a bit corroded and that I suspected causing the MCB to trip.

The shop where I bought the unit told me that normally people just change to new unit instead. I asked if they sell replacement heater. They said yes and and it cost only RM90. A new similar since would be more than RM500 if not mistaken.

There are 2 type. One is straight with single bend and the other one is shorter where the heater element is folded to make is shorter. I chose the longer straight one so the heat location is more spread. Original one is long also.

Tried to change myself but the space is tight and the locking hex nut size to very wide. If use bigger wrench also cannot slide in that tight space. I asked the shop if they have any contact fro person who is doing heater installation. They have.

The guy said he devised his own tool for this specific purpose thumbsup.gif Replacement took about half an hour and now it has been probably 5 years already.

The heater is still okay on top of the ceiling and no corrosion or leak.

your model is jh35? vertical or horizontal?

last for 10years more consider very good ...use for so long still no leaking?
my heating element die after 1years plus ....change heating element cost me rm250...the price for heating element less than rm100

so you managed to change the heating element by yourself?
steps can teach ?
that's great ....
thanks ...

Mine is Horizontal. Cannot remember the model but 35L one and only one JH for horizontal, right?

Like I said, I cannot replace myself because no proper tool. It is not difficult. Just remove the wire and turn the heat element out. The element base has screw thread.

As I mentioned, big opening spanner is bulky and space is tight. You cannot unscrew from side. No space. Blocked by wiring cover etc. You need something like big hex spanner that can be inserted straight from behind the heater base. The heater element should be around Rm100 or RM120 the most. If RM250 for everything, then the next fault is worth replacing the whole unit laugh.gif

I remembered spending Rm120 for everything, meaning the guy only took RM300 ( hmm.gif ). I bought the element RM90 myself and was on the ceiling helping the guy when needed like handing him towel to wipe water laugh.gif

I have removed all the water through bleeding pipe. The installed said no need to put small bleeding pipe there but I insisted and it drip water into bathroom. Luckily I insisted. Still there was a lot of water flowed out after removing the heater.

how the smart water heater switch look like ?

Just use smart switch to replace the normal 20A wall switch and program using apps in phone I guess. Nowadays, there are a number of product available. last time no 20A switch

From your experience, would you still recommend Joven?
*
If you ask if I have any preferred brand, I'd say no based on my electrical knowledge.

For me, water heater is very simple device just like water heater. Any known name will be just fine. The tank is just a stainless steel inner tank with insulator. Heater element is pretty standard.

I'm not sure why my heater last longer and why others shorter. Maybe it is pure luck. I bought Joven since it is known brand and it is the only brand that is available in that shop laugh.gif

I'm a bit wary of using unpopular brand. Scared hard to get spare parts if something goes wrong. Like unpopular car brands in Malaysia  sweat.gif

Yes. That is the main point to consider when buying appliances. You want to be able to get service easily. If possible the brand nearest to your house. smile.gif

Already out of warranty? Check if warranty is only on specific component like only for heater element.

I checked that the 5 years is on DC pump and Heater only. General warranty is only 1 year.

The rheostat is easy to change but whether it is easy to find the similar one. The 3rd party repair shop can do this. I have no idea on charge.

Bought mid 2020. Not sure if rheostat considered heater or general warranty. I see. I will send to Toshiba SC then. But they only work on weekdays. Maybe they can come to the house and remove it from the wall. The technician which installed it did it very firm-now stuck to wall.

I'd say it is under general warranty if the rheostat (old term for which nowadays called potentiometer or variable resistor). I think min basic charge is RM60. Maybe the whose repair charge is just over RM100 hmm.gif
