Just some opinion, if you really do have high price elasticity of gold price, then I would suggest you learn the past performance of the top's gold investor like John Paulson. He converted almost all of his billions of fortune into gold last September, losses about 10%, continue to remain upbeat and have faith in the precious metals for the coming years.

Or if you really worried about the price volatility of precious metals, then gold investment is not your playground. Find other type of saving/investment like fixed deposit or ASB.

open a gold investment account from either maybank or public bank... then you can start buy your first 10gram GOLD !!!
*
This is not a recommended banks to invest in gold saving due to their respective high spread rate (Between 4 - 5%). For the best choice for gold investment account, invest in UOB bank due to:-

i. The lowest spread rate (only 1.15%)
ii. The highest selling price as compared to other gold investment account
iii. The lowest buying price as compared to other gold investment account

The downside for UOB Bank is that one need to make an initial investment of 20g (about RM 3300++) to starts their gold investment, and one can purchase and sell their gold in 5g, 10g, 15g, etc. Other than that, UOB is the best choice!

Hi BL!Tz^_^,

Welcome to the world of gold investment. Let's hope that in the future, we can be another "John Paulson" - The legendary gold investor rclxms.gif

If I were you, I will top-up for another 1k++ (total of 3k+++) to open a gold saving investment account in UOB Bank. UOB Bank is the best choice due to their lowest spread rate as compared to other banks.

With RM 20,000k as a modal, I've made a profit of RM 520 in less than two months (Jan - Mar '12) from their account. Now I have sell all of my gold saving unit, used that money to purchase UOB Kangaroo Nugget, and pawn it at Ar-Rahnu to leverage on their money to purchase more physical gold! Sweet! icon_idea.gif

gold coins maybe.
any recommended and trustworthy suppliers?
i did the research and found out that eagles are not 9999, then
why there r still so many people buying it?
how about maple?
or there's any better choice?
with high liquidity and low premium maybe...
(or in my dreams only? lol)
*
Welcome Leonakuan,

For trustworthy supplier, you can purchase the psychical gold from either UOB Bank and Maybank.

UOB Bank = Canadian Mapple Leaf, Australian Kangaroo Nugget (Recommended), Singapore Lion

Maybank = Kijang Emas (Currently Out of Stock)

Any reason why is Australian Kangaroo Nugget is recommended compared to Maple Leaf or others?

I do agree that UOB offer the best deal in terms of the spread, but let's hope they allow online trading in the near future, it's much more convenient, eg Public Bank.
*
Hi 7CY,

Very good question. Apologize as I didn't mention about this earlier. With Kangaroo Nugget, one can leverage money by pawning the gold coin at Ar-Rahnu Bank Rakyat and we can even sell back the pawned gold coin to UOB Bank.

With Maple leaf, one can pawn the gold coin at Ar-Rahnu but UOB won't accept the gold coin if we intended to sell back the pawned gold to the bank. This is because the cap of the Mapple Leaf was unsealed during the pawning process.

In terms of international value, Mapple leaf is of course better as compared to Kangaroo Nugget. thumbup.gif

I agree with you that UOB have to differentiate their value proposition to us by offering an online trading in the near future. I have sent an email to their Officer requesting UOB to establish an online trading platform ala Public Bank. Based from my recent transaction with officer in UOB KL Main, they told me that UOB Bank has considered exploring online trading as their next platform for gold transaction.

Hi Izzudrecoba,

which means that Australian Kangaroo Nugget is recommended if we plan to pawn it at Ar Rahnu or any other pawns and then resell.

If not, Maple Leaf is still preferred in recognition and value wise. Of course, it has to be remained sealed to maintain its value.

Have you purchase and sell back gold coins from UOB?

Is the process simple? Any terms and conditions?

I plan to convert some of my gold from PBB to UOB bullion products.

Thanks
*
Hi 7CY,

Absolutely. I have embarked on gold pawning at ar-Rahnu using my several UOB kangaroo nugget gold coins beginning 29 Feb 2012. Have yet to collect back the gold coins as I plan to extend the pawn duration from 6 months to 1 year (because of the current bearish trend of the precious metal market).

For sell back the gold coins, you have to pay the 65% value of ringgits loaned and "upah simpan" to ar-Rahnu before you can obtain your gold coin from ar-rahnu, and then you sell the gold coin to any UOB Bank branches.

If you buy the gold coin but didn't pawn it, you can sell the gold coin to any UOB Bank branches too. Please make sure that your gold bullion didnt scratch, dented, or unsealed, as the Bank will not buy the gold from you. (You have to sell to other gold shop like through auction, public dinar, friends, relatives).

Take your time to read the thread below carefully before you decided to pawn your UOB kangaroo nugget coins icon_rolleyes.gif

actually i was thinking to open public or maybank gold investment account since it has online service.
for the UOB, i think i will have a look first.... hmm.gif
one noob question here, why low spread rate is better? blush.gif
since UOB don't have online trading service, so every time we must go to bank to do the trading?

It’s crucial to understand how does spread works before we start investing in precious metals. Spread in short means the margin between the buying and selling price. The formula is as followed:

Formula for spread:

(Sell Price – Buyback Price)/Buyback Price X 100 = Spread %

Example of calculation:

1 oz of Kijang Emas selling at RM5,060, buying back at RM4,864.

Apply the formula and therefore it’s: (5060 – 4864)/ 4864 x 100 = 4.03%

With that, the spread for 1 oz of Kijang Emas is 4.03%.

The higher the spread translate to the more ‘expensive’ it is to trade with the vendor while the lower the spread is the vice versa. Many of the time, we won’t feel the pinch immediately after purchasing our bullion. This is because most of the time, we don’t sell it back on that day same day that we bought. But if you happened to do that for whatever reason, you will immediately lose out the spread. This is where the vendor makes their profits.

In answering questions about funding of the IMF for the financial needs in the Eurozone, the U.S. Treasury Secretary said the chance of a default by the IMF, or any of its borrowers of money provided by the U.S. is extremely low. Why? Because the loans are all "backed by IMF gold"!

Gold is the only money immune from political spin and capable of protecting nations or individuals from financial ruin, a fact simple enough that even central bankers understand- including our Treasury Secretary Geithner.

if let say i bought 20g at the price of rm160/g, now the selling price is rm190/g, i want to sell it, normally is let go whole 20g or let go part of it?
*
Hi blitz, you are advised to sell only the "profit" of the gold, as the buyback will be high in tandem with the increasing gold price. In your case, you made profit of rm600 (rm 30 x 20 g). If for uob, u have to sell minimum of 5 gram, which is roughly around rm830 - rm 850. Wait for u to make nett profit around that figure then u can sell 5gram.

Well said. If the republican under Mitt Rommney win the election, expect gold to rise further.

The reason? Upcoming war between U.S. and Russia. Mitt Rommney said several times that the biggest enemy of The US is Russia (Even tough the rest of the world know that the real enemy of the US is their own excessive debt). rclxms.gif

Either UOB Canadian Maple Leaf or UOB Kangaroo Nugget. They have the lowest spread rate among physical gold of only 3%. The downside is that both are hot stuff and not easily available at UOB Bank branches.

QUOTE(learn2earn8 @ Apr 18 2012, 10:34 PM)
Gold Heading to $700: Author Sees “Impending Collapse”

http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticke...-124847501.html

For the past decade, gold has been an incredible investment, rising from under $300 per ounce to as high as $1,900 per ounce before retreating to around $1,650 in recent trading.

For the bulls, gold's recent drop is nothing more than a temporary setback on its inexorable march toward $2,000 and beyond. The case for gold rests primarily on factors familiar to anyone who's even remotely familiar with the metal: easy money from central banks around the world and rising demand from emerging economies, notably China and India. (See: Easy Money + Low Rates = Gold at $2000 by Year End)

But all good things must come to an end and Yoni Jacobs, chief investment strategist at Chart Prophet, believes gold's best days are behind it. In fact, Yoni believes there's a bubble in precious metals that's about to collapse as detailed in his book, Gold Bubble: Profiting from Gold's Impending Collapse.

While tipping his hat to the bullish arguments and sympathetic to reasons why people own gold, Jacobs says the metal's inability to rally despite Europe's ongoing crisis and renewed tensions in the Middle East are negative signs. "The froth is coming off," he says.

Technically, the strategist cites heavy volume during gold's sell-off last September and the negative divergence between gold and gold miners as warning signs. In the past six months, the Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX) is down 20% while the Gold ETF (GLD) is essentially flat.

Furthermore, gold is vulnerable to the global economic slowdown, he says, noting China just reported its slowest quarter in three years.

"If we have a recession or slowing global growth then all assets fall -- it's a deflationary period," Jacobs says. "Even though a lot of people are expecting inflation, if we enter recession that means the price of assets falls. Gold will fall together with the rest of commodities."

Finally, Jacobs cites "over-speculation" in gold, its "parabolic increase" in recent years, the "mass publicity" the metal has received, and the extreme emotions of its advocates as signs of it being in bubble territory.

Based on historical trends and technical patterns, Jacobs predicts gold will fall below the key $1,000 per ounce level on its way to the $700 area. He recommends shorting the GLD or GDX or buying out-of-the-money puts on gold as a way to profit from gold's demise.

Jacobs is clearly out on a limb on this prediction and there's a good chance he'll be proven wrong.

But hedging your positions and managing downside risks is always a good idea, especially with an investment that's appreciated as much as gold.

Gold Heading to $700 in the future is like saying Lionel Messi can become the President of Argentina cool2.gif

It won't happen in the due course due to the gargantual debt from the developed countries and the scarcity resources to produce the precious metal, mate.

Whoever produce this article surely didn't invest their saving portion into the hard asset portfolio. So they justify their decision by denying the only asset investment that beats all other investment for the past 10 years. Pure Wall Street gangster blush.gif
