at the risk of sounding controversial, I'm gonna venture and say it. COD is for casual gamers and BF3 is for the more serious gamer.

why? because COD is an example of an oversimplified FPS, where everyone can just pick up a gun and shoot. in a straight line. no bullet drop, no nothing. just aim the dot sight and pew pew pew, arcade style. a lot of COD acolytes enjoy the game because they're lazy or unable to learn any other style of play. so they choose the easiest route. e.g. "I am good at this so I'd stick at it".

as for BF, there are a lot of consideration to be taken into account. real life physics to be learnt, and so forth. it forces the player to research on their weapons, to train using equipment. one can say that the truly passionate would go for BF. as such, BF fans tend to be more enthusiastic AND know what they're talking about as opposed to sheep fanboyism.

COD = justin bieber.

BF = Oasis.
