Hello shawnsean,How does it compare in terms of Asus RT-N18U especially in terms of range/coverage? Asus has built-in bit torrent client and easy to setup There is no BT client built it, sorry that I am unable to comment on the other brand... Anyway MikroTik is well known with its datacenter grade performance and feature rich in networking. Cloud Computer |

QUOTE(Sillymexican @ Mar 17 2016, 01:50 AM) Hi sir. I am interested to know what firewall configuration if any is provided on these boards. As default they are not loaded with any firewall. Hello Sillymexican,Thanks Yes, there is no configuration on the Firewall on brand new units, except some very very basic rules. If you need some more examples, you can read them: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Basic_univer...firewall_script http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Category:Firewall Thanks. |

QUOTE(Sillymexican @ Mar 19 2016, 11:12 AM) Ok. So are you informing your customers who purchase your unit as a replacement to the dlink that tm provide that there is absolutely no firewall protection for their home network? Hello Sillymexican,Whilst mikrotik is by far a superior product to the dlink it needs to be configured correctly. Without a good configuration Peoples networks and personal information is exposed and they were better off using the DLink. Sorry but I think it's wrong to advertise a product as a suitable replacement when it is not. MikroTik is a well trusted router brand among Malaysian UniFi user for some years until now, it doesn't gain the name from any of our marketing works or any other ads, but comes from words of mouth of the true users, many of them are generously sharing their knowledges and experiences on the forum, you can learn from them at https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2040480. I am sure they think MikroTik is one of the best UniFi replacement router. Cloud Computer This post has been edited by CloudComputer: Mar 21 2016, 11:04 AM |

QUOTE(Deslack @ Mar 20 2016, 09:04 AM) Stop being an ass here, what makes you think a D-Link is configured better out of the box than that of MikroTik's? Hello Deslack,Thanks for your clarification, bro. Users who really put their hand on the stock router know this well. This post has been edited by CloudComputer: Mar 21 2016, 11:07 AM |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Mar 23 2016, 03:55 AM) I'm afraid Sillymexican is correct. There are only very basic firewall filters in a default ROS config and one very important one that doesn't do anything. Bro I know you want to promote your group and publicize your post, but please don't do it here, there are many other MikroTik related posts in the right subforums.Anyway here's a real-life example. Just last week, I bought an RB951Ui-2HnD from Viewnet, Low Yat Plaza. Unifi was setup on that and within 24hrs, someone is using it in a DNS amplification attack. That was my bad and easily fixed. For the average user, they won't even know that their router has been compromised. The RB951 is fast enough to handle normal browsing needs and serve up the DDOS simultaneously. All this could have been prevented by that one important default filter that I mentioned above but in ROS default config, it's set to drop packets to the input chain from ether1. So that's one way that Asus, TP-Link, DLink, etc... are better than Mikrotik but of course, I always recommend Mikrotik. I love the router and I could always use a few more zombies when I need to DNS amp someone. PS: I wrote about DNS Amp Attacks last month https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3860279 See above. Thanks for your sharing anyway. This post has been edited by CloudComputer: Mar 23 2016, 11:03 AM |

I think you guys are saying all the stuffs you bought from Low Yat should be configured for you well even before you open it up. I don't think you can have it for most of the products, and this is included MikroTik products, the same for most of other networking products.

QUOTE(Sillymexican @ Mar 23 2016, 12:16 PM) Err no just in the very basic first instance. Bro are you from Landasan? You can have a post selling also, please do not mess with us here in our post, we won't do it to your post either.1. Dlink has configured firewall out of box 2. Mikrotik has no firewall out of box. Can understand or not? Mikrotik had potential to be a great firewall (I know I configure them) but out of the box it has no firewall configuration at all. Not promoting anything. Just sharing relevant knowledge. Your price same as landasan (importer) and got no benifit. So better just buy from importer who already offer very good support and also understand how the routers actually work! And if you go there and ask for discount sure to get! Thank you. |
