No need to update your firmware to root. You just select Chainfire KJ6 CWM version ( for Msian sets ) or KJ4 ( AP sets)

A user has reported it did not work on his SGS II. It definitely cannot work on my blackberry phone 9860, ipad2 and blackberry playbook . NO response at all even to just select apps to launch

Samsung has officially say it will get ICS in 2012 . When - nobody know yet ; hopefully by Q1

You just need to run step 1.2 only. After you run the "not rooted yet .bat" , phone will reset and your phone will be rooted with CWM installed.
Download and Use the right kernel KJ6 ( post #4 )

You need not flash new kernel or firmware - this is for later purposes if you need to upgrade

market enabler always work on all my androids
if using older version hold down your selection and from popup menu select fake provider
the latest version is even more user friendly. just tap on telco to select
i always select tmobile usa

titanium just backup your apps n data
a nandroid backup will backup whole phone including its rom. in case of phone unable to boot restoring it from recovery will bring your phone back to life at its last backup status. doing a nandroid backup is important if you change rom

Root will not delete any stuffs. Your phone will be as before root

I just updated my CWM to his KK1 version. I lost his CWM app after flash HK rom KK1 and was temporary using back netchip CWM. Chainfire CWM allows you to do a nandroid backup onto either internal SD card or external SD card while netchip CWM only allow backup on internal Sdcard

No need any special settings. I can call UK number, China , HK numbers, and my contacts list all phone numbers are listed as +country code-number. No problem with my blackberry too as uses same contacts database -

YES warranty is voided officially
If you are worry about this, DON'T root
But based on my personal experience plus many others too, the Samsung Service center never bother ; I have send in units rooted/flashed with cook rom and in all occasions ( at KL Plaza Berjaya and Spore Plaza Spura ) is done FOC. Infact only a few days ago, a SGS II user got his motherboard replace FOC after he screwed up rooting/flashing - he got a FOC job replaced at JB service center
But be mentally prepared the service center will void warranty

I already ordered it few days ago

I am on this. It is very lean. There is a separate zip to install mainly the Samsung apps about 60+
Overall it seems smoother
It comes parroted and will wipe your phone
Just use titanium backup to restore back your stuffs

I recieved this PM from a SGS II user ( joshuawang) who has proposed following fix for those whose phone has problem being detected by PC> Try it for those who is still facing undetectable issues with PC:

Resolution

1. Unplug the USB cable

2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. The good mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.

3. Plug the USB cable.

Note:

* Repair USB connection for any Samsung Android phone

You can do it manually ( follow stringfellow recommendation) or You can sort all apps in alphabetical order using free app : Appzorter Lite
But you will lose all your dock icons except for Applications

True - it indeed reboot much faster. But most I like is the addition of Data toggle at pulldown taskbar

You cannot compare it with SGS 1. I always say the SGS 1 is the worst android phone I have used - it is still at the right bottom of my list !!! Even my modded HTC HD2 on Android trumps it flat

Yes model i9000. Even with change to ext4 file system cum voodoo lag fix - it is still terrible laggy

Just install it back from the zip file. That is what I did

No the zip file that come with the rom download has about 60+ missing apps apk
